Well, part of it is the numbers. We're not even behind playing 1 of Zulaport or Blood Artist, much less a 4 of. Missing exalted through Qasali or Hierarch, mana ramp through mana dorks (so you are likely dead before you develop a board), bolster through Anafenza or Gavony, etc. We tend to have more one ofs and use Chord or Eldritch Evolution to have more of a toolbox. At least from the deck as its been the past year or so. I think there's a reason it's developed to where it is at. But if you are on a budget, go play. However forum rules are that you go to the budget forum to discuss there. Not that I want to play police man! But this thread is for the most competitive version of the deck. Sorry if that all seems rude.

That list is so far away from where this deck has been, is, or is going I can't entirely say. There are some good cards, but you'd need to really playtest it. I have my doubts it has consistency or synergy. Have you read the primer or looked at recent decklists? You are missing mana dorks for one.

Link, verdant catacombs are definitely not being reprinted in a modern masters set, that's a huge cash cow and you'd be insane to think WOTC would miss out on that business opportunity. People have been waiting for catacombs to be reprinted for years now, you may as well pull that trigger, bud.

WOTC makes nothing off Verdant Catacombs/Mesa etc. Unless they do reprint. It's the secondary market that profits off fetches. High prices keep some people off magic or out of modern, or certain colors. Since they are most focused on Standard, it's inevitable they cycle back to the other fetches at some point.

I have 2 of path SB. I can't see cutting them. The only time I had less was when I was trying Mardu Burn. Push and Self Inflicted Wound. Still had a path though, exile versus destroy or sac is significant. But, Naya or Boros are slightly superior to Mardu, and even the smallest percentage points matter in Grand Prix size tourneys. I did use Path on a Goblin Guide to fix my mana once too. Don't forget that piece.

Have you guys tried using 2 life from the loam instead of 3? cons and pros? thanks

If you rollback a few pages, we went to three Life from the more typical at the time. Thought was needing lands thrown into GY. However, that discussion was pre ban. Maybe it's worth having again. I was at 2x for a long time, even though others had gone to 3x.

Sorry, but can we get off MTGO vs Cockatrice arguments and back to the deck? People can believe why a card etc is good or not for a number of reasons. Please state those with ideas and decklists. But you don't have to be right, and they don't have to be wrong. Don't like an idea listed? Move on... post your idea.

Question, what is the overall thought on BOMAT COURIER?

It seems like a good fit for the deck.

Cost one, has haste, and can draw you into more cards when burn lacks cards which is more often then not. I know if it is a late game draw it isn't all that great, but neither are any of our creatures minus EotGR and Grim Lavamancer.

I have to think of its rulings, but sounds dangerous. Could you lose the stockpile exiled with a timely removal? If they kill your first copy of Bomat, and you resolve a second one, does that Bomat still have access to the exiled cards?

One issue with burn is unloading your hand too fast, which this does help, when you are in top decking. That's where Lavamancer helps. Question I think is what do you take out? Maybe 1 or 2-of would be okay? Because if you do get to exile 4-5 or cards, and you discard your 1-2 land hand (because that's all your holding for bluff .. happens all the time) then Bomat could be awesome, end the game.

I've just ordered two Blood Moons. I wanna try them out alongside a singleton Fulminator Mage in the SB and see how they go.
Hope they're mine before Monday night Smile

I have been played moons in the sideboard for so long time! They are great against BGx, UWx, Ad nauseam, Vakalut decks, Eldrazi decks, they slow down Tron as well (even if they are not so effective to let you win the game instantaneously like they did with Jund for example). Most of all, we can play it T3 with just 1 island and 1 swamp, the double blue mana is often not necessary cause you will lock the game and not need to make snapcaster->counter

Yeah that's my goal indeed. Moon shuts down many strategies and it's often better in the matchups in which I'd side Fulminator in. I just hope they won't get milled by Scour.

Guys, what do you think it's better for the sideboard? Lighthouse or Cavern of Souls?

I've been on and off Blood moon for some of those reasons, but also it restricts our tempo too.

I'm more for card draw personally than our creatures being needed in a control heavy environment. We need answers in hand more than we need creatures? Each creature they counter just takes a counter off something more important for us to resolve? Just my thoughts. Never played cavern in this, but do in my Mardu Martyr Proc dec, because in that deck landing the creatures is key. My Blood moons are in my Martyr proc deck too, along with 4 ghost quarter main. With the flagstones and bunch of plains, I only need red to get out Nahiri or Lightning Helix. Or SB cards such as hide//seek or wear//tear.

On both sides, Fiend Hunter or Flicker wisp, there are a lot of ifs in their rationale. If they have a sac outlet, if you need Kalitta off board, etc. Probably a preference and meta call. I like them wasting their removal on Fiend hunter instead of a combo piece .... if they even have removal in hand. Otherwise their piece stays exiled a while, like resetting a scooze too.

I don't know. The exile a creature tapped or untapped power of Fiend Hunter is better than destroy or -3 if revolt triggered. Especially with a sac outlet on the board, then you can permanently exile. Plus one Gavony activation or Anafenza puts Fiend hunter out of bolt range, and even as a 1/3 isn't a bad hard cast early blocker.

Weird how that list played only one Horizon Canopy with 3 Renegade Ralliers.

I've played only 1 Horizon for over a year, not sure I've missed the second, but ordering one to playtest. Some pain involved with Horizon, and doesn't help Black.

How many of you play land destruction in your side board? I'm leaning towards putting Molten Rain in when playing MTGO due to the huge number of "big land" decks.

I run molten rain and side it in vs tron, works better on the play but still overall ok.

I have 2 molten rain in SB of my RWg Burn Deck. Burn is not my main deck, but sometimes with Burn if you can just scrape through to T4 or T5 that's it. Keeping them off Tron with a couple extra damage can make worthwhile diff.

We play her because anything that recurs Martyr recurs her at 6/6 when we're ready, with no extra mana investment. Student of Warfare and Figure of Destiny require the non-stop mana investment while dying to mostly the same removal once they're big - Abrupt Decay, Fatal Push, Path to Exile, etc. Against decks that can't stop it (I.E. Tron), Serra also gives us a turn 2 6/6 if we need to force our hand to generate an early clock. While there are better beaters, you won't find a more efficient way to end games for the cost in our deck than Serra. I don't know if I call her very good and there are times where she is a dead draw, but she is excellent at what she does for us, and I haven't found a better replacement for her.

So always 4 of? I'm 3 of with a one of Student right now. Feels okay.

Also Ranger of Eos I have at 3 of.

Even though she's a one cmc I never play Serra early. I find her to be a midrange creature, when you can ensure she's out of bolt range and flying. I've taken her down to 3 copies, but maybe even 2 as I like a one of student of warfare.

    Thoughts on serra ascendant????
