You must be insane, considering that Vexing Devil is better then Eidolon of the Great Revel. Eidolon locks up games for your opponent, it really screws most of modern decks. Every Tier 1 and 2 deck, uses a bunch of spells that cost between 1-3 mana. Your life shouldn't be a concern as a burn player, Eidolon is a bit tricky to play, but once you sequence him right with another one, its game over for your opponent.
I haven't said Vexing Devil is better than Eidolon of the Great Revel. Sure thing, Eidolon is better in most the situation. But, I'm feeling also that most of the decks I'm facing have found a way around it, thus making it less effective.
Burn isn't Tier 1? Since when? I am sorry, but I have the roughest meta for burn (White Decks playing Soul Sister and Martyr Proc with control decks in the UW and its variants that play both Leyline of Sanctity and Kor Firewalker along with counter spells), but I still choose to play burn because I have a higher number in the W column than the L column. Do I have my days where I 0-2 drop? Sure. Even pros do.
The point I am trying to make is this, if you think that burn isn't Tier 1 anymore you are mistaken, but with that said if you don't like playing the deck and truly aren't having fun then try something else. To me the whole point of MTG is to have an enjoyable experience with at least 1 other person, and chuck up loses to either learning experiences (misplays, random interactions and situations ect...) or consequences of the game (bad draws, mana short or flooded ect...).
True that: Burn is a Tier 1 deck. Is it the best one at the moment in my opinion? No. Will it win a GP? Maybe. But for sure, everyone is prepared to face Burn because it is one the most played deck and one of the top deck also.
I dont know if anyone has mentioned these cards yet but I'm testing Bramblewood Paragon which gives most of the deck trample and 2 Talara's Battalion which seem to never be a problem and plenty of power. I'm also trying Mirri, Cat Warrior but I'm worried she is too slow for the benefit of damage and a blocker. I like Oran-Rief, the Vastwood a little more than the ape making avatar a ridiculous late drop and everything else stronger when possible.
Out of all these cards, Talara's Battalion seems to me the only one that could see play, as a 2 of in SB.
I am the only one not very found of Atarka's Command? I'm more conservative in regards to adding new cards to a successful build such as RWg Burn. I have Atarka's Command, but only in my sideboard. Having more than 4 Skullcrack feels like overkill to me.
I saw that the two Burn decks that ran at SCG (John King and Anthony Lowry) never had Atarka's Command in mainboard. Only Lowry had it SB.
I'm new to the thread, but I've been playing Stompy for almost a year now. Here's what I'm playing at the moment. I'm doing fine with it considering my meta game!
I've been playing since one of my friend introduced me to the game last Summer : I began playing Standard but moved toward Modern after a couple of months. I'm now willing to play more competitively here in Montreal.
2-1 against BW Tokens.
2-1 against Mono Green Devotion.
1-2 against Merfolk.
2-0 against UB Mill.
I had a rough time dealing with Merfolk. Not sure about what I could have done against Cursecatcher and Mutavault also.

And I'm glad to see that Vexing Devil is back. Honnestly, I've never been a huge fan of Eidolon of the Great Revel (though I'm running it).
