The delve on that was damn near prohibitive in limited though, and it was B, NOT 1, which is a huge difference

When did I ever say for limited?

Read my posts, I said for constructed. (Post #9 of the thread, last line)

Its draft chaff, I couldn't care less about limited.

Sure, let's ignore the fact that you still have to delve for 6 and each delve makes the next one harder Rolleyes 5/5 for CCC at common will not happen anytime soon.

You are forgetting Pauper is now a sanctioned & supported format. It will happen sooner than you think. Don't settle for crap commons, it lets WotC off the hook.

Why couldn’t it be three +1\+1 counters

Because WotC has to print chaff/filler cards to flush out a set. Frown

The only way that could possibly work is if it were base 0/0, which is much less flexible.

I believe he means it starts as a base 2/2 THEN gets 3 +1/+1 counters. Which still wouldn't be all that powerful, even at common. As the card stands, its chaff for 99% of constructed decks.

You're asking for a colorless 5/5 for 3. Good luck getting that at common.

You can get a 5/5 creature for one mana at common. Gurmag Angler

This mostly free and all-upside in a 20 Plains deck, which is exactly what it's for.

I’m not so sure. Even in 20 plains dec, you expect to have around 3 lands in your first 9 cards. If one of them is this ... then on one of the first three turns of the game you’re not curving out. You only get to spend 5 mana across the first 3 turns, rather than 6.

It may be a cost worth the benefit. But it’s absolutely a relevant cost even in a mono white deck.

I’m mostly curious what the green one will do because thats the one that’ll be most likely to have its fun with ramp and landfetching. I kinda would’ve liked this ability on the green one, for Incubation Druid and Growth-Chamber Guardian.

Agreed. Imagine an opening hand with 2 of these as your only mana sources in a mono W list. Bad news.

Honestly excited for the rest of the cycle.

I am too, but I'm not holding my breath. Probably like something that follows...

Red: Deal 1 damage to any target
    Blue: Scry 1
Green: Search your library for a forest, put it on top of library OR Gain 1 life

I like to see special basic lands at common, just wish they were a bit more useful than what I have seen so far.

Why, yes, I would like to cast a kicked Rite of Replication for only five mana.

Wouldn't you need to have 9 lands on the board to do so?

I certainly like the card, but the land drawback will keep this one in check a bit.

No, you don't. I assume it works like other similar effects. Check As Foretold, for instance. When casting as a spell with an alternate cost, you are allowed to pay additional costs (i.e Kicker) but not other alternative costs. (i.e. Emerge). This should allow you to cast a kicked Rite of Replication for five I'm the same manner.

Nope, land drawback only cares about CMC, which makes this card really good with cards that have expensive kicker effect.

Thanks for the clarification. Looks like fun for those high kicker cost spells. And yes this will be part of some degenerate combo deck in Modern at some point I would imagine.

    Enter tapped isn't an issue

It kind of is though. If it enters tapped you don't get the +1/+1 counter.

All your base are belong to us.

That is a lot of conditions for a measly +1/+1 counter. I know its a common land and its a plains but how about an "put a +1/+1 counter on up to three target creatures". Even abusing that trigger by bouncing it every turn isn't even that good.

Barge In seems like it could be useful in some creature decks. Not sure if Slivers would want to splash red and give it a shot or not.

Makes me want to brew in RG in Modern with Slagwurm Armor and Assault Formation maybe with some mana acceleration in the form of SSG and/or Chancellor of the Tangle thrown in. (Of course it dies to every removal out there.)

T1: Reveal Chancellor of the Tangle or Exile Simian Spirit Guide, Play red source land, Cast Fervent Champion and Slagwurm Armor Equip for free, attack with a 1/7 haste first strike.

T2: (If it survives) Drop G source land, CastAssault Formation swing for 7

Not game winning or maybe even that competitive but sounds like fun nonetheless. Not as quick of course as the Hammer combo out there.

I'm finding it hard to call anyone "wizened" when he/she has melted candlewax and lit candles with that much hair product. His head would go up like a torch. ( Yes I know the effect is to be that of long flowing white hair ala the Merlin trope)

As for the card, its okay I suppose. I expected more out of Merlin.

Brimstone Trebuchet makes me want to brew Knight Tribal and Thermo-Alchemist together.
