Quote from Midn8Walker »Attending a 150ppl modern tournament this weekend with Stickballruss' Decklist - and thinking bout some sideboard slots.
For which matchups the Damping Matrix is needed? I can't remember any game where it would have helped me :'D
Beside that im quite unsure bout the 3xEidolon of the Great Revel - when they come in? Only to fight Storm/Fenix?
Damping matrix is great against affinity, Dominate against devoted druid and eldrazi tron, and good against tron and spirits.
Eidolon comes in when we are on the aggro plan. it's a low cc creature that punishes the opponent just for playing spells. It usually gets killed immediately, but in the rare circumstances when it doesn't, it takes over a game. also, when it dies, it does do 2 damage. Over the course of a game, that adds up. especially vs deaths shadow when all we really need to do is 4-6 damage to win those games.

Round1 - 2:0 vs. R/G Scapeshift (1:0)
Game1: SSG, Ritual, Legion Warboss.
Game2: SSG, SSG, Ritual, Hazoret, Abrade something, Blood Moon.
Easy wins, not much to say.
Round2 - 2:0 vs. Bant Spirits (2:0)
Game1: T3 he swings for 10dmg, T4 he has around 30power on board -> Ensnaring Bridge -> after some trades with hierarch, he concedes -> no outs mainboard vs bridge
Game2: Well timed Anger of the Gods followed by Blood Moon.
Holy f*ck, that deck is explosive. But Ensnaring Bride and Moon are awesome + early sweeper
Round3 - 2:1 vs Jund Death's Shadow (3:0)
Just some words here: It is important to mulligan to your right hate pieces. Chalice or Blood Moon are a must have here.
Best hand ever: "3x Ensnaring Bridge, 2x Gemstone Caverns, 1x Ritual, 1xBlood Moon" -> can u keep this?
Round4 - 2:1 vs BG-Rock (4:0)
Blood Moon T1 on the Draw wins, game 2 i was rekt, game 3 i curved out pretty awesome - Legion Warboss -> Abrade -> Chandra -> Win.
Round5 - 1:2 vs Jund Death's Shadow (4:1)
Impossible draws on his side... 3x Deaths Shadow topdeck stopping my swing for lethal... got him to 1 and lose.
Round6 - 0:2 vs Fenix. (4:2)
Boarded in 10 cards. Guess Phoenix didnt care, Fenix just kills.
Care, it's easy to assume hes on UW Control... was my first big mistake there.
Round6 - 1:2 vs Infect (4:3)
Shame on me, missed a Chalice Trigger and that lost me the game.. was a long day.
Nearly impossible to lose that matchup...
Got taken down from being placed first to the 46. in the end....
tl;dr:
- PyroPrison is really good positioned these days
- I have problems with the "all goblins has to attack" from Rabble
- 8-Goblins have some problems with midrange meta... sometimes they were just useless :s
- people love that deck, everyone had fun and was happy to see it
- will stay on the deck, had awesome games and played great magic
- was impressed how bad Sarkhan, Fireblood is. was great in 1 match and useless in 4.
- One Of Hazoret made my day and won 3 matches alone
- missed somehow the 9. ritual...
2
Return of Jaya Ballard soon (hopefully).
Big Storychanging event incoming (to hopefully killing the gatewatch?)
-> New Ice Age // Coldsnap confirmed!
(It's that easy )
1
I'm somehow unpleased with Goblins in the meta these days.
Many sweepers, decks that hit harder and earlier, abzan walling till dawn, storm comboing before we win, sultai/junk/jund/stuff grinding us out....
2
Facing Controldecks and only chipping in 1-3dmg each round due to Fatal Push, PtE and stuff to kill Piledriver/Denizen until we have no creature left s*cks.
Opponent stabilizes board on ~5-10life and we stopped doing stuff since Tasigur and Angler walling their life totals while we slowly rot.
Swap to Gobots, go wide, dodge singletargetremovals and have fun :'D
I'd probably stay on 3x Piledriver main, the card is just awesome - they either deal with it or die.

