Finished 16th without Ezuri and instead ran 2 Throne of the God Pharaoh. You think that's better than Ezuri in the GB builds?
Wow, talk about grinding your opponent. Problem with this list is that you lose some matches that you could've won in combat, the "alpha strike" as they say. You won't have many t3/t4 wins with this though, I think.
How do you sideboard with the Abzan variant? Do you reduce CoCo when you need to side in noncreature spells? Also, I noticed that there are 3 Kitchen Finks in both your GW and GB sideboards. Why?
Played a heads up match to qualify for a local league final today (everyone must be playing standard).
Played against Abzan Which I thought was a good match up.
Game 1: Win easy. New Throne of god seemed pretty good. Although could just be a win more.
Side: + Cameleon + Skite + Champion + selfless spirit - 2x Nettle - Druid - Rec sage.
Game 2: Mulligan to a risky 6. Push's my dork and I fail to find a 3rd land or dork.
Game 3: Mulligan to an OK 5.
Get beaten by push 's and paths and lingering souls.
Just a question, I'm playing abzan with 4 fetches. People have suggested this is not very consistent. Do they mean because you thin your lands by fetching or because you play only 6-8 white sources?
I play Abzan color. One good thing to note is that you have very few whit sources so casting white stuff in your board consistently can be difficult so you should avoid noncreature spells. I personally have no white noncreature spells on my sideboard. I Chord for answers when needed. Black sources for Shaman is fairly consistent if you're running Caverns though. I suggest you playtest a lot so you can have a feel of why/how the colors and sideboarding work.
In my opinion with 4 cavern of souls you can run 3-4 shamans of the pack in a gw/toolbox version without too much problems, the real difference is that you can't run discard spells.
I think shamans of the pack are strong enough to justify running 4 cavern of souls just to be able to hardcast them in addition to fetching for them through Coco and chord
I agree with this dude. I've been running a greedy list of 4 Shamans main and a variety of white/black spells in the side depending on the meta. Here's my landbase:
I switch the number of Blooming Marsh and Razorverge whenever I need to put in Stony Silence in the board. Never had problems casting Shaman due to the abundance of black sources i.e. Caverns and Palaces
Hi guys! Glad to be back after a short hiatus. Can anyone explain to me how we match-up against Grishoalbrand and how the deck works? I can't understand it at all. There's this new guy that runs the deck and is completely stomping our lgs. He has zero(!) losses these past few weeks.
Hey guys! I just Top 8'd a GPT for GP Vancouver. I'm a bit tired so I'll leave the decklist here first.
Rd1: 2-1 vs Boros Burn
Rd2: 1-2 vs Elves
Rd 3: 2-1 vs Infect (all games took 3 turns)
Rd 4: 2-0 vs TitanBreach (he has 3 Clasms and 3 Anger, none appeared lol)
Rd 5: 2-0 vs Abzan Midrange
We split the prizes and gave the dude who will be able to go to GP Vancouver the byes. I was top 2 after the swiss.
Stain the Mind was a metagame call because I thought Ad Naus will be huge (I was wrong). I definitely won't run Heroic Intervention anymore, planning to replace it with another Selfless Spirit. I like my main deck spells. Never really saw Elves of Deep Shadow except for exactly 1 game.
Thoughts on chalice of the void on zero out of the side to deal with the new cheeri0s deck? Could even bring it in for affinity and setting on 1 on turn 2 is fine if we have a cavern in play if we can shut down an opposing deck with it.
Trying to proactively think of outs to the deck. It would allow us to proactively shut them off of the engine if were on the play without sacrificing any speed really.
Not thrilled about it being a non creature, but the idea of witch printkng a chalice on a stick sounds broken in half to me...could you imagine the salt?...the tilt? Erhnm, I digress...
Anyone else brewing outs to the pure steel/sram builds? Supposedly the deck has legs.
Us G/B folk have Thoughtseize and Dismember, the GW/Abzan folk have Eidolon of Rhetoric, Path, Thalia 1 - we should be fine here.
I agree. Maybe Stain the Mind will come in handy for GB too.
Someone top 8d a huge tournament here with Elves. I'm gon a post the list once I get it. I saw some of his matches and he was running Glissa, the Traitor in the side. He said he uses it against Eldrazi and Goyf decks. Saw him chord for it against Reality Smasher. His opponent's face was priceless lol
