I'm not really a fan of these gimmicks. It really dilutes the legendary themes. I would prefer if they go back and fill in the lore from the old sets like Ice Age. Why can't we expand the pearl trident merfolk of the pearl trident? Make a Leshrac creature Minion of Leshrac, etc...

leshrac was a planeswalker, but i totally agree.

cool i guess, but its not really a selling point when every set is so full of legendaries to cater to edh now. i mean, you could pretty much say that about every pack from any standard legal set from like the past 2 years.

it was hardly appealing the first time around too.

i just don't understand the rationale.

okay, so changing the card means no one will play the combo... sure, that makes sense.

except that they change cards in this format all the ******* time so what does it matter if you make the combo unplayable by changing the card at all? there's cards that are dramatically different from their paper counterparts so it doesn't even matter if this got changed. yeah, it'd be the same as banning it... but huurrrdurrr whats the point in making a format with malleable cards if you're going to pick and choose whats malleable and whats bannable.

alchemy just needs to go away already.

some of these have been spoiled for days now, and there has been almost no interest in them in any community i've seen.

i can't ******* stand how some of the cards are just wildly and completely different from their paper counterparts. its needless. its not the same card. you designed something completely different. name it and art it as such so less people are confused on what the **** is actually going on here.

most of them are suuuuuuuuper pushed with ridiculous mechanics or word soups, but that seems to be par for the course with alchemy. design something broken, get them to blow all their wildcards, then "fix" it.

why the **** does wilson have trample and can't be blocked? take the resources from this failed format and dedicate them to not falling asleep at the wheel with card design.

its also essentially a rotating format, that has its own internal rotation as cards can be changed on a whim after you spent resources. anything to just suck your wallet dry these days am i right?

if you like this format great good for you, but you're in the minority. i'm not sure why you like it, so please explain it to me so i might understand the appeal of this... ******* trainwreck.

Some cards like Minsc & Boo Timeless Heroes card if a card has trample or not, so it's not as redundant as it seems.

My issue is they have a bunch of none FR legendaries like Tasha (Greyhawk & Domains of Delight), Hourglass Coven (Domains of Delight), Vladmir and Godfrey (Ravenloft), but no Elminster WTF?

The minsc youre referencing doesnt exist in the same space as the version of wilson im referencing, and they never will unless wilson is printed this way in paper or minsc from cl2 is added to arena exactly as printed in paper...

    So... no

    Dont justify ***** design.

This also demonstrates the inherent problem with the concept of alchemy

snap thoughts on this is that its already intimidating to approach.

its easier to throw out a number to the table pregame, like my deck is a 7 (all of them are am i right?) than it is to determine if your deck is positive or negative - especially when a deck can actually be both by your listed criteria - and they can further fall into different spectrums of power within that group. things like combo aren't an all or nothing and your deck doesn't automatically hit a higher tier of power just by including one. stax can be brutal and oppressive just by building itself up regardless. those sorts of things. then we're throwing in commander resilience on top of that - which can also be a sliding scale based on whats in the deck and what that commander does, and not just whats printed on the card...

i think its also important for everyone, EVERYONE, not just here but all players, to recognize that hoofing ends the game just as effectively as thoracle. things like that aren't really that different in their goal and ability to just close it out. if i smash your face in with commander damage by turn 4/5, thats not at all any different from you killing me with a combo turn 4/5. they're the same. i've certainly seen players cry about combo and how cheese it is, and then zerg out in less turns like it didn't just do the same thing to the pod. i mean, the times i've been recklessly smashed down within a few turns by a voltron player, or an extra combats player, or whatever... it happens every single week at least once.

i can't help but feel you're holding some aspects of edh to different standards despite ending games in similar timeframes. just because a combo isn't seen coming doesn't put it on a different level from an effective board state that ends the game. you just got there a different way - you built up presence - the combo player dug for pieces - both require work - both end the game.

it might be effective, it might get everyone on the same page, but even a quick glance says who wants to read all this ***** and then figure out where my deck falls. simplicity is absolutely key and until someone figures out how to communicate power of a deck as simply as possible to a pod nothing is really going to change. thats why we see so many gravitate toward a number scale despite it being so subjective or simply saying i aim to win by turn X.

  • posted a message on Double Masters 2 Singles price prediction
we've already seen singles prices drop significantly, and the set isn't even released yet.

you're fooling yourself if you don't think they'll fall further, especially short term.

some of these things have multiple versions now, and sure, while mh2 fetches were printed and obtainable over a longer period of time, they did fall rapidly after the sets release all the same.

we've also heard supply chain production issues since oh idk, at least eldraine? sure, there's covid, but when they say it for every single set it feels more like a FOMO hype driver than an actual problem. even time spiral remastered, which was crazy hard to get a for a bit, still pops up from time to time at target/walmart - and prices within that set also fell dramatically.

long term? everything will creep back up, short term, yeah prices are going to dip pretty hard. same as they have with every single set in modern history - same as every single masters set. ever.

i'm honestly really tired of resto angel at rare.

it use to be worth a few bucks, but its been reprinted into the ground and while its a good card its just... not complex enough to be a rare any more.

I like the classic animar art more, but this isnt terrible.

Ive always secretly wanted to build him, so if i somehow get a foil i will.

Well it did become available in foil in masters 25 definitely too late to get now it’s $75-$85 in foil

Bold of you to assume "somehow" means run out and purchase when the foil has existed for awhile now.
