Now that the spoilers are out I feel like there are two distinct ways to build the deck. A go wide strat with metallic mimic and merfolk mistbinder that tops out with the merfolk that taps everything an opponent controls to alpha strike in. Or a tall strat where you just suit up and protect unblockable stuff, which just looks like a variant of the UG pummeled builds.
I think the question is more can the deck keep up with decks like temur energy that have lots of interaction that leave a card behind glorybringer, chandra, torch of defiance, scarab god (if four color), etc. Can the go wide strat beat a T3 Chandra? Can the tall strat punch through glorybringer and hydra profitably? Can you still have answers up in hand to handle control mainboard.
Sultai is the best way to beat Glorlybringer or Plainswalkers. Vraska's Contempt and Fatal Push are so good.
- Another one drop. It needs that extra something to get under Temur or trade/race with Mono Red.
- Better tempo play. It seems the tempo cards are going to pirates, but there needs to be more for fish other than to just explore/unblockable.
- Better removal. This can go hand and hand with the tempo, but the deck would need to disrupt Temur Energy to stand a chance. Maybe it can go three colors for a light splash whether to Temur or Sultai for removal spells.
Everything else in good shape.
I have been testing Sultai. 3 push and 1 Vraska's Contempt "GloryBringer Hate". Maybe even side board a Vraska, Relic Seeker she is very broken.
I truly believe Merfolk will have power now. Lord just works
I've been toying with this but just as dimir. The sultan deck looks disgustingly cool but so much of the green rotates out I stuck with just U/B.
I've found that early opening hands with lots of interaction is ideal. Build a mana base, counter and kill some of their stuff, then once we hit turn 4 drop champion then it's off to the races with a Lilly or Scarab god.
Anyway - not all fivecolored decks is confirmed and can be struck of the list - yet Cats still get quite some color-coverage already across multiple decks. That's interesting.
The synergy between these abilities is silly.
Not a fan of the face cards (or any) being foils, btw.
Well I have been playing a version of this deck since right after Game Day. I felt Marvel was just to inconstant. Also hated feeling how unfair it was if you got lucky. It was very easy to switch over.
Since I haven't seen a Temur Energy Thread I'll start the fire.
Am I missing something or is Imminent Doom just terrible? I don't see any applications for it in any constructed formats, including EDH. It doesn't seem good in limited either.
So, if Saheeli gets banned tomorrow, the deck is obviously DOA, but that feels a bit unlikely, so let's assume that she stays, and Felidar Guardian takes the hit instead (making my GW cat deck sad). What is the future of Saheeli twin w/o the combo?
If either get banned I'm planning to just move to a temur a build with 4 Nissan. Tons of 2-3 drop good creatures.
