Agreed. I wasn't saying it's good as a general SB card, but if you for some reason know you are going to say a large number of mirrors, it may be worth it.
I actually tried the Cryptic Command builds when I first picked up the deck since the card was the reason I wanted to play modern at all and the textless ones have a merfolk hand XD. It works if you include Nykthos, but just makes everything else seem so clunky.
I won so many tournaments with 20 land that 19 was never in contention. No reason to change what works. I could see myself side out a land against Path decks, for obv reasons. The best Merfolk results in Modern were with 20 lands, someone corrects me if I am wrong (all GP top8, all RPtq (except Greece) and Wmcq wins...).
It is funny that my Legacy Merfolk has 21 lands without 4-drops and with free spells, so that makes me even less inclined to play 19 in Modern.
Heyyyyy, maybe that means Path should be our secret tech for the mirror match
I'm liking Nikachu's thinking that the 20th land is actually more of a spell, so a Tec-Edge or Ghost Quarter main deck is not a bad idea, especially if you are on 8Seas/mana denial. Obvious Tec-Edge is better in that case.
Refreshing myself on the SB/land discussion we were having a page or two back, and another thought dawned on me: How do we feel about the U/X filter lands? Specifically U/W and U/B?
They get around the problems of ETB tapped lands like Seachrome Coast, doesn't reveal any information to our OP (as someone mentioned as a small concern), and the U/B one can help with Dismembers as some people would like without using Darkslick Shores or Watery Graves.
Is the fact that you need to have another U source too big of a detriment to their usefulness?
Yeah. That's why I'm more disappointed in my own ineptitude as opposed to being legitimately pissed off at myself about it. It could have been MUCH worse.
Nope. Last one was shipped today. I went to check the tracking on all of them and that's when I noticed Thankfully the person at the campus mailroom remembers me, so I think I'll be able to either have them forward to me from there (something they don't usually do), or if worse comes to worse, I can make the two hour trek up there to get them the day before.
*sigh* ordered
1x Cursecatcher
3x Silvergill Adept
4x Merrow Reejerey
1x Lord of Atlantis
on eBay to finish my deck off for GP Pittsburgh in two weeks... forgetting that my default shipping address was still listed as my university address that I graduated from back in May -_-
After watching Nikachu's video, I'm wondering: If, for whatever reason, someone wanted to cut 4x Cursecatchers from the list, what other cards could slot in to fill those holes? Not necessarily replacement EFFECTS, mind you. Phantasmal Images? More disruption?
Ok, GP Pittsburgh is coming up in 3 weeks, and I decided to sleeve up my old, aquatic friends again. I'm not really sure what the meta is going to look like, so against an open field, I am thinking I will take something close to this:
Main deck is fairly stock. I have 2x Remand, but it can easily be Spell Pierce or something similar. Or possibly two other Snags. The sideboard is the main thing I am having trouble with.
Also, Is Echoing Truth MB-able? I remember there was some discussion on the card a page or two ago, and I really like the card as a more versatile spell than Vapor Snag, so I have been considering swapping them out. The extra mana though...
I'm also all for unconventional inclusions, but like a lot of them, Grimoire Theif always fell short and was removed for other more useful 'folk in my decks.
Anyone have a rough estimate of when the last time a good discussion on the 8 Seas version came up in the thread? I am intrigued by it and would like to go back and check out the discussion on it.

Though I will point out that Remand does not work on Jace's pseudo-flashback like it does on actual flashback.
