clan_iraq posted a message on [BFZ] Block - Why is It so Unappealing?OGW is undoubtably bringing a higher power level than BFZ even if its not great, but the design elements are still just as lacking; the mechanics are bad, the art is bad, the story is bad, and they errataed the whole first set. For some people, the playable cards in OGW will be enough to react favorably to the set, but I only cared about the design in the first place, so from what we've seen so far its still two thumbs firmly down. Support & Cohort are two real stinkers. Support is at odds with Megamorph for the least inspired mechanic (and name) of all timePosted in: New Card Discussion -

You might have made a thing, but that doesn't mean this isn't just a 2 mana 0/1 with " : Add to your mana pool." This should have at least been a functional reprint of Manakin. -

AvatarofBro posted a message on [BFZ] Block - Why is It so Unappealing?I know I've been a pretty vocal critic of the direction the game has gone since Gatecrash, and I'm in the minority in that I didn't like Khans block very much, but BFZ takes the cake in terms of disappointment. It seems meandering, like everything was an afterthought. The Eldrazi are boring and interchangeable. The power level is a joke. The whole set seems lazy and confused. I make it a habit to pick up a pack of every new set, even if I'm underwhelmed by it, just for tradition's sake. BFZ is the first set I ignored entirely in a very, very long time.Posted in: New Card Discussion
That said, OGW seems at the very least more interesting than its predecessor, if still a little underpowered for my tastes. I'll still hold out hope for SOI, because I'm a moron. -

One of the first lessons you learn during your orientation at WOTC is the coveted finger pointing technique in which you are taught how to point at everyone and everything else for your shortcomings.
NPH was a weak set, BFZ was a weak set, and OGW looks to be another weak set. You just watch, if sales end up bad, they will cry up and down that it was the fault of the dastardly leakers! -

twicky_kid posted a message on Wizards Suspends 5 L3, 8 L2 and 1 L1 Judge from the SoutheastStrong arming people for sharing something on social media is a big problwm. If that is the stance WotC is going to take it is destined to fail. Just as a player I see a lot of fake cards shared every day. I can image how much Roberto gets sent to him. I listen to a lot of MTG podcast. Between going after MTG GOLDFISH and content creators WotC you are on the wrong side of this issue. You should be kissing Roberto's ass. You say this group has had access to spoilers since March 2015 (that you are aware of). If it wasn't for Reberto's help you would have never discovered the source. He could have told you to go to he'll for the way approached him about it. You are lucky this was a pro player and cared about his DCI number. This could have blown up in your face.Posted in: Magic General
I don't care what WotC tells me that it hurts sales. They can say whatever they want....show me the numbers. Not willing to do that, fine. I'm not willing to believe you. NPH showed me much different. We had the god book before the first spoilers ran. Cannot count the number of cases I bought. Opened every one of them for 2nd market sell. Having the god book allowed me to determine if I wanted to invest in a set.
Where this all falls apart is when WotC makes a smitty set like BFZ. If that set did not have the expeditions it would have been one of their biggest failures for a set.
Looking at this WotC makes it's money off limited and the impulse buyer. Tournament play doesn't make them a dime. I see in no way does a spoiler effect either of those type of players. Want to make money? How about not making a set based on 2 headed giant. After you have already removed 2 headed giant from MTGO because it was the least played format.
This is more about feelings getting hurt than finacial. A lot of work goes into making a set. Having that work undone by unofficial spoilers is sad for the content creator and design team. If they had used this angle instead of "it hurts sales" players would have been empathedic. Strong arm tactics and spin doctors what we got instead. -

Hmmm...ehh is ally a creature type? lol If yes...dang! Fun piece of work Mr. Outfitter gave us.
Pretty sure Ally is THE creature type they have in mind with this thing.
I love equipment that helps rebound from wraths by strapping to a single dude and beating face. This does not do that. -

hateradio posted a message on The current state of the gameApart from the occasional draft I haven't felt like buying any new MtG product for years now and have spent all my MtG-Money on the secondary market. while viable, i don't see much point honestly. you're forcing 5 color for a tribe that has almost no support in at least two of those colors, and mediocre support in another 2.
it'd be like making goblin tribal u/r, theres almost no reason to.