T1 Expedition Map -> We need the T1 Shattering Spree
T3 Thought Knot Seer -> We need the T4 4x Mountain and 1xSkred
T3 Natural Tron -> We are f*cked mostly -> On the Play we need the Blood Moon // Molten Rain, maybe two Rains
Last match I had vs this sh*tpiece of deck, I dropped the Moon, he dropped a land -> Thought Knot, dropped a land -> Smasher, dropped a Land -> Wurmcoil.
(OMG. SO. MUCH. SKILL.) q.q
2
2 Scrying Sheets
4 Relic of Progenitus
4 Mind Stone
3 Blood Moon
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Skred
3 Anger of the Gods
2 Chandra, Torch of Defiance
3 Pia and Kiran Nalaar
2 Stormbreath Dragon
2 Eternal Scourge
1 Hazoret the Fervent
1 Obliterate
1 Batterskull
4 Dragon's Claw
3 Molten Rain
2 Shattering Spree
3 Ratchet Bomb
1 Blood Moon
2 Grafdigger's Cage
Round 1
1:2 vs. Jund Death's Shadow
First match was perfectly curved out and won 'cause of Hazoret the Fervent and Eternal Scourge blocking the Death's Shadow and Relic of Progenitus keeping the Goyfs at bay, with Hazoret swinging in + discard land for the last damage.
He even had to Thoughtseize my Obliterate (next turn I had enough mana to cast, with Hazoret and Chandra on the field.
Match 2 Mulligan to 5 and screwed on 2 lands. Match 3 only 2 lands and did not see the third till turn 6.
In: 3x Molten Rain, 1x Blood Moon
Out: 3x Anger of the Gods 1x Stormbreath Dragon
Round 2
2:1 vs Storm.
Match 1 he went for Empty the Warrens, Anger of the Gods seals the deal.
Match 2 I had T1 Relic and T2 Dragon's Claw, he goes off with EoT Gift's Ungiven and then managed to storm in his round for around... his whole deck when I was on 36Life. Match 3 I had T1 Grafdigger's Cage and always Bolt/Skred for Baral/Goblin.
Easy play with so much hate in the board.
In: 2x Grafdigger's Cage, 3x Ratchet Bomb
Out: 3x Blood Moon, 2x Stormbreath Dragon
Round 3
2:0 vs Elves
Match 1 he took me down to 3 Life after I dropped a Blood Moon (for Temple Garden, Dryad Arbor, Cavern of Souls, Murmuring Bosk) and he overcommited to the board, I finally played Anger of the Gods and Koth of the Hammer went Nuts with his Ultimate + Bolts/Skreds in my hand to stop the board and Pia and Kiran Nalaar to block the last Elves.
Match 2 T1 Bolt, T2 Mind Stone, T3 Koth+Anger of the Gods, T4 Chandra, .... till I Obliterate for win.
In: 2x Grafdigger's Cage, 3x Ratchet Bomb
Out: 3x Blood Moon, 2x Stormbreath Dragon
Round 4
1:2 vs Burn
Match 1, Nutdraw Burn.
Match 2, Dragon's Claw.
Match 3, Destructive Revelry on Dragon's Claw + Nutdraw.
In: 4x Dragon's Claw, 3x Molten Rain, 1x Blood Moon
Out: 4x Relic of Progenitus, 2x Eternal Scourge, 2x Stormbreath Dragon
Round 5
2:1 vs Jund
Match 1: Screwed on 2 lands.
Match 2: Easy Blood Moon after some interactions betweend Relics stopping the Goyfs and Chandra threatening the win + Stormbreath killing Liliana.
Match 3: T3 Blood Moon.
In: 3x Molten Rain, 1x Blood Moon
Out: 1x Stormbreath Dragon, 3x Anger of the Gods
Round 6
0:2 vs Colorless Tron
Match 1: T3 Chandra, T4 Batterskull, T5 Stormbreath Dragon -> T4 Karn, T5 Reality Smasher, T6 Ugin, T7 Endbringer...
Match 2: Both Mulligan to 5, Blood Moon resolves, no Gas online, he wents to 6Mana dropping Smasher and to 7mana dropping Karn.
