New mono black devoid spell looks great for us. Basically anger of the gods for black. Woot! This set is not failing to please me so far. Just wish fir more processors

would be better if it is 2B or <><>B, though having the exile clause is good enough

Right. Basically drown in sorrow and replace sxry with exile. Awesome for the deck imo. Its an early enabler for processors and an awesome sweeper against aggro. Except zoo

exactly. I find having exile targets for affinity tough as they don't fill their yard with fetches and spells early on, making relic into strangler quite useless

I like Drown in Sorrow post-board against lots of decks in Modern. Does a number on Elves, Affinity, Infect, Boggles, and the like. Because of Urborg, this is one of the few decks in the format that can really play Drown in Sorrow consistently, and it's quite powerful if you can hit it on turn 3 consistently.

i am currently trying out Zealous persecution and it works great on t2, especially catching a rogue steel overseer/signal pest/vault skirge possibly 2 or 3 for 1.will try drown but my initial impression is that it seems a little too slow(earliest t3) once they get their engine on

What do you guys think of transgress the mind instead of iok or ts? Since it helps exile and disrupts the hand I think it may help to change out a few for testing. It's only one mana more.

IoK is only played because of the prevalence of burn/aggro decks that prevent us from running 4 thoughtseize.
I would think a "budget" replacement would very much be duress/despise instead of transgress with me bordering on despise to hit zoo/burn to stabilise

I agree, endless one is pretty good. The whole argument of dropping it because it dies to some jund removal never made sense to me. Sure they can decay it, but the rest of our deck is awesome vs jund. I wouldn't drop a card just to make a good matchup better when the card is just good otherwise. They are not the best but their flexibility is what makes them good.

I'm not ready to drop endless ones until i see something on the level of quality of wasteland strangler spoiled in the upcoming set.

thing is, what are you cutting for endless one?

I kind of wonder how resilient this deck will be in the longer term. What kind of strategies could someone do to break apart the game plan this deck prizes itself on? It's easy to play some games and say it is a winning deck, but the real test of a decks mettle comes from when things aren't going it's way. Wink

I'd say any hate that tron faces would work with us too. The meta isn't unprepared for a "big mana" deck

I think the deck we are the BIGGEST dog against in the format is actually scapeshift. I haven't beat them once, and it hasn't even been particularly close.

seems like this deck has problems dealing with big mana decks (tron/amulet/scapeshift)
Is there any way to deal with these decks besides ghost quarter?

Depends on the matchup. Against Tron, we don't need the gy hate and there aren't many strangler targets (e.g. we don't need early exile as much) so I tend to board out all the relics. Against affinity, where you have a lot of good strangler targets, I tend to leave in 1-2 relic as an additional exile source. Reducing the number means you can potentially draw it early, and play and pop before Stony comes down. This also makes it so that if you draw Stony first you've reduced your chances of drawing a dead card.

if you don't leave relic in, wouldn't it be detrimental to blight herder not having enough processing targets?

For Tron Pithing needle seems really good, as does Mindcensor. I've actually been having a lot of success w/ GQ and and Exteripate[/card/Surgical Extraction. It's not even really card disadvantage because you take out their 4 tron lands. Another option is stony silence out of the board, we probably want this for affinity anyway, and turning off our own relics isn't a huge deal since tron generally doesn't use it's gy as much (barring academy ruins recursion which we still have GQ/Extirpate for) I have only had the chance to play the monoU variant so far but I have found MD GQ to be enough.

curiously, for stony silence, do you board out relics or keep them in?\

I think the deck has a big weakness you land destruction since as you noted it's super reliant on temple and eye. That said I think it's safely going to be a tier 2 deck and could get even more goodies in the coming set

exactly. I wonder how well the deck will fare against splinter twin/burn/zoo on a t3 blood moon

I find B/Red and B/White to the slightly more stable colors, with red's bolts and white's path/lingering souls though with white it plays like a lousy version of BW tokens with a better end game.

Mana base feels shaky in dual colored versions though.

what is the argument for/against 3 or 4 eye of ugin vs 1 or 2 eye of ugin?
