To be honest, I thing that many Leyline of the void, were run because with open decklists, the costs to run them is minimal, with that much yard around. Had it not been this, it would drop in half.
On the other hand, if it was not for a Tier 0, broken deck like Hogaak, people would not run Leyline at all.
I mean, graveyard decks as a whole are not as good as people make them to be. I do not consider Phoenix to be a graveyard deck and I say that as a Phoenix player also. When Hogaak himself is banned, the number of Lootings will go down the drain and people won't need to run Leylines mainboard.
Wizards just mess up; they banned the wrong card, and now they have to ban Hogaak as well.

I think running 0-2 maindeck modal graveyard cards or 0-2 is fine or 0-2 light graveyard hate cards(like Relic of progenitus and other cards than can draw) plus 4 more in the graveyard if need be, is fine. The problem starts when we have >4 dedicated sideboard cards to combat graveyard decks. Meaning things like 4 Leyline of the void + 1-2 Surgical Extraction or stuff like that. This, I think, is a sign that there is something wrong.

    PS: Ban Hogaak, arisen necropolis.

"Our goal is not to eliminate graveyard strategies from the Modern metagame, but rather to weaken this version of the graveyard combo archetype that has proven too powerful for other decks to reasonably adapt to."

I take this as a shot at people asking for looting to be banned. You are perfectly capable of adapting to looting decks. You just want dad to punish everyone else for playing them. LONG LIVE FAITHLESS LOOTING!!!

Yeah, me too. Graveyard decks should not cease to exist in Modern. This is a diverse format, where everyone should be able to have their pet decks. The announcement was truly great, because outside of this deck Modern is a very fun and interactive format!

Let us have a great Modern format and a great PT!

I'm not sure if I like this. As I said in my previous post with this deck gone Tron will come back and we have metagame where fair decks are dead except for uw. I wish I was wrong on this one but I'm very sure this is (unfortunately) going to happen.

Fair decks(UWx, BGx) got new tools to fight Tron. Unearth on Fulminator Mage, Ghost Quarter + Wrenn and Six, Assassins Trophy and finally Field of Ruin + Surgical Extraction.

Tron is the biggest winner for sure and a Tier 1 deck again; but this time everything is going to be better, I think, Ayiluss.

If you ban Looting, you kill half the format. Is totally unreasonable, and Wizards knows it.

Don't you think that the format dies because if a card is banned, isn't problematic? Looting should be considred before it becomes a Brainstorm.

Nah, they specifically said Dredge is fine per se. Looting will be played as much as Stirrings will be played. 2 or 3 decks playing the card, that are absolutely beatable and can be won via 2-3 sideboard cards or can be won mainboard, are completely fine.

Faithless Looting is completely safe and a completely fine card to be played.

I already said so, but imho Twin wouldn’t even be a Tier in the current Modern. Force of Negation, Fatal Push, the general power level going up.

Yes. I saw it, hugely agree. Also, a thing that people do not mention that much. I did some testing vs UW Control. I played UR Twin and tried to tune it to today's meta, as much as I could. Still, the deck would evolve and one can not come that much close to how would today's Twin be. But I tried, as a past Twin player. Opts, JTMS, V cliques, 1 pierce, 1 snare, abrade side, magmatic sinkhole for sure. Anyways; here is what I found out.

    1) Remand is terrible at today's meta, but still great vs UW;
    2) Electrolyze would be unplayable today
    3) and most importantly, Dovin's Veto. Man, did I have splinter Twin with dispel backup and this card was pretty much brutal. Coupled with force of negation and Vendilion Clique in UW, the matchup seems like a bad one.

Still, it's not easy for him to tap out for big bombs like Teferi, Jace, Narset, etc, which would make Twin a popular force and you to change your playstyle to win it. Then again, if he has FoN, he can tap out, then FoN the Twin, and then gain the card advantage back with those walkers, which still makes it a good matchup for UW.