I know, im about to get a flood of responses saying otherwise, but if the past has proven anything, this will sell well for a week or two and then you'll never find anyone interested in it again

People still dump money into mtgo so theres minimal reason to fix it. Once it starts not making money itll change
Also, it blows my mind when people assume no one enjoys the story aspect of magic
Sometimes its good to try to step outside our bubbles

once again wotc is several years too late. it'll flop, then they'll be reluctant to expand the ip again

on what rationale?
her blink effect can push some pretty hard value though its slow, her life gain is ass, and she's probably going to die the turn you use her to draw cards... but you're using her to draw cards and replace herself
she's not stupid good or broken or anything, but i'm not really seeing her as "like really bad" she's more of forgettably average. decent if there's no real alternatives for what you're trying to use her for. i don't know, i feel like we're always so quick to proclaim a card as 'like really bad dude' when its more that they're just not great.

you know which guys i'm talking about, every shop has one
this is what makes me believe these are actually real, the popularity of that tribe and that these seem very fair and are very high quality leaks
still, not looking forward to playing against that guy, in every shop, everywhere

they already have the future future league? maybe its time for greater communication between your parts rather than adding a new one. i mean, if you have systems in place to playtest and hammer out kinks, and kinks still happen, someone isn't communicating properly and adding another voice that gets ignored or misinterpret isn't necessarily actually going to solve any problems.

i think your iconic is much different from what someone else finds iconic, and you could make the case that many of these are indeed actually iconic in appropriate circles. i think this is where the set is going to really fall down. what you think is iconic is not the same as what i think is iconic is not the same as what the kitchen table player thinks is iconic is not the same as what wotc might think is iconic. this means that someone is always going to have a problem with somethings inclusion in this set, because we often forget that magic is much bigger in scope than our local fnm, or legacy group, or edh night, or what those kids in the corner that smell like unwashed feet are playing

neverminding that, even if for some reason the reserve list was abolished with this product, don't expect foil underground seas either. you save reprints like that for products that need a stronger backing when the game is failing, as someone who has played for 24 years... this game is nowhere near failing.
there so many high value cards that are iconic and in need of reprinting without even looking at the reserve list that its not even worth bringing up the reserve list at all. on top of that you don't need to necessarily make it a set oriented around high value reprints to make it desirable either. sure, something iconic thats worth money can help sell packs, but so can iconic low value things that a lot of noncompetitive players want can also do the same. lightning bolt is iconic for instance, or doubling season, or brainstorm, or storm crow. iconic to you might not be the same as iconic to an edh player, or a kitchen table player, or that guy who only buys packs when buying boxes of velveeta at walmart. wotc is pretty in tune with its customers (despite what many people on the internets think) so they'll get this right for the most part - but the majority of people here will ***** they didn't.
as a set, for me right now the most exciting part is no previews. one of the things that has spoiled prereleases for me is that the format gets solved ahead of time. those that keep up with discussion and spoilers they show up and know whats good and whats not, what strategies work and which don't. it takes all the fun out of it to try out new cards in a casual setting and then get paired up against some tryhard that wants to 5-0 rather than have a good time. to gete rushed through the game because they know what everything does already. not keeping up with things isn't an option if everyone else is. sure, a good player can figure these things out fairly easily, but some of the appeal is that its new - not that its been discussed for 3 weeks before the prerelease. so... i'm excited for that aspect of it alone.
that said, msrp has to be less than $10 a pack without a fully spoiled card list in order for me to take the risk or i'll probably just feel ripped off.

Ha, that was my first thought too.
Like, who the **** do the gatewatch think they are? I mean okay, they saved zendikar and innistrad, so now we get two sets where they show up and break the status quo for reasons? Id hate to live on those planes
