but (almost) no one is really playing it

I think the over 300 players in the GP London Pauper Side event would beg to differ. http://epicstream.com/news/302-MTG-Players-of-The-Grand-Prix-London-Pauper-Event-Just-Gave-A-Round-of-Applause-To-The-Professor

I hope it sticks around for sure. CFB says they're going to have side events for it at every GP now. Hell the London side event had over 300 players. The demand is there for the format. It's one of my top 3 favorite formats to play.

I think the big question is if wizards will support it in more than just name and actually print the commons in demand.

Probably. I mean, masters sets could make this really easy to do. We already got a pyroblast reprint with Eternal Masters, not that one was really needed, some of the tamer commons could slip into new standard sets, and those that can't could just end up as draft chaff in modern, eternal, and iconic masters sets with few exceptions for those I think 16 cards that are pauper legal but on the reserved list (uncommon in paper and therefore reserved list but made common in vintage masters and other online sets which for the most part determine pauper legality since it began as an online format)

I don't think I've ever opened a box that had a foil basic, until I cracked an island in my Unstable box.

I play lantern as my pet deck, so I usually get a lot of obnoxious opponents. The one that mostly stands out for me was against a Bogles player (basically a bye for lantern most of the time). Beat him in 2, after having to struggle to pull them out thanks to maindeck leylines. Some super janky plays got me there in the end. Bogles player was visibly unhappy, and halfway through game 2 just picked up his cards and said he'd rather just give me the round so he'd have time for a smoke before the next round, then dropped this little gem "You should play a deck that requires some amount of skill to play". From a bogles player. I have nothing against the deck, it's one of my side chick decks. But the deck takes little to no brainpower to pilot most of the time.

Hmm, this seems to be different from where i live, so i have to ask: what is the job of the police in your country?

    Revenue mostly.

ACtually, i don´t think that story makes you look too good. Your daugther handled herself and her opponent pretty well. I would think that is good enough. Instead you "wanted a shot in".

By this, you devalued her good hadling of the situation with your need to protect her. You change your usual behaviour just to get at him, and enjoy your success with it.

While i agree that this guy way a jerk, i belive you are a jerk and a bully, too.

Nice example you set for your daughter.

You may have a point, but seeing a twenty-plus-year-old man treating a kid like that, especially my kid, is one of the quickest ways to set me off. Besides, what did I actually do? I shook his hand, asked him how his previous round went, gushed about my kid, and let him take back a Nature's Claim on a redundant Everflowing Chalice when he had just watched me tutor for half of my two-artifact combo. My behavior made him uncomfortable because of his knowledge that he had done something wrong. Had he treated her decently, or been an autistic with limited social skills, he would have found me, at best, friendly or, at worst, mildly annoying. But he chose to be an a__ and knew it, and that's why he was uncomfortable. Besides, with a little stronger conscience, the guy would have gone to my daughter after the match to apologize, rather than to the judge to gripe.

I think you handled this just fine. Your daughter did well. Sounds like the other player was on lantern? That kind of guy gives us a bad name.

To each their own I suppose. I only have 2 opals so I'm running 2 jars in their place. I prefer to not get land flooded, especially since I'm running Padeem.

You could run Buried Ruin instead of Academy Ruins. It's not as good as it's a one time use. Instead of Opals you could use mainboard welding jar. When I first build the deck I was trying to keep pretty budget too. I ran Mirrodin's Core instead of Glimmervoid, but wiht Spire of industry out if you're replacing glimmervoids with anything then I would run a playset of spire in addition to your replacement.

What do people make of the new Ixalan cards? See anything with potential for Lantern? I was thinking Search for Azcanta seemed interesting, but maybe it would be too slow and a bit redundant.

I've seen a couple guys, including Kanister, on the facebook group brewing up a heavy blue (basically mono-blue but splash for Stirrings/Thoughtseize) version with Azcanta and Whir. Mechanized Production mainboard too. Looked kinda neat.

Hey guys! Quick question, how many of you are running Ghirapur as a win condition? I have been playing it as a one of in the mainboard for a few months now and I have to say that it is consistently underperforming for me.. I mean there have been several matches where things worked out and it was quicker to kill them with that then by mill, but I don't like that it can't be tutored for and that in your opening hand it is almost a dead card..

