For everyone that thinks this is good, you do realize these are pretty easy to reseal...
For the extra slow, people are going to open packs look at the cards reseal them and sell them on ebay just like people used to look through the pack and see what was in it prior to ice age. This was the one of dumbest thing that they ever could have done
^ This.
And the excess glue on the outside of the packs will make them unusable as a build your own draft cube card holder.
You can reseal any booster pack these are just easier. And I doubt people will buy single packs from a stranger that seems sketchy because of this. Don't get me wrong it's easy to reseal and I agree. But modern masters isn't really s set were single packs are sitting on shelves. Most stores aren't even selling any.
You open the packs yourself, how is anyone going to know? Lol. I've been to many sealed PTQ's and GP's and judges aren't looking over your shoulder.
I'll admit I did this before with s foil Jace the mind sculptor. I am not proud of it. But the point is no you want get caught if you're not obvious. But it is a question of ethics. If I open a foil tarm I will drop rather then cheat again. Well it's not cheating. More along the lines of stealing. It's your card if you drop but not yours if you don't. I know it's really tempting and I have an issue with the urge to do this. I just ask my friends to hold me accountable. It's the only way to overcome it. The urge to chest and get value is strong. I've never cheated in gameplay. But stealing is worse then cheating in gameplay and I still feel guilty years later. This was at a PTQ btw.
I am a little confused I recycled my plastic wrappers. They aren't as biodegradable as the new ones but I still put plastic in the recycle bin. Or am I the only one that did this? Here in California recycling is huge. Don't ruin the environment.
I bought a box of Modern Masters 2015 for $200 with the intent of either drafting with friends and keeping the cards or trading it for singles. I'm leaning towards trading it. Obviously the reason is that I'm a big person on trading up. I bought it for $200 is t unrealistic that I would expect to get $250-260 in singles. That's how much you will be able to purchase it for in a week or two after boxes become more scarce and my LGS' all around are not selling any so for a player at my store they have no way of obtaining one except through a major retailer online if try have any left or eBay.
Still thinking about just drafting it and hoping I don't get a comet storm as one of my 3 mythics but I feel I could definitely get huge value trading for singles I need. What do you guys think? Trade for some value if there are people there who have singles I need. Or just go with it and have a good time.
A lot assuming they don't have a bounceland, Amulet, Summer Bloom, and Titan. It still isn't enough though, as the last Modern PT with Amulet in the finals had the Amulet player playing on camera against one and still managed to win.
In fairness, I'm pretty sure he searched the top 4 cards of his library and just got really, REALLY lucky in finding what he needed. If that hadn't happened, he probably would have lost. So I'd say that in the average game, Mindcensor is still very strong against Amulet.
Off topic a little. No reprints for amulet bloom or scape shift. Either reprinting in origins because they won't effect standard to much or I smell a ban coming. Wizards hates turn 0-1 wins.
I'm confident enough in my abilities as a player that I'd play it out. You can always get another Tarmogoyf (albeit at a hefty price), but the opportunity to play at a GP is much rarer and much more valuable (I'd be paying over $500 for the plane ticket alone), and I'd love the experience of playing in a major event. Plus, while I don't believe that I'm a godlike pro or anything, I think that there's a chance I could day 2, which would be even better.
For me there are always GPs within driving distance. I think I could place high maybe top 64 no problem but I don't think I would necessarily get top 16 or 8. 16 is like $200-400 in prizes depending on the size. At that point is take my $200 pool and drop and do drafts etc. the promo card and play mat giving me $250 for my $75 investment. If it's farm and cryptic command then heck yeah I'd drop.
I remember playing in ravnica buying tournament packs for $10 that came with great cards. Lol I remember throwing around dark confidants like they were nothing and jittes were super expensive at $15. And my crappy noble hierarchs I got rid of at $14 a piece. Those were the good days before things cost a fortune.
Basically most people complain about decks being to good and "unfun". Since I am just playing strangers to find a play group should I just play the less powered deck so I won't win as much to get into a play group or just play a different deck since I know there is a lot of hate towards that deck since it can be bonkers when fully powered.
Thanks for expressing so well why I hate Commander.
As far as decks that are tough to hate out, it seems like Jund and Junk are pretty good at this. Both just play good cards in the colors and aren't super linear or even devoted all that much to one card type.
Yeah I have some uber cards in my collection like berserk and Gaea's Cradle. I love 100 card singleton the original that you had to play 5 colors and everyone was playing with dual lands and chaos orbs super competitive. But I'm willing to take it easy on EDH players because it's casual and I'm just looking to have a funny game or too. No prizes or anything so why stress.
