not sure how many modern challenges i need to crush on for people to catch on... takes some learning to know when/how to use it, it gets boarded out often as well... anyways, list will go up top 8 this weeks challenge tomorrow.
went down on grave hate with the list. added hand disruption for more control matches (i assumed) ... butttt jace 100% does not matter to our decks fortunately.
beat:
2x UR jace moon thing
e tron
bushwhacker zoo
burn
2x jeskai control
loss:
g tron (did not see a hollow one both games)
burn (fizzle g3 no presure) top 8
per usual both losses are not bad matches (actually good ones) , but the deck beating itself ( pitching hollow ones, not seeing them, etc.)
recent 5-0 list... pretty stock. this was day of/pre jace unban. Jace isnt a big deal for us, BUT i think with all the blue decks running around it might be a good time to jam 2 cavern of souls in the list... not sure which utility lands to cut though... maybe 1 scavenger ground 1 sea gate? ... idk. thoughts?
Can the rg vengevine chat go to the vengevine primer? There is a primer for that? This is BR “hollow one” or as I like to call it “roulette”
Makes it hard to sift through the info.
Anyone actually tested macabre waltz???
Just did a leage with 0 grave hate SB. Went 4-1. Beat dredge even with their Leyline out. Started to realize we don’t need it really. We can race dredge often. Grixis shadow can be taken down with bgh and push plus going wide... other matches it’s kinda meh. Going to try a list just with faerie macabre Sb later.
if playing jace, i recommend playing T.mages of sorts for blockers... curves pretty well for a non tron hand. untapping with jace and counter magic is legit.
also recommend 3-4 fetches with jace. and F.o.R over tec edge. just to fetch basics. need to cut river of tears, and oboro to play the fetches well.
i played a league with a list that instead of trying to negate card disadvantage, went with it. aka utilizing infernal tutor ... with a small toolbox of cards... it was okay, but slower for sure. We could easily utilize that card or traverse the ulvenwald ... but the question is if we want to...
ive definitely noticed matches getting tougher now that people are more used to the deck and how it "functions" lol
If you haven’t seen or used Jace in legacy. Fetched make it work best. Not sorcery speed shuffle effects. It’s still powerful ether way. I could see a copy in the deck.
Seems like wotc is trying to make midrange good again. Which is good for us though.
I hate mana leak btw. I’d almost rather delay. Ha
Just remember as shok says the deck needs a certain amount of cantrips to function. Remand card draw is important.
Lol. I played a comp leave with that list and it kinda felt bad. Needed counters
I did make a through the breach list too though before I even saw someone mention it! I’ll give it a whirl later.
undervalued cards we can a should play maybe
Search for azcanta ... all ux control lists play this because it is so strong.
Snapcaster mage... fits perfectly when we don’t have tron. If we have tron and U we assume all is well. If we don’t we likely have UUCC or UUUC ... snappy helps smooth things out.
If playing mana leak over remand. Snapcaster can generate similar value.
But for real. Our main win cons at this point are usually mindslaver and walking ballista. The rest are good and have their time to shine/stall for us (wurmcoil angel) and (ugin/ Titan) are situationallly great.
Have liked one karn in u tron lists for a bit.
Jace doesn’t seem great to me because we can’t shuffle our library with fetches to utilize brainstorm mode.
I do agree that it seems like the deck could be rethought, especially since I have been playing a lot of different archetypes recently (u tron still my favorite) I have come to really appreciate Thirst for knowledge, (and faithless looting) in modern. anyways, Remand may not be good, but stall/ cycle is important for how the deck works. thats part of the reason for playing gemstone caverns, to have 2 mana turn 1 on the draw to make remand more useful.
I do think we can learn from other modern decks... UW control, and Gx tron...
thoughts and ideas
UW tech.
spreading seas MB... the only viable option i can think of over remand. could also go up on field of ruin for mana disruption plan while we assemble the pieces.
MORE walking ballistas... did you see the G Tron pro tour list? 4x ballista. the card is great. we play tron. ive played 2.. maybe we should play more...
i think more snapcasters is also a good idea. ill follow this up with a list or two if anyone wants to test stuff out...
lupine prototype is good and all, but 1 rewards more artifact hate, which can often be dead cards for the opponent. and 2, is a 2 mana 5/5... in a deck that plays 1 mana 5/5s... meh.
madness cards in general are just not good in the deck unless it has a madness cost of 0... basking rootwalla and call to the netherworld are the only ones i know of, and not really worth a slot.
infernal tutor however, i could get behind. seems legit. find a pyroclasm, or e.e. ... maybe a hazoret, maybe just reveal a hollow one and find one to give higher odds of playing multiples in one turn. Kinda slow, but we can get fairly grindy with the deck sometimes, especially post board.

1 mindslaver MB makes me make a face.
4 boardwipes mB is whats up. interesting list tho, sounds good! hope to see you on camera

Running fetches isn’t that bad. It thins the deck out too
Oboroo is nice. And better than river of tears for utility. But is still narrow. So narrow that the times I bounce it are like 1 in 50 games.
Meta shift I’ve noticed is more field of ruin. And spell pierce I would recommend SB currently.