All that said, yes, Twin would be absolutely beatable and not a tier 1 deck, I believe, but close. For sure, a safe unbanning, for the first time since it's banning, I believe.

Hope Wizards will be liberal with unbans post Pro Tour. We will see. Either SFM or Twin? But with UW doing that well, I doubt about SFM. Maybe next year with a new product. Would love to know their opinion on Twin, as much as I would love a text about that Hogaak deck.

In how much time are we going to have the banlist? Writing from Italy, can’t do maths, lol.

Less than 3 hours from now, 10:30 AM EST, it's 4:30 PM Italy time.

I would give 70% No changes, 30% Bridge or Hogaak ban.

Modern seems like it's in a healthy spot outside of that Hogaak deck(even this might be fine).
I saw both Red Bull tournaments and there was so much fun, interactive magic, with lot's of back and forths and decisions in it, where the most skilled players eventually won(especially in Italy, Javier Dominguez proved again why we should consider him one of the best MTG players in the world).

I would take a "No Changes" today, it's just that I think Modern is soooo fun and interactive outside of Hogaak, that this would make Modern great again!

Earthbound, great post. This is a problem though. Those people degrade the quality of the forums. And they are so vocal that nobody else can speak about nothing. It's all them and "Modern is bad". That's why they will keep getting banned over and over again.

PS: Modern is great, outside that Hogaak deck.

I enjoy Modern very much; I think it's full of interesting, interactive decisions, which a skilled player can take advantage of.

I would love to live in this fictional world!

My world is the real one. Just look at Reid Duke's today's stream. Full of interesting, interactive decisions.

The fictional world is another one; the one that Modern is bad and uninteractive. The one that the only thing that matter is...Twin?

Those last days of mtgsalvation mean there are not admins around anymore. That said anybody who wants to make inappropriate/illegal posts gets to have his chance now. Don't forget, everybody. Those are your last posts! You will have to look upon them for the time to come and we can look down on those posts and say "maybe it's for better that this forum came to an end".

I enjoy Modern very much; I think it's full of interesting, interactive decisions, which a skilled player can take advantage of. And then there is Hogaak who is basically telling you "you can lose game 1, let's go to sideboards. Let's see. Can you find your hate in both games. If yes, will this be enough"?

    Final guess:
    A) Ban Bridge from below
    B) No Changes

    Both equally possible, I believe.

Very, very small chance on Allosaurus Rider.

PS: Reid Duke just said on his stream:
"I am not good in guessing, but if you force me to, I would say that on Monday Bridge From Below will be banned."

Still seeing phoenix put up tons of results in medium sized events. No one is denying it is good of course, just feel that hogaak has overshadowed another big problem.

0 Phoenix's in the latest GP's top 8 is far from characterizing the deck a problem. It's conversion rate was probably bad, because it was sitting on 6% on day 2(and 5% of the people were playing Mono R Prowess). People are playing a Thing in The ice and Surgical extraction deck, because it's a good meta call though as it's great against Hogaak, but it's far from being a problem. If Hogaak is no more, one of the primary reasons to pick up the deck ceases to exist.

I am still on the Bridge from below banning, either now or September. I firmly believe Wizards will do it, for the same reasons Golgari-Grave Troll is banned. That deck didn't top 8(I believe it was only one top 8 by BBD). Hogaak already showed it's teeth and top 8'd twice in its first big tourney.
I mean, data were irrelevant on GGT banning; they should be largely irrelevant now. So, there is no point on waiting out for data, since it's not diversity that is the problem here, but the sideboard wars, which is real and proven. Wizards has all the tools needed for a banning, as there is a predicament with GGT!

I just believe PT will be a mess if they decide to let it live and wait for more data gathering. Modern is super healthy outside of Hogaak. I hope they will let Modern show it's diversity and power and they ban this deck now, instead of September. Or else, be prepared for people who say Modern is unfun at the moment, and ditching August's GP's for one abomination that ruins our otherwise excellent format!