A card being price x makes it worth price x in the market, but it doesn't make it worth price x for everyone. That price x represents where supply and demand meet, but we have no idea what your demand is. We have no clue how much money you make, how much money you've saved, what your bills are, how much you value Tarmogoyf relative to other cards, how much you value magic as a hobby, or any of the other ten million factors involved in giving an answer. In the end, only you can answer this question. No one here has as much information as you do, so no one will have a better answer than you do. Will you buy it?
Yes - it is worth it.
No - it is not worth it.
The only accurate answer is through revealed preference.

Perfectly stated. It's worth that much because some people have the funds to keep buying magic regardless. It seems it's reached its peak of those people with disposable income have. Now everyone else hopes the reprint will save them some money.
So I'm thinking about getting into edh shortly after modern. My budget will be drained after I buy twin so I was going to buy the tolarian academy's krenko mob boss list with a couple upgrades like blood moon. After listening to podcast about edh for a while I listened to episode of etiquette. Basically most people complain about decks being to good and "unfun". Since I am just playing strangers to find a play group should I just play the less powered deck so I won't win as much to get into a play group or just play a different deck since I know there is a lot of hate towards that deck since it can be bonkers when fully powered.
I mean, I normally play some set up of Green/White/Black. But is he really worth the price.
If I see a price drop to $125 like I'm hoping because this set is bigger then people actually know I'm buying a play set hands down because it will just go back up. It's just a vanilla creature that will never get banned that has uber value. It's a virtual 2 for 1 since it's the only creature that comes into play as 4/5 or 9/10 for 2 mana.
I'm mostly surprised to see how low RG Tron's win percentage is.
I play tron online an I have a very difficult time winning with it more then 2-2 sometimes even though I know the deck inside and out. Not in modern in pauper but I feel it's the same across all formats. Always performs and never the star.
I laughed, actually laughed when my store said that MM2 Drafts were $40. I then changed the subject because I didn't want to potentially undermine a store that I like and went back to browsing for singles. The following 10 minutes had no less than 7 groups of people (most were 2-3, one loner, one was like 4 people) show up excited about MM2 until they were told asked how much the draft would be. It won't completely bomb here because there are people with money that want to play, but it won't be a spectacular turnout.
A 33% premium to MSRP just to draft seems expensive unless prizes are MM2 packs, and a good number of them to boot.
It depends on their prize support. Maybe they offer more. My store does $30 drafts right now for sign ups and they support 5 packs of MM15. maybe your store does 8-10 packs
Nice PayPal account. I can show you my savings with $72k in it if you like. I'll take a screenshot of the number for ya. And I would win the bet and take your money so this is a binding contract if you agree. You may want to rethink your arrogance.
Please email me and we can set up a legal binding bet on this Mr. $10 under MSRP.
Haven't posted this here lately but here ya go if anybody is interested.
Wow, nearly a million dollars worth of MM2 boxes have been moved on ebay already? That's crazy.
well, keep in mind that there is no guarantee that some of the merchandise on ebay are not boxes that have been bought and are now being flipped. But yeah, a good bit of revenue is moving right now.
I think the trend is on track as well. Dropped back below MSRP for a second due to disappointment but will be back at MSRP maybe $250 a box by the time release happens and then on out it will slowly rise. Very slow at first but a ton of boxes will be drafted and sealed so there won't be much left over. After week one my LGS will burn through 40% of their inventory just for tournaments and that's including the bonus shipment they got of 2 extra cases.
Eh, I think prices will settle in the 225-230 region for release... release is when maximum quantity is really available, so prices should slide back a little bit. I do think boxes will hang around $250 towards the end of June and into July, then slowly creeping up, but I don't think we see $300/box for this set until next Spring at the absolute earliest.
Not a chance try won't be below MSRP. not even close. I would bet you a black lotus on that. I'm looking at my LGS's order sheets and those for the region and they are not that much bigger then MM1. Only about 15% larger. You also forget these are the largest GPs to ever take place going beyond 5000 people per GP. Further
Lee eBay prices always trend about $10 less then what the product cost due to high fraud and personal selling on eBay. You have people selling one ofs and that's it that lower the cost co pared to where the actual quantity lies which is with the LGS and major stores like star city games who will also be cracking about 10000 packs for singles and to drive prices up. Singles will fall but not a chance the sealed product will fall. Within two months I predict it stabling at $260-275 a box and then by this time next year they should be $300. Granted not as high as MM1 but don't underestimated the power of the addiction of drafters.
