How do you properly deal playing against creatureless control decks? Seems like it blanks or weakens a lot of cards like Searing Blaze and most of your sideboard.

The only Creatureless control deck that is relevant is probably lantern control. In that case, you take out blazes and any card you don't want for artifact hate out of the board like revelry or smash.

Fair point, would you bring in Volanic Fallout against very hard control decks? I know 3 mana for two damage is pretty bad, but can't be countered can help squeeze out last points of damage.

I have a single Exquisite Firecraft in the board for any U/X/X variants I run into. I also save my crack effects for timely reinforcements and such that can come out of U/W. Volcanic fallout isn't terrible to side in and I'd probably board it in and board out searing blazes.

What do you guys think of the new primer? Is there anything I missed that you would like me to add?

Keep in mind it is a Competitive Tier 1 primer so I wont be adding mono-red, Jund or Mardu lists to the OP as they typically do not make high place finishes.

In the sideboard section I would put in Exquisite Firecraft. It's won me games out of the board against U/W control and Grixis Control at SCG events as a one of. I don't know if you've had any results with but its a good card to keep in mind if you have a control heavy meta.

Until more hype cards come out there really isn't anything to discuss. That is why this argument is being rehashed. Burn had no new additions from BFZ so people are trying to "upgrade" their decks without having any viable upgrades available. Most Burn lists have the same central cards and all that differs is 5-10 cards. Burn is all about optimization but most lists are completely optimal at this point and the only thing that should make a burn deck change drastically is the meta and new cards.

@Nutcase21. Go to google, type in V2.Untap.in

It's a free program that lets people build decks and play online, similar to MTGO but without having to spend money. Il add you once you make your account, and we can play your Burn vs Mine. Or better yet, I'll play any deck you wish against your version of Burn, then I challenge you to try without Nacatls.

You wont want to go back to Nacatl after testing the differences extensively, I guarantee it.

I just signed up for that site... I went to double bolt a tapped out blue player in a lobby labeled modern and he played 2 mental misstep...

It's better to ask people in chat if they want to play a game of modern rather than joining a random lobby. Nothing like this has happened to me before but it doesnt surprise me. Just ask in chat if people want to play modern, then you can create or join their game; there shouldnt be any issues, people seem to play by the rules for the most part on that site.

He was playing all modern legal cards though so I was just confused

how do you guys feel playing with 20 lands, instead of the conventional 19 and lesser shocked lands?
I'm testing the new build from Atlanta with 12 fetches, 2 stomping, 2 foundry and 4 mountains. so far so good.
    [/quote]

I play 12 fetches, 2 stomping grounds, 3 foundry, and 3 mountain. I play one shard volley to justify in my mind my 20 lands even though I'm sure it means nothing and I'm just insane. I always used to have land light hands in my 19 land version so 20 lands it is ;).

We are not playing blue so snapcaster is again just a great card and not an alternative. And if we are going to say that creatures dealing damage before getting bolted as said by elconquistador, i do not think grim lavamancer is any better then nacatl. And i am not saying Nacatl is a must have, you are entitle to your opinion.
The reason i am substituted swiftspear for nacatl is because theres no other burn deck atm at my LGS, and 1 good point about nacatl is it can go against kor firewalker, and i feel its a bigger beatdown as compared to swiftspear. I will change to swiftspear in a heartbeat when i see a burn pops up.
I think you missed my point on the snapcaster thing. Maybe if I said siege rhino or tarmogoyf? What I'm trying to say is that burn wants every turn to proactively effect and change a board state but playing a creature without haste or doesn't have a cost to your opponent to remove(such as eidolon) isn't what we want to do. Nacatyl feels like a waste to me if you pain yourself for 2-6 with the possibility of getting no damage across. I don't think we would even play snapcaster if we were in blue. Sometimes the deck can't get enough mana to make snapcaster good enough.

You do not come and tell me that my argument is "NONSENSE" , and give me a fallacy alternative. Such fallacies may seem to support your argument but its still a fallacy. If affinity plays colourless lands then hey they should play eldrazi.
You are already going with the "if grim lavamancer sticks it will deal good damage" and likewise i am going with "if nacatl sticks it will deal good damage". Nacatl got banned before cause IT IS devastating. Saying that its a bad card is just misleading.

Also i can choose cast my spells on turn 2 at EOT of opponent wiith nacatl. I do not necessary have to do a full blown 9 damage, cause i have a CHOICE of doing it on EOT of opponent...

If you dont cast any spells on turn 2 and decide to cast it on EOT, swiftspear is just going to deal a meaasly 1 damage. If you cant see this i think you are the one who is nonsense.
I don't think he is saying nacatl is a bad card. The card is great as a card but then again so is snapcaster mage. What I'm saying is that not every great card can go into all decks. Nacatl is great in a beat down deck with loam lions and kird apes with a small burn package to deal with creatures like bolt/helix/ or even path.
And on the idea of "if nacatl sticks its like if lavamancer sticks." I think that logic is a little flawed. If nacatyl sticks you have to go through attack phases which can get tricky if you are playing against a deck that can provide blockers such as jund or any creature deck so nacatyl's damage can be a total of zero while haste creatures early get in the minimal of 1-2 damage that are usually irrelevant but can sometimes be the necessary amount to clutch a win. While grim lavamancer can't be blocked. It's a constant recurring 2 damage each turn and is great when you occasionally need to pint the damage at small creatures in order to stay alive like infect or killing mana dorks in abzan or jund. But that's just how I look at it.

Kommand and Crackling Doom seem like the better options, but that's not really what burn wants to be doing.

What about Jund burn? You get the good green sideboard cards, but lose Boros Charm, Firewalker, and white sideboard stuff.
It seems real hard to cut white and lose one of our best cards being Boros Charm including sideboard tech like firewalker, path to exile, and possibly helix. I personally don't like helix but others do.

The thing is, goblin guide has the potential to be better than vexing devil. let's say they have a bolt or path for our turn one devil or guide but we are on the play. With guide we get 2 damage in and we get information on what deck they are playing that might be relevant. With devil, he sits there until their turn to bolt/path it w/o the devil doing anything but at least the goblin played the role of a shock unlike the devil. Now let's say that our devil/goblin is uncontested for 2-3 turns. The guide will get in a minimum of 4 damage and so will the devil but the guide stays on board and the devil is just fuel for lavamancer but it doesn't matter since you shouldn't be activating lavamancer that early ideally. In the end, we run guide because devil is just worse than goblin guide no matter if they hit a land or not.
