I frequent starcitygames not for there cards but there prices as reference. I noticed the recent selling of bulk lots, that was kind of a red flag to me in a series of red flags i am observing in my own opinion.
it is leading me to this belief and question:
Does anyone else feel like they are liquidating there whole paper magic inventory?
up until 2020 i usually bought from them but they have been usually averaging 0 inventory for what i would call good commander cards and legacy cards.
Even cards for modern and historic seem to be in very low to 0 inventory on their website.
until I saw their recent bulk sales i was thinking to myself they must be "quietly trying to reduce paper inventory"
I literally moved onto tcgplayer to buy singles cause Starcity is so low on anything worthwhile.
Does anyone else feel they are observing the same thing with Star city games?
so far I haven't see any of these blue trons deck surfacing in recent results but I am wondering is urza's saga a land worth including or a solid pass?
4 of them i could see altering the usual structure of the deck, but this is an era with force of negation and Subtlety so maybe making construct tokens can go with the strategy of assembling tron.
Also Rishadan Dockhand while he is no counter spell, he feels very disruptive to most decks, possibly going along with the strategy of buying time to assemble tron???
clearly the site was hit with a double wammy 2019-now, covid killing tournaments and online magic getting people to talk decks less here and some where else.
Did majority go somewhere? a Discord perhaps?
20 years of forum crawling on the internet taught me usually bulk of a community goes to another website or service.
Now..I played devotion a looooooong time, and the hardest matches I had (and often lost) were the ones where the opponent targeted my mana dorks, slowing my ramp down, giving him the time to set up his board.
Cards like these (again together with bolts and such) will simply wreck my opening...and destroy a good hand I kept with maybe 2 dorks for a T3 combo out, or big guy, leaving me with like....2-3 mana, a 6-cmc in hand and nothing on the board
So, I ask you...is my view on the current situation correct? Or maybe there's a light at the end of the tunnel I'm not seeing?
Oh, and making a devotion with enchantments could be a good idea but...the problem of mana dorks still remain, and if we rely too much on enchantments I can see game 2 and 3 with the opponent doing target practice with us....kill dork, kill enchant, kill dork, kill enchant
Ya I realized recently darts can be a serious issue, I was running a list with too many 1cc mana dorks and Lukka, Coppercoat Outcast to combo into emrakul. I realize i need my 3cc and 4cc creatures to midrange through those match ups that bring a lot of bolt and ping
I am still looking for ways to play emrakul in my lists
it might be a good meta to dust off and use those steel leaf champions as that lets you walk right over monastery swiftspear and dragon channeler.
maybe wall of blossoms too
I wanted to let everyone here know that we have been having a discussion on Discord as well. If anyone would like an invite; please feel free to request.
Our recent discussion has been about post-MH2 builds and the new man-land from forgotten realms being an addition to the deck.
A lot of devotion decks have the splash for moon and kessig, I'm thinking it also warrents replacing oath of nissa possibly with faithless looting.
such a swap has a lot of appeal to me these days cause of nitch situations like that where you can't get you summoner's pact. further more filtering away late game dead draws such as land or extra mana dorks.
Hey guys I wanted to leave my latest Devotion list here, Its kind of a Hybrid strategy between Ponza and Devotion. Has a tool box using eldritch evolution. So far i've really liked its performance.
for the lands to produce the extra mana, do they check for subtype or card name?
its confusing because the cards have the same words in both spots. so i'm not sure which part of the cards the mana ability is looking for on the battlefield to have tron turned on.
question in phyrexian scriptures or any of the other sagas. is says "sacrifice after III". does this implay after the 3rd counter is added? or after the resolution of the III ability?
I'm wondering if I can put the 3rd counter on sacrifice vampire hexmage or anything that removes counters in response to the III ability triggering and set the saga back without having to sacrifice the saga itself, while still getting the III ability at the same time....
Hey if you some how get the Sorcerous spyglass etb to trigger twice where you'd name two different cards, will the spyglass shut down two named card at once?

theres a discord?
I've used it a few time in the past for getting my traverse the ulvenwald delirium.

filler cards like mishra's bauble and manamorphose seem to make a difference if you wanna keep the list tight and win that turn. doing so might cust makeshift mannequin for the through the breach seeing as you want hulk to die at end of turn.
grixis does have pieces of the puzzle, that does provide really good digging. I just wish it wasn't 5 mana.
Nezahal, Primal Tide is interesting, takes a lot of cards to pull it off.
Torgaar, Famine Incarnate seems interesting, it sets up right Hidetsugu's Second Rite, while reanimating Torgaar for that seems good, it starts to get into a second deck concept.
I've been wanting try flayer of the hatebound I thought there could be something too it. but as you already said about him.
