spark elementals are great. I love seeing an opening hand with one, or even two. Even late game, depening on matchup, there still as effecient. Tarfire replaced lash out. I utterly despise lash out, i never win the clash, and sucks if your holding them against a creatureless board.
Why do people use lash out? 90 percent of the time i've playtested with it, i never get the 3 damage to them, and it becomes a very bad incinerate.
Id rather run shock/tarfire. i've hated having 2 lash out in my hand and no creatures on there board, when if i was holding any other burn spell the game could be over.
Our playgroup is 2-4, we're seeing who wants to become slaves to paper cards again
We are debating drafting, as we get some play value for the cards, but knowing us we'll just rip pacts apart mercilessly and trade for cards were missing to create decks. Constructed>Draft IMO.
We're prolly gonna buy 2 lorwyn and 2 shadowmoor each, in the next few weeks. As to ravnica, i was looking at the decks at the format, nothing really caught my eye - i think the most fun i had was urza's and masques block:P
I havent played magic for awhile now (few years? last time i actually competivley played was Masques block, lol). Anyway me and some friends are looking to start playing again, standard. Question is - i noticed theres alot of sets in standard now, when is the rotation? We're looking to play this summer, what sets will be leaving standard? (if any). Which brings me to the next question, in terms of most playable cards, what set should we invest in? We plan on buying 2-3 boxes each, but dont want to buy boxes of a set thats just going to rotate out soon, or has alot of unplayable baddies (im looking at you, prophecy). Thanks for the hand!
Regarding new sets, I've been playing magc since revised and to me, this is one of the most enjoyable type 2 seasons I've experienced. It doesn't seem bland to me.
Perhaps the game of magic is becoming bland to you in general?
You would think, wouldnt you? But that is not the case. I played hardcore during urza's block/masques. Attended many ptq's, weekly dci tourney's, ect. (thats hardcore to me, i was playing magic alot during this time)I stpped then for a long time. I came back for rav, just when TS was released. Rav didnt appeal to me, and apart from TS itself, the rest of the block hasnt, either. Maybe im just to used to brokeness that urza's block was, seems mirodin block may have appealed to me more:P
Academy was restriced/banned if i recall quite quickly.
I for one found masques to be an incredibly fun set/block (the only set that i have boughten boxes for) but i can see why people would dislike it.
Time Spiral, is a set i enjoy. Planar Chaos and future sight are another story, in my book. Bland new abilities, and i dislike the new card look (the few that have it). While there are some positives (that full card art on the 3/1 rebel is amazing!), there is no way to get away from the fact that the last 2 sets are rather bland. I'm hoping 10th edition can reprint some good cards, and while i enjoyed ravnica as well, i've seen it for to long. To put it short, i may be just griping about the new magic, but the old magic to me is where it was at.
I've recently started playing magic again after a very long break. I played a ton during the urza's, and kept playing well into onslaught, and then stopped. To me, urza's and masques were some of the most fun i've ever had playing magic.
After gettin back into it...these new sets, to me are very bland. The top decks are no way as varied as they were back then, and are all 2-3 colors. Im fed up with having to play 2 colors. or having someone tell me "oh, just splash so and so" Maybe this is just a rant, but wizards need's to step up the next sets or i dont plan on continuing this game.
Been messing around with this deck for awhile now. I've found with a good hand i can do well against many decks. Curious to any ideas/sideboard reccomendations.
I've had some success recently with this, a good balance of creature kill, discard and wincon's. Pardon the non card tag's, its late and im not 100 percnet on how to make them show up
Now some may scream at not including remands, but i see it like this. Rewind, while heavy on mana, really helps mid-late game with the untapping of 4 lands. 4 cancel, obviouly, 4 rune snag, and 4 muddles. Why muddle? not only does stop instants and sorcerys (good in mirror, good against alot of things) it can transmute for sb options...shadow of doubt+sacred ground, which is quite nice. 1 maindeck ivory mask because i REALLY hate hellbent demonfire late game when they got a billion lands.
I personally think splashing black is pointless. Put in grozoth to transmute for dragonstorm, and you get more consitency with only 2 colors.
With all the card draw i have yet to not have dragonstorm 1-4 or grozoth aka dragonstorm 4-6.
Spell Snare really helps against Shadow of a Doubt, as well as numerous other 2 casting cost threats. Remand is always good. The card draw which i seem to see alot of people leaving out is essential, at least in my opinion. 10 card draw is enough, and leaves you with 9 answers to a control type matchup (spell snare, gigadrowse, and remand)
Im gonna post the absolute nuts card for RDW....
IN A WEEK OR TWO! HAHA
anyway, figured id post what im playing latley, in local stores/mws.
Only have lost too some weird mishra artifact deck, and after sideboard its GG.
