how about this instead...
Elder Dragon Compendium6
Legendary Artifact
Whenever you draw a card, each opponent exiles the top card of his or her library.
You may play cards exiled by Elder Dragon Compendium.
Shadowfalls
Legendary Land t: Add G, U or B to your mana pool.
Cycling GUB The dark waters of Shadowfalls are said to have the power to resurrect the body... or destroy the soul.
@PanchoPonce: "... exile target creature, then return it to the battlefield under its owner's control." in Magic, his and her only ever refers to players. in this case, though you mention the 'owners', the actual antecedent to your pronoun is the exiled creature. and in Magic, creatures are always its, not he and she's.
DeusofCalamity – Unwise Decision
I get it. But this effect is usually in white, where I think it should stay.
Life Weaver – Wisdom of Our Elders
Meh. Curiosity mostly does this, without creating an effect that players have to remember exists. Still, a good way to show the creature “learning.”
Megiddo – Crackshot Apprentice
Another meh. A balanced card that won’t do much.
Nemo Starem – The Wise One
Strong, interesting card. I don’t think the scrying drawback is enough to justify 2 cards just for tapping. Should have had a cost of at least one U. Legendary helps, but the Shroud is too much and there’s no flavor reason for it. The flavor quote is marvelous though!
Summon Legend – Wise Guise
Seriously, what??! Part of being successful in these contests is making cards that make some immediate sense. Sorry but not only do I not get it, I don’t really want to get it. Your flavor text is interesting, I’ll give you that, but I can’t see how it relates to your card except in a very tangential way.
Ixius – Power of the Wise
Biggest problem with this card is that there’s hardly any reason to use its standard ability. Thus, this would have been better as an enchantment with cycling. What it does when it’s suspended is so strong, it’s unfair to leave your opponents with so few ways of dealing with it. Again, what seems overcomplicated on a suspended card would have been just fine on an enchantment.
JonFuryZacharias – Wisdom of the Grave
Okay, first you submitted an overcosted Telepathy. Then this. Brokey McBroken. This kind of effect is bad enough once, but being able to do it in multiples is sick and wrong. I like the idea of the dead having a wisdom based on hindsight, but you do not apply this flavor in the abilities. Would have been better to have the hindsight ability be able to pull from the grave similar to flashback.
bloodyspasm – Nyrril, the Wise Necromancer
Unfortunately, your edit of this card left out some key rules text and I don’t really know what you intended.
CrimsonCrossfire – Unwise Decision
I get it. I like it. But is it fair? No. Not really. A 4 card, 4 life swing for 4cc is too much, even if it sometimes cost you 7cc. because there’s black in the cc, I would have kept the discard/life loss, but dropped the card/life gain since the blue is already represented in the counterspell ability. I do like the alternate cost clause. The flavor text doesn’t really work.
mirrislegend – {no entry}
You should have entered. Every judge is different. I, for example, think that the card you felt ‘couldn’t be topped’ was one of the weaker cards submitted since it was a near exact black version of an already printed white card.
The Motley Fool – Noble Wisent
Yay for using ‘wise’ in an atypical way. You were ‘wise’ enough to guess my intentions there I think this card should be “put onto the battlefield when ” instead of “cast… without…” then just add an “if you do, draw a card.” and it’d be a lot cleaner template. I like the card though.
drozdroz – Goblin Pilferer
cute. I like the flavor text. Should have been: costed 2R, no haste, and 2/1.
fasciron – Wise Ass
unglued or not, this is a fun card. And balanced. I think you were right to lower the rewards since you’re playing a card you know you have. I would have it as a ‘nonland card’ though cuz land’s too easy to make happen. Also, thinking about it, wouldn’t it have been more fun to look at your opponent’s hand during their upkeep and guess what they will play during their turn? Adds more tension than the way you have it now. 2nd place
swish – Esteem of the Wise
brilliant card. Elegant, expressive, balanced. You win.
