These cards, IMO, lend credence to the theory that 'Vanishing' is just a poor translation of 'Fading.' Both Vanish and Fade are very similar in meaning, and it could simply be someone used the wrong word, probably due to confusion over 'Time counters' and 'Fade Counters.'
The abilities are slightly different. A Fading card only disappears during your upkeep. But a Vanishing card disappears the second its last counter goes. This is why Calciderm is Vanishing 4, whereas Blasty was Fading 3.

Now that they've made at least one spell that supports Slivers directly (Hivestone) I think we can also expect a spell that kills all Slivers. It'd be a fine sideboard card...