In: 3x Molten Rain, 2x Blood Moon, 2x Shattering Spree
Out: 4x Relic of Progenitus, 2x Eternal Scourge, 1x Anger of the Gods
Round 7
2:1 play for Fun vs Jund
Both of our opponents did not show up so we played a round for fun.
Match 1: Blood Moon, he plays Hazoret the Fervent and managed to dump his hand + attacking for lethal when I was flooded - we both laughed so hard... impossible
Match 2: Blood Moon.
Match 3: Blood Moon.
Tl;dr:
- Colorless Tron... so much knowledge about the game is needed to play this deck. NOT.
- Felt in a really bad position vs. Burn although I had 4 Claws with me
- Hazoret the Fervent proven worthy for me
- Obliterate won me around 4 matches last weekend (2 matches on the FNM before) and was never useless
- Still unsure about the landcount, 23 and I was flooded in 15% of my matches, 22 and I was screwed in 20% of my matches.
1
I had most success running Atarka Gobots:
3 Ornithopter
4 Memnite
4 Signal Pest
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Reckless Bushwhacker
4 Goblin Bushwhacker
4 Goblin Guide
4 Legion Loyalist
2 Devastating Summons
3 Atarka's Command
3 Wooded Foothills
3 Bloodstained Mire
4 Copperline Gorge
4 Mountain
3 Stomping Ground
4 Destructive Revelry
3 Genesis Chamber
2 Gut Shot
1 Electrickery
3 Shrapnel Blast
2 Grafdigger's Cage
I'd say there were not many additions in the last year to our beloved little green creatures.
Death's Shadow-Matchup is fun to play.
3
4 Goblin Bushwhacker
4 Legion Loyalist
4 Goblin Guide
2 Bloodsoaked Champion
4 Street Wraith
4 Mishra's Bauble
4 Death's Shadow
4 Bomat Courier
4 Thoughtseize
4 Bloodstained Mire
4 Blood Crypt
4 Wooded Foothills
1 Swamp
1 Mountain
1 Marsh Flats
1 Polluted Delta
1 Arid Mesa
1 Contested War Zone
Loyalist + Death's Shadow, who needs the Piledriver anymore? :'D

You're right, the CMC is always(mostly) what you paid for the spell, means By Force has CMC of R+X and outside the stack just R.
But when chalice of the void on 1 is on the battlefield, By Force and Shattering Spree are nearly the same.
The First Spree is countered (spending R for nothing) and the Copies resolve (X times paying R for X destroyed artifacts).
On the other hand By Force can get countered (lets say by Stubborn Denial) but Shattering Spree can't because there are 5 Sprees and not only 1.
I'd say Shattering Spree is better for 99% of the time.
But when there's a Spellskite on the field or Etched Champion.... -> Vandalblast or Shatterstorm.
1
I would cut down 1 Stormbreath Dragon and ad another Land, basically 1x Scrying Sheets - felt I was often screwed playing only 22Lands, but I guess im alone These days playing 23lands.
Ad Nauseam is a quite mess of a Play... managed to steal some games the days when I had Crumble to Dust with me
- Pithing Needle on "Lightning Storm"
- Blood Moon/Molten Rain
- Assembling a clock real fast :'D
- Artifact Removal and hoping for some luck.
Chandra, Torch of Defiance is a huge Plus for this deck.
She functions as Tread -> Her Ultimate wins.
She funktions as Removal -> 4DMG to your Thought-Knot Seer
She functions as Manafix -> +1, eat my Stormbreath/Godo/Obliterate/Whatever
She functions as "Carddraw" -> +1 oh, heres an removal!
Sideboard always relays on your local meta, I like Ratchet Bomb and Grafdigger's Cage at the Moment, but managed 2-3years playing SkRed without them.
Godo+Batterskull is pretty funny, I Play it sometimes at my LGS for funny rounds, would take out 1-2 Stormbreaths and the Roast?
We can't afford to play many Cards with cmc 5 or higher.
Btw. I love Batterskull Mainboard to swing back vs aggro/burn and theres nothing more beatufil than a 1/1 Thopter equipped with Batterskull... maybe a Stormbreath..
