I wasn't actually interested in discussing about the Lifegain archetype. I just wanted to make a list of all cube cards which also can gain life. I don't want too much lifegain either, but I like the idea of having some anti-aggro cards here and there.

Hi! I'm opening this thread in order to develop a list of all the cube-playable Lifegain cards.

Here's what i can get from the tip of my tongue:

WHITE: Mardue Woe Reaper; Seeker of the Way; Lone Missionary; Baneslayer Angel; Lyra Dawnbringer; Glory-Bound Initiate; Exalted Angel; Angel of Invention; Fumigate; Gisela, the Broken Blade; Ajani Goldmane
    BLUE: //
BLACK: Liliana, Heretical Healer; Vampire Nighthawk; Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet; Whip of Erebos; Consuming Vapors; Griselbrand; Collective Brutality
    RED: //
GREEN: Courser of Kruphix; Thragtusk; Scavenging Ooze
Multi: Kitchen Finks, Ajani Vengeant, Deathrite Shaman, Soulfire Grand Master, Lightning Helix; Sphinx of the Steel Wind; Huntmaster of the Fells; Siege Rhino; Sorin, Lord of Innistrad; Shambling Vent
Colorless: Umezawa's Jitte; Sword of Light and Shadow; Sword of War and Peace; Batterskull; Wurmcoil Engine

What's missing? (i'll update the list as new suggestions come forward)

Don't cut Thirst for Knowledge as it's good with artifacts. I think Deep Analysis, Repeal, Into the Roil and Waterfront Bouncer can go

Opposition would be a fine cut for it. Card is bonkers, even without a huge amount of support. Control Magic is sweet as well!

If you need it to be a 5CMC creature, maybe Meloku the Clouded Mirror or Bribery? Or Arcane Savant if you want something insane!

I don't need it to be a cc5 creature card. Control magic is ok but i feel it's a bit redundant with Treachery and Shackles kicking around.

    Opposition looks good tho

Hi there! I recently cut Clocknapper from my cube because my playgroup deemed him too boring. Now I have two options:
    1) Cut him for another blue card
    2) Cut him and a black card to put Phyrexian Metamorph and Dismember in their colored sections, thus adding 2 colorless/artifacts cards to the cube (one would be Crucible of Worlds, not sure about the second tho). Yeah, I could just move Phyrexian Metamorph, but I would like her and Dismember to be treated the same way.
For case #1: Do you see any mandatory blue card that my list is missing?
For case #2: Which black card would you cut? Also, which colorless card would you play?

    Here's the list.

    As it's worded i'd say

    -Yes
-Not with just Lethal Vapors, maybe with something else (but I have no ideas atm)

Nice to see it, hate to see it at Mythic.

If any environment would have allowed this to be a rare and not be completely unanswerable, it would have been this one.
As a limited player, I saw the title and went "yeah ok, that's a card that actually has to be a mythic" ... Unlike so many other money mythic, like Doubling Season.

Except, in Battlebond, you have protection from only one of your two opponents. And you attack them jointly and they can block you individually. So the opponent you didn’t choose can block you, making this card less than broken in Battlebond. I’m not seeing why it’s a mythic honestly. I guess they didn’t want too many floating around in the Limited environment.

    Except!

It was first printed as Mythic, in a supplemental set, that was also a multi-player format. Soooo... Mad cuz no reason?

Be a different story if it was rarity shifted, like DS.

    It was a rare actually

No love for this? Or 1 HP and 7 cards is not enough to actually reverse the game? Probably gives its best in combo decks tho.

If I had to only run elspeth's sun champion or gideon jura, I'd choose elspeth, but it's close... I could be biased as I lost multiple games over the past couple cubes to elspeth in frustrating fashion heh.

I'd play them both over sun titan if that's an option Smile That I do not think is close.

Yeah that's an option actually but i don't think i'll cut the Titan. Sun Titan is not played much, but I respect his role as a value machine-gun and I want value players to have that option. On the other hand i feel like Elspeth is less and less needed in a deck where you can just slam a Titan. Or a Wurmcoil. Or a Consecrated Sphinx. Or an Upheaval.

Also i noticed that Aggro became quite strong in my environment lately, and i think Gideon can be a good answer to that.

Small cube question: Is Gideon Jura better than Elspeth, Sun's Champion?

Referring to my list ( http://www.cubetutor.com/viewcube/79054 ), would you swap Abrade with Fiery Confluence? I like Abrade cuz it's low cc and instant, but Fiery Confluence is just so versatile (even if i like it a bit less since it can't hit walkers anymore)

    This or that: Simic

I love the color pair, but I feel like the actual Simic cards are underwhelming. I run 3 for each guild in my 360 unpowered.

Nissa, Steward of Elements is great. I love her. I think she's easily the best card in the guild and I really love that she can close a game out of nowhere.

Edric, Spymaster of Trest seems great. Everyone says he's great. But I never see him put in much work. I do promote Elf synergy so I'm glad to keep him around, but he doesn't excite me.

Rashmi, Eternities Crafter is the 3rd card I run. I like it because it's a natural card advantage engine and being an Elf never hurts.

I'd like to try some other things in the color, like Hadana's Climb or Simic Sky Swallower. Hadana's would make for some fun moments and it needs to be answered. Sky Swallower is a nice Natural Order target and a good finisher in a control deck.

There's old classics, like Trygon Predator and Mystic Snake (which I've always thought is overrated since you need to hold up 4 mana), Coiling Oracle, and my personal favorite Simic card, Shardless Agent which I don't think is good enough. I'm a bit excited about the new kid on the block, Tatyova, Benthic Druid.

Did I leave anything out? What is your current ranking for Simic? What 3 would you run in my 360 unpowered cube? http://www.cubetutor.com/viewcurve/77160

I think i’d go with Edric/Shardless/Nissa. Don’t underestimate the value Shardless can bring to the board (Shardless into ramp, Shardless into removal and Shardless into second blocker vs aggro deck were the most common scenarios in my experience with the card). Edric is just OP and Nissa is an overall good card (not stellar, but she can stand the 3rd slot). If you want i think u can replace Nossa with Mystic Snake. I would not play Trygon Predator in unpowered (it’a still good but i like having less linear cards on my multicolor slots if possible)

That's a really hard list to order, IMO.

Edit: Is Basalt Monolith out of the running for this list? It's quite good...

I actually never considered Basalt Monolith. Where would you place it? My cube is 200 cards and i’m playing the top 4 of that list + Thran Dynamo (which i’ll try to swap with Chalice)

How do you rank these mana rocks?
    -Mind Stone
    -Coldsteel Heart
    -Everflowing Chalice
    -Guardian Idol
    -Worn Powerstone
    -Coalition Relic
    -Thran Dynamo
    -Hedron Archive
    -Gilded Lotus

Kor Skyfisher is a good card because it makes you virtually drop a land when you wouldn't drop any (which is important in aggro, if you have no land on turn 3 you can play skyfisher, bounce a land and play it again), because you can retrigger an ETB (aside from pure value ETBs, you can redirect a Phyrexian Revoker, a Treachery, a Clone or an Oblivion Ring, to only mention some) and because it's a freakin' 2/3 flying for 2. I often find the bounce thing to be a feature more than a disadvantage.
