Thanks again Jay for providing this journey down memory lane. I had read Moons of Mirrodin and Fifth Dawn, but never read Darksteel Eye, don't know why, I just skipped it and picked up Dawn. This summary def filled in some blanks. My only issue with the story was the five year jump, just not a fan of that plot device.
Now that I'm thinking of it, I wish Bruenna had received a card at some point. She saved Glissa's hide countless times, and she's a capable, resourceful character.
Thanks again and looking forward to Scars and the rise of New Phyrexia.

Mar 28, 2017TearingEons posted a message on The World of Mirrodin I: Moons of MirrodinThanks for writing these up Jay! Mirrodin is one of my favorite planes for many reasons, and this summary fills in some blanks from long ago. Chiefly, the explanation of the gravity shifts moving toward the core definitely helped me picture things. And I remember the plant of the smudge that Memnarch wipes away, and how it instantly incepts him to see the world as imperfect where he saw perfection seconds before. Some did think it was possibly Phyrexian (glistening oil wasn't a term yet), but it was only speculation from those that even read the books. Overall, the Start of Mirrodin's story is fun and cannot wait for the next installments.Posted in: Articles
Also, keep up the good work. Really enjoying the summaries as written from the Phyrexian perspective. And Thanks for doing the history of Phyrexia as well. That was an enjoyable read as well. -

It's always a blast remembering past worlds and seeing tidbits that were missed the first time. For me, this was Dark Discoveries, def a good read!Posted in: Articles
Alara was a world that brought me back to Magic after a couple year hiatus, so it's nice to see it again. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
If she were Green, then yes lol, but she’s a White card, so no. At least we are seeing some of that White limited card draw that MaRo’s earlier color pie article discussed. I was afraid it’d be farther down the pipeline of sets.
Like, how does Odric not have at least one keyword so you’d get a Blood token when you cast him on an empty board?
[Mainly just joking about it, no offense intended toward them or their content, just joking about their previous situation]
Asmor looks fun, and while I hope they print more Food support in Red (currently 0 cards), I wouldn't mind trying her out as a Commander or in Chainer.
It's not that it's a bad card design, it's just that I feel we were expecting either a legendary or something a bit more impactful than a token without evasion. Getting an untapped creature to help deter a crackback is nice, but you already need to work to get your big monsters through since so few have natural evasion. Or rely on the one copy of Serpent of Yawing Depths to be found on time and survive. This ability on a commander would at least have been a build around and give a bit of consistency.
I love Octavia soooo much, the art is great, the abilities are fun, and they're an Elemental Octopus! Plus, there are 8 8's on the card, the last one is tucked into the set count of 081. If the Ward reminder text was on the card, that'd feel more legit, but I'll take it.
Divine Gambit and Reduce to Memory are the two examples of why White does not get the best removal now-a-days. Blue got Ravenform and now Resculpt and Green tends to get the better creatures that out scale Whites curve. Black continues to also get better removal at all rarities as well.
And as for Boros getting graveyard matters abilities, that's def not a bad thing. Boros has been forced into the redzone for far too long and it's great that they expand flavorfully into new design space. Boros just feels like the archeology colors, we've seen this trope with the WR cards in Zendikar: caring about exploring, excavating, finding artifacts, etc. It will feel weird since Boros has largely been one note, but these new designs fit within the scope of the colors and the flavor of the world.
Overall, I think it's good that Creative went with different strategies that still fit within each color pair with this set than just say WR attacks, BG graveyard, WB lifedrain, UG gets everything (jkjkjk), and UR is the only one to care about spells in a magical school world.
