Wins through beats and burning the opponent out mostly, but has the option of the Twin combo on turn 3. I think what it's lacking is a 4 drop that it wants to resolve on it's own turn. If only there were a planeswalker or something that costs 4 mana and takes over the game.... I don't know if Cobra is good yet, but it beats hard. I think without Jace, it might not be worth it to run Cobra. However Mulldrifter is going to have to do right now. I might want Grim Lavamancer instead of Bolts. I might also cut the bolts for some bombs like Inferno Titan or something big.
reveillark is unneccessary, and figure is a pretty dodgy win condition. maybe just have a 1-off emrakul?
the synergy between weathered wayfarer + path is nice
would splashing blue for compulsive research, remand, and azorious signet be better? without card draw the deck seems pretty clunky. rght now the deck just has eleven 1-for-1 removal spells with no card draw.
I'm thinking that too, but I'm unsure as to what blue suite is optimal here. I think figure was considered because it can be recurred with Proc and fetched with Ranger.
Maybe Ensnaring Bridge in the sideboard? I mean you have a lot of cards in your hand so it's not good against aggro but at least it keeps big gray squids from attacking you...
Right now, I don't see any reason whatsoever to run graveyard hate in Modern. Maybe that will change in the future, but as it is I don't think we need to fear it yet.
Whoops. I had written this thing about how the cycle lands could replace Dakmor Salvage, then deleted it because I realized they weren't in the format, but I didn't delete the part about Salvage. It's a solid card.
At least early in the format, when EVERYONE is either playing Zoo or Vial-based decks, Chalice is probably needed main. It can be relegated to the side as we see fit.
Feaor, I don't think the loss of the cycle lands hurts us badly enough to force a 4-color manabase, though it does hurt and though both KOTR and Horizon are great. Perhaps dropping black is a good idea - we lose Dark Confidant and Dakmor, along with some removal, but that's it.
Uh...pooping, you do realize Seismic is one of the deck's main engines? I don't think that Grove honestly can be considered a reliable "wincon."
Azusa isn't overkill. Have you played this in Legacy? It's like dropping two Explorations; completely nuts.
In legacy I've seen several 4c versions with Grove as the only engine do well, and one has won SCG Baltimore. It's easier to get rid of large creatures with Assault though, if toughness is >2 then punishing fire is quite awkward.
Not having Cycling Lands is going to hurt this deck quite a lot, what about going into White for KotR and Horizon Canopy?
Horizon Canopy is actually a great idea, gives us GY hate protection with instant speed draw. I'm not exactly sure how a 4c list would work in modern, so please help me out if you can.
Putting Twin of Mulldrifter isn't too bad either

EDIT: thanks for the merge.
Seems like an interesting idea! Also you can fetch it back with proclamation, and it stops aggro too! I like it!
I think we need some sort of GY shuffling mechanism like Elixir of Immortality
The 12post is a way better engine in modern. Btw I added your primer to the OP.
That's because no one has an idea yet. Let me try (take this with a grain of salt):
4 Tarmogoyf
4 Dark Confidant
3 Countryside Crusher
4 Path to Exile
2 Punishing Fire
2 Maelstrom Pulse
2 Engineered Explosives
1 Smother
1 Worm Harvest
1 Crucible of Worlds
1 Raven's Crime
4 Horizon canopy
3 Grove of the Burnwillows
2 Blood Crypt
2 Stomping Grounds
1 Sacred Foundry
1 Ghost Quarter
1 Buried Ruin
4 Arid Mesa
3 Marsh Flats
2 Mountain
1 Plains
1 Forest
1 Swamp
1 Dakmor Salvage
Ok thanks. I was misinformed. I guess we just accept extirpate, and cut losses against other GY hate.
I guess the white splash is pretty necessary without the cycle lands. Or we run Mikokoro, Center of the Sea.
I'm thinking that too, but I'm unsure as to what blue suite is optimal here. I think figure was considered because it can be recurred with Proc and fetched with Ranger.
Emrakul seems interesting.
Yes, I've added Canopy to cards to consider as an answer to GY hate.
Other alternatives are Absorb Vis, Edge of Autumn, Igneous Pouncer, Molten Frame, Viscera Dragger.
Horizon Canopy is probably more reasonable, but mountaincycling is actually kind of relevant with shocklands.
Cycling avoids split second yes/no?
Meddling Mage is better than the Gargoyle, right? Also you can't path emrakul.
You still get annihilated, thus you sacrifice the Halo.
Good point. What do you think is a good way of doing that? Running blue?
