Jul 26, 2017SoulProvider posted a message on Treasure Cruisin' with Mayael the AnimaCream of the Crop is such a great card in Mayael. There's times where you can basically tutor with it, it can be quite powerful. Also, Lurking Predators is better than Wild Pair imo.Posted in: Articles

The lack of interaction is a bit concerning but I managed. This deck gains a ton of life and have blockers for days so it isn't too bad. I'm pretty excited to get some more games under my belt when I get some time tonight.

I'm just trying to decide if I want to try out Censor, it seems good on paper I just don't know if it will pull it's weight. I think Gifted Aetherborn might just be better in that slot. Also. Flaying Tendrils hasn't been all that great, it is nice that Gifted Aetherborn and Vile Manifestation live through it though. I also end up taking out the second God-Pharaoh's Gift most games when I board, maybe one main is fine. White is really the only deck exiling stuff maybe just board in a second for those matches.
Any thoughts?
It seems like people like Sniper, I prefer Gifted Aetherborn. Flaying Tendrils is probably necessary.
I don't think Curse is where you want to be, Autority of the Consuls is good because of the enters the battlefield tapped clause. I think Collective Brutality is the card that should be played as I can kill a creature and gain you life. It can also serve as hand disruption for artifact removal.
I think Drake Haven is better. To kill with Faith of the Devoted you have to cycle enough cards, with Haven you can cycle a few cards and kill over time. Haven can also kill after it's been removed assuming you still have Drakes out.
Spot removal is a must in my opinion. Either Grasp or Push, I personally run 3x Grasp.

As far as cards go, they all performed very well but my list did change a bit before I played it so here's my updated list.
3 Walking Ballista
2 Servant of the Conduit
4 Bounty of the Luxa
1 Sandwurm Convergence
2 Pull from Tomorrow
2 Nissa, Steward of Elements
2 Attune with Aether
4 Spring
3 Baral's Expertise
4 Part the Waterveil
4 Botanical Sanctum
8 Forest
7 Island
3 Cascading Cataracts
-Channeler Initiate was fantastic, won me one game after drawing all four of them. I just killed him with 4 3/4 and a bunch of time walks.
-Walking Ballist more often than not came down as a 4/4 or a 5/5. Perfect card for the deck, will be adding the fourth when I get it.
-Bounty of the Luxa best card in the deck by far. I cannot get over how good this card is.
-Sandwurm Convergence solid enough as a one of, won me a game. Probably better in the board as an alt wincon.
-Pull from Tomorrow was another all-star. Perfect for digging for Part the Waterveil to seal up the game. Might be ok as a one of but I feel like two is the better number.
-Nissa, Steward of Elements was a great distraction card, almost like fog effect five and six. Also, another alt wincon. Used for scrying and soaking damage 90% of the time.
-Spring\\Mind was just ok. The ramp was needed but I almost never used the Mind portion with Pull in the list. Considering swapping for Gift of Paradise, especially since it can be cast of Baral's Expertise unlike Spring and the 3 life isn't nothing.
-Baral's Expertise was almost always awesome, except when they went wide. I think a 2/2 or a 3/1 split with Crush of Tentacles might be the way to go.
So all in all, while only taking the deck to 2-2 record I feel like there's something here. I had only goldfished the deck for a day and changed the list the day of FNM. My first real game with the deck was literally round one game one. So with a bit of tuning and practice this is going to be a great deck. Having said that I am thinking of adding a third color, either black for Fatal Push and Flaying Tendrils or going red and leaning a bit more on NRG and adding Magma Spray, Harnessed Lightning, and Radiant Flames. I'm going to keep the deck just UG for now though as I think the deck might be better when it just focuses on what it's trying to do. We'll see after next week.
The SB is up in the air at the moment. I'm going to play this tomorrow (assuming my LGS has the cards) so we'll see how it does.

But for real, anyone that didn't see this coming is blind. I'm just glad they didn't let it drag on for another month, thanks for seeing the light WotC.
The problem is cat combos ability to play a strong, flexible, and otherwise fair deck. Yet at the same time, slap in a two card combo where each piece synergies exceptionally well with the rest of the list. There's entire archtypes of decks that just can't effectively fight what they're doing and expect to still have good game against the rest of the field, it's not just about one specific deck.
Amonkhet added a lot of great cards to combat Mardue (and in general, I love the set personally), unfortunately, the "answers" for cat combo are just more of the same cards we already have, which we all know aren't super effective. If anything, it'll just help bolster 4colors game vs Mardu. Cat combo will be the boogie man for as long as it's in standard, anyone that's watched a standard event or plays against the deck on a regular bases can attest to that. It doesn't really require any "data". Reguardless of how or what youre playing you'll alway have to play around a two card blowout and that's not fun for anyone.
Just my opinion, it's worth what you paid for it.