I also don't know what would be a considerable replacement.. I was thinking of just adding a third collective company in it's place since it has so much utility in it's modes and it's discard outlet to get Ensnaring Bridge to 0. Ultimately, what I'm asking is: Is everyone here going entirely mill or how do you like to win with the deck? Is Pyrite Spellbomb still a thing? lol

I'm still running Aether Grid as a mainboard 1 of, never been unhappy to draw it. Best case it saves my rear from a Bird/Heirarch swinging under bridge (yes I know brutality does this too) worst case it's a way for me to close the game out faster than the mill lock usually and give me some breathing room in games 2 and 3. I still run the infernal tutor build so I have a way to tutor for it, plus the mainboard Noxious Revival to get it back if I mill it (had one interaction where I discarded it to brutality to get empty handed, then infernal tutored for revival to get it back and play it later). I don't see myself cutting it any time soon. The only time I usually board it out is if I'm expecting Leyline or a really long, grindy game, then I take it out and board in Mech Production.

  • posted a message on How do you feel about opponents doing take backs
I don't do takebacks, even at FNM. Some people thought I was just being a dick but they learned that the sole reason I play FNM is for PTQ/Open/GP prep, so I play FNM like I'm at a big event. Only time I really do takebacks is kitchen table with my brother and my wife, especially right now since she's learning to play a new EDH deck.

Your argument is you didn't buy something early enough and you want the company to break its promise to its customers that apparently have been around much longer than you have as customers?

The reserved list was first created in 1996. There are a lot of players, probably a majority if we're being honest as I don't know the exact statistics, that weren't even born yet when that happened. Really hard to buy something when you don't exist. The reserved list should never have been put in place to begin with, and its repeal is long overdue.

That's true, though I really didn't adjust my land count for lack of canopies. Just replaced the canopies with another playset of fetches. May replace a couple of those with one more of each basic though.

    Went 2-2 Friday.

Round 1: Boros Burn 2-0. This girl was very inexperienced with the deck, this should have gone to game 3. It would have if she had timed her atarka's command correctly to stop me from gaining life in combat instead of casting it on my end step. Out: 3 spider Umbra. In: 3 leyline of sanctity

Round 2: Double Moon walkers 1-2. Game 1 I kept a slow hand and was punished for it as he soon flooded the board with elspeth tokens. Game 2 I dropped a turn 2 suppression field and was able to take it easily from there. Game 3 came down to me not bringing in enough artifact/enchantment hate and I lost to double worship plus Sylvan Caryatid as I'd already used up one seal on an Ensnaring Bridge. In: 1x Suppresion Field, 1x pithing needle, 2x Seal of Primordium (for the blood moons),1 Ghostly Prison, 1 Gaddock Teeg. Out: 2 sram, 4 Path.

Round 3: Ad Nauseum 0-2. Game 1 he dropped solemnity plus unlife, and with no enchantment hate mainboard that was game. Game 2, I needled lightning storm but he just went off with his naturally drawn lab maniac. In: 1 Pithing Needle, 1 Gaddock Teeg, 1 Suppression Field, 3 leyline. Out: 4 spider umbra, 2 path.

Round 4: Abzan +1/+1 counters. Guy was super new and the deck wasn't an optimal build. Game 1 he was stuck on 2 lands and I ran him over. Game 2 as a little closer only in that he actually cast a few creatures, but I had paths at the ready. This matchup was a bloodbath. Didn't sideboard for this one at all.

I'm at 19 lands, including 1 Arbor. It's working pretty well so far, usually if I'm mulling it's due to not having a creature as opposed to not having any lands. This is my current list, for those that were interested. The sideboard works pretty well for my meta.

I'll try to post the list this evening. Left right after I posted that for vacation and just realized I didn't bring the deck with me. I'll try to post what I remember, since the sideboard was kinda screwy.

Also glad I'm not the only one running snow basics. I just picked up some Japanese P3K lands and was going to use those but then found out I didn't have any plains so I stuck with my snows.
