First, the deck:
Matches:
Round 1: U/W control
Game 1: A quick hand gets him to 0 on turn 4.
+3 Rain of Gore, -3 Searing Blaze
Game 2: An un-countered Rain of Gore ensures he cannot play his expected lifegain cards from his sideboard. Butt-hurts from my opponent ensued. Two Wall of Omens slows down my two Goblin Guides, and he did land a Baneslayer Angel, but I was able to close out this game easily.
2-0
Round 2: Dredgevine
Game 1: Another quick hand saves me from his inevitable greavyard based beats.
+3 Faerie Macabre, +3 Rakdos Charm, -2 Searing Blaze, -4 Magma Jet
Game 2: A turn 3 Venegvine and friends makes quick work of me, and Darkblasts keep my Lavamancers down.
+2 Searing Blaze, +2 Magma Jet, -4 Grim Lavamancer
Game 3: He went all with a turn 2 Lotleth Troll, discarding creatures to make it a 6/5 and only holding one card, which my next turn goes Searing Blaze then Bolting it. He has no way to come back after his dredges turn up next to nothing for him.
I was relieved to find out he was not running any Gnaw to the Bone in his 75.
2-1
Round 3: U/R Storm
Game 1: He storms for lethal turn 3...
+3 Faerie Macabre, +3 Rakdos Charm, -4 Searing Blaze, -2 Grim Lavamancer
Game 2: A quick hand puts pressure on him to try to combo out on turn 3, which luckily fizzles. I did not see any grave-hate this game.
Game 3: I take a hand with 2 Rakdos Charms, clear his graveyard turn 3, then tap out on turn 4 to get him to 5. Big mistake... he was able to combo out his turn 5, and if I would have been able to clear his graveyard after his Past in Flames, his combo would have fizzled allowing me to win. Bummer.
1-2
Round 4: Death Cloud
My opponent and I draw the round to ensure cuts to top 8(Only 16 showed up for this tournament).
0-0-3
Top 8!
Round 5: Dredgevine
Game 1: A repeat of game 1 previous.
Same sideboard as game 3.
Game 2: Same as game 1 above.
2-0
Round 6: U/R Storm
Game 1: I killed his Goblin Electromancer turn 3, after which he tried to combo out the next turn to no success.
+3 Faerie Macabre, +3 Rakdos Charm, -4 Searing Blaze, -2 Grim Lavamancer
Game 2: Got him to 2 life turn 3, which forced him to attempt to combo that next turn. Because he could not pay the 2 life for Gitaxian Probes, it fizzled at 7 storm, which killed all my Guide and Lavamancer, but a Bolt next turn sealed the deal.
2-0
Round 7: Junk Doran
I watched this guy play against Jund after my quick defeat of the Storm player, and from what I saw, I was really hoping for him to play him instead of Jund.
Game 1: Quick hand makes for an easy turn 4 win.
Wasnt really sure if there was anything in the Sideboard to put in..
Game 2: Leyline of Sanctity. NOOOOOOO. The Archiles' Heel of Burn. I managed to put him to 7 or something like that, but with only 12 creatures.. lost.
+3 Rakdos Charm, +3 Molten Rain, -4 Lava Spike, -2 Bump
Game 3: Leyline of Sanctity X2. Tried, but couldn't get there. Got him to 9 or something. It was a very sad game.
1-2
So, I took Second place, netting me a Thoughtseize. Not too bad.
Overall I am happy with the deck performed. It was very consistent throughout the matches. Thank you bigwithdraw for the comments previous, and I just noticed out decks are pretty much the same. I saw another Burn deck running the Deathrite Shamans instead of the Lavamancers, and he didn't do too hot, but he was also running Miracles which I think are a very risky investment, and not worth it in the long run.
I am mulling over adding back in Hellspark Elementals and Keldon Marauders to combat that Leyline. I would not be surprised to see more Burn hate the next Modern event at my LGS seeing Burn get second in the last 2 Modern events.
Quote from bigwithdrawSo I came in 7th in my local GPT trial this weekend with burn. My list was the one I posted above, with just a sideboard change.
DeckMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards Sideboard
4 Rakdos Charm
4 Sudden Shock
4 Smash to Smithereens
3 Shattering Spree
Rakdos Charm was an all star, as predicted. Sudden Shock came in a few times, was decent. Won my match against infect, and was decent against affinity's ravagers. Only change would be dropping the 4 smash's, as while good, they feel to slow and clunky. I would recommend dropping 4 for 1 more shattering spree and 3 volcanic fallout. Shattering Spree was ridiculous against affinity. Turn 3 spree for 3 took out his whole board pretty much, leaving him 2 lands and sealed me the game. Fallout was really missed and needed against a B/W tokens deck I played, which I eventually lost to in top 8, i'd say for the sole reason as I didn't have any cheap sweeps in sideboard to buy me a few turns. Against some of the quicker decks like affinity, you really need to turn into aggro control, siding out all of your player target burn spells (lava spike, bump) to bring in your hate. Once they gas out, your topdecks become much better then there's to race.
Congratulations! Would you mind adding match ups with sideboard choices?

4 Stromkirk Noble
4 Ash Zealot
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Hellrider
2 Lightning Mauler
2 Stonewright
4 Searing Spear
4 Pillar of Flame
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Clifftop Retreat
1 Boros Guildgate
14 Mountain
1 Slayer's Stronghold
2 Oblivion Ring
4 Skullcrack
3 Mizzium Mortars
3 Zealous Conscripts
3 Moment of Heroism
The only changes I made since last week was the sideboard. Zealous Conscripts is insane. Theres so many good steal targets now. I also prefer Moment of Heroism too Nearhearth Pilgrim. While the pilgrim is good, I find he has a big target painted on his forehead, and rarely last's more then one turn. Moment not only doubles as a combat trick, but can still give you the infinite life combo, and come out of nowhere, as opposed to the pilgrim where they know it's coming.
My only game losses were dropping one game against a R/B zombies deck where I got mana flooded ( I believe I ended the game with 14 lands in play)
and against a Naya Midrange type deck where he played all 3 thragtusk and I could only skullcrack one of them. I may make a few more changes to the sideboard, but I cant forsee much changing in the main deck. If anything I'd cut either the Lightning Maulers or stonewrights for something, but it's tough when they can be so nuts sometime.
