Dusted out the old mono-g stompy as a brief diversion from Tron and Lantern and went 3-1. Just replaced the balots with champions and a rhonas for a tusker.
Match 1 Slivers
Game one had me at 17 and him at 4 after my aggressive start. Then he coco'd into a flying+lord and cracked back for lethal. Ouch.
2 and 3 went my way with double hexproof pump spells to seal it against a necrotic sliver.
Match 2 GW Value
Went 2-1, crushed through with rancor and aspect on the games I won, got buried in value behind courser, tracker, and KotR the game I lost.
Match 3 GW Value
Practically the same deck but aggressive ghost quartering himself made his KoTRs grow bigger than my stuff very quickly, could not setup profitable attacks. Beat him down G2 and G3 was more of the same with a path to exile in his hand (seen from courser a turn before) made attacking super awkward while he just built up a powerful board against me. More Courser, Tracker, KotR value that you really have to beat down quickly.
Match 4 5c Humans
2-0, Geists and Rancors blew him away. Champion of the Parish didn't get going fast enough to race my dudes and kicked vines pushed me through the finish line.
Fun night of beating folks down and dodging removal.decs. Steel Leaf Champion is the real deal. Strap a rancor on that dude and things get real serious real quick.
I still like treetop village despite all the ghost quarters I saw; it made the difference in one of my games against GW when they didn't have a quarter. Didn't see Rhonas all night but that's fine, I'm sure he'll be sweet when he lands. I kind of missed Nature's Way out of the side but dismembers are probably better. <shrug>
My thoughts are I'd like to not auto-lose against Affinity if I can help it.
I'd rather try Bontu's Last Reckoning as a board wipe than a 2 card combo that takes an extra turn to start spinning and does absolutely nothing against Robots.
Burn, Humans, Storm, Ad Nauseam, Hollow One, Tron will all also just laugh at Phyrexian Scriptures.
Last Laugh was a card I wasn't sure about until I actually played it and watched it murder everything. There is a dark power in the card that is not obvious just by reading it.
I'm liking Evra, Halcyon Witness for having an ability that we haven't really seen before. And the ability to one shot someone as long as you're at 21 or higher life, then immediately get that life back sounds like you don't have to do much except protect her and give her some evasion. The rest of the deck can be focused on value and card advantage, such as they are in mono-white.
I'm also keen on Traxos, Scourge of Kroog. Probably not as good of a colorless commander as a titan, but it has a lot going for it for a few different strategies. You don't even have to worry about putting in a bunch of untap effects since your own artifacts will untap him just for casting them. I think I'll include as many cost reducers as I can and try to create some kind of loop with ancestral statue or junk diver/myr retriever just have to figure out what the best tap outlet for Traxos is. Viridian longbow? Hair-strung Koto?
As well as Darksteel Plate and Teferi's Protection and about 10 other ways to protect her. Other than that I don't know if you really need a lot of support cards. She looks like she can win the game all by herself. Ramp, protection, Evra, and the best mono-white card advantage engine you can muster.
603.7d If a spell creates a delayed triggered ability, the source of that delayed triggered ability is that spell. The controller of that delayed triggered ability is the player who controlled that spell as it resolved.
To be honest I'm not sure. I can't find a definition of what exactly "causes" means. Yes, the delayed triggered ability created by Spiritualize isn't the white spell itself, but isn't the spell still the source of the cause?
I don't know; I'm not that scared of BBE. We still can control the top of their library so the chance of it lucking them into a KCommand isn't high unless they side out all of their <3 CMC spells. Also, thoughtseize that shiet. I am probably going to swap an Opal for or a Jar tho.
As a G/x Tron player, I have no idea why I should care about decks durdling with Field of Ruin and JTMS. Sure, if they curve directly into that and a couple of negates/ceremonious rejections I'm going to have a hard time, but most of the time what I'm doing is just way more powerful than what they're doing. And Pithing Needle cleanly and efficiently answers just about everything they're trying to do. I'm honestly looking forward to a meta with Jace and BBE in it, except to face all the combo decks that will appear to wreck them.
Any suggestions for a good deck that goes underneath? Preferably a synergistic one.
LSV says that Tron is going to be in a bad spot thanks to JTMS due to all the aggressive linear strategies that will appear to combat Jace....
And yet, Urza's lands are exactly where I want to be against a deck trying to play Jace unless I'm empty handed and playing to the top of my deck. Also, where I want to be against Jund, BBE or no. Seems like Tron is a no-brainer in this meta. I'll probably play Lantern anyway.
Couldn't agree more. <gack>

I'd say 5c humans fits that bill nicely.

Whomever gets one kind of mill rock then pithing/mills the opponent off the other kind wins. Post-board a Leyline + pyxis/bell wins.
