Kinda surprised by the amount of people who would prefer non-foils over foils, especially for cards meant for EDH

What you're experiencing is called the Vocal Minority Effect. In reality, a tiny portion of players would have a problem with these foils. People tend to complain louder and sooner than they praise. Most people would see this info and say, "okay, cool," without taking the time to make a post. In general, these being foil will be appreciated.
    Yes and No.

I dislike foils myself because, well, I dislike them. I don't like the sheen, foils are stupidly expensive and they throw off the dynamic/feel/look of my cards when I play them. So, for me, the idea of a foil-only Commander isn't a welcome one. It certainly isn't the end of the world, and I'll still gladly play them, but it isn't my first preference.

With that said, I fully understand that I'm exactly in that vocal minority. I know a lot of blokes who are absolutely thrilled by this news and that's great. Those people who enjoy their foil-only EDH decks have every right to be happy; the thrill of the hunt and the satisfaction of a full-shined deck brings some people a lot of satisfaction. That's a good thing.

It's simply not my thing. In rare instances only, like my foil Burning Wish or Akroma, Angel of Fury, I'm okay with having some foils. I don't hunt for them or lust after them though, because I just don't care enough. Haha.

Considering it's listed as "100 card deck" and on the next line "4 foil commander" I think that the 4 foils are in addition to the normal version in the deck
I hope so, as I too dislike foil cards except in rare circumstances (such as acquiring black bordered 8/9th Edition cards).

And a sidenote for anyone that has played Shadowrun, dwarf riggers are now a thing in Magic.
That was my first thought too! Elf Technoshamans make the cut too. Kaladesh is looking awesome!

I think that the Masterpiece Series is a really cool idea; alternative art, being thematically tied to a set, and foil copies helps out all those Bling players. I can really understand why that crowd is happy with this release - I'd be too if I was a Blinger!

As a Casual player this Series holds no interest for me; it doesn't help me acquire cards easier & I dislike foil cards except in rare circumstances. Wizards firm policy on reprinting is what has finally convinced me to make the full-on switch to Pauper. Cards are cheap, the play is just as intense and all without having to choose between eating for a day or playing a card game. Heck, playing Pauper means that when/if I do by boosters, all I want is the Commons/Uncommons.

Hmm, now I want to buy a booster box of Kaladesh so that I can pull a foil Mana Vault and just to go my LGS and trade it in for boxes of Common/Uncommon cards... Grin

Who said they're trying to bring burn into standard?
    Just me! Grin

As Standard is the biggest set releases these days I was hoping that they would. As a strictly Casual, Pauper & EDH player I don't care about the state/design of Standard itself, outside of what cards it brings to the table for the Formats I actually play. If Burn isn't in Standard then I'm always disappointed because its my favorite archetype to build for; my inner Red Mage loves to burn all the things!

    Agreed.

Two direct red spells have already been revealed, each had the potential to be good player-damage spells. Each is only creature-damage. If Wizard's wanted to bring Burn into Standard, then they should have started off with a bang; showing off some new tech alongside Torch of Defiance. So far all we've gotten is crumbs, and not particularly tasty crumbs at that. Oh, I'll hold off until all spoilers are a go before I make my final call, but so far Red looks like it's being shafted in this set. Again.

Welding Sparks could have had so much potential within a Red Artifact shell, but now?

This makes makes my inner Red Mage sad... so far I haven't seen anything in Red (Kaladesh) that really interests me. You know, outside of the obvious. Where are the player burn spells? Why is everything creature-damage only? Why does the last few sets feel like Red is getting more and more tame?

No land destruction, and now dialing back direct player damage? Why, Wizard's?! You keep printing Blue Counter, Black Target Destruction, Green Ramp and White Removal! Where is my gawddamned burn spells?!

I know your pain mate, know it well. At the moment I'm checking my phone every half hour for a site selling pre-orders of that beautiful Chandra, Torch of Defiance; I know quite a few multiplayer decks I have that would greatly benefit from her inclusion, including a semi-Storm combo deck I like to run.

I'm a Casual mate myself, so outside of EDH I have zero interest in whether a card will be good for Standard, Modern, etc.. This Chandra scratches my casual itch hard, and yes I am quite pleased by this card. Likely I will try to obtain an extra copy or two so that I can frame/hang one next to my other Chandra memorabilia!

No, she's no JtMS/LotV and those who are making such comparisons have been swept away by the hype train. But she is good, and in Red no less, which will make her a very valuable card and highly desirable. Red too often gets shafted (IMO) by the design team(s) so I'm pumped to see R&D giving Red a bone for a change.

Agreed mate! I may just go out and buy some booster boxes for a change, something I rarely do.

Planeswalkers are often terrible in multiplayer, but I heavily suspect that Chandra, Torch of Defiance will be one of the few cards that break the rules.

Holy ***** Chandra is an A+ planeswalker.
Yes. Buy your playset while their cheap!

I don't think this card will ever be cheap, I bet she starts out at around $40
True enough, which is why I'll buy when their as cheap as they will be. I've been waiting for a good Chandra card for ages - instead I got an amazing Chandra. I am not passing this opportunity up!

Cheers! Your mate knew his stuff and my heart is a flutter. I'm buying a playset the moment I find them being pre-sold!
