While Standard is the driving force of Magic, forging ahead with new innovations and ensuring that new players aren't overwhelmed by a massive card pool and still have a chance to play competitively, casual multiplayer is without doubt the heart and soul of the game.

Pretty much everyone can agree that control decks are Blue, and that they counter stuff. Also, pretty much everyone can agree that they are no fun to play against, and that only mean evil spiteful jerks who don’t want you to enjoy the game play them - the kind of bastards who would rather stop you from playing a spell than play a spell of their own. You know who I’m talking about.

If you make your own decks on anything resembling a regular basis, many of them are probably going to just plain suck. If you're lucky, you catch these in pre-production (you know, when you're playing against yourself) but that isn't always the case. Sometimes the clever, original, lovingly crafted neato-deck that you spent all day putting together is just plain terrible.

Building your own Magic deck isn't easy.
That should be amended, I guess, because pretty much anyone can toss 60 cards together or add some rares to a preconstructed deck. But crafting your own home brewed deck that actually does decent and is still fun to play? Well, that's not always easy.
