1.) Mythic is a DIFFERENT RARITY. It is NOT a Rare. This was clearly highlighted last year.
2.) Mark Rosewater is not THAT sneaky with what he says. He's usually pretty straight-forward about it.
3.) The list wouldn't be that much smaller. There are 53 rares and 15 mythics in M10. 53 is still a pretty decent chunk to consider.
Please, drop the Chandra speculation already. You're wrong.
Additionally, the original quote states that the combo is an instant win combo, which I took to mean that you win as soon as it's assembled. Chandra takes multiple turns to build up to her ultimate.
does it really make the card that over-powered is what i am asking? but i can very well see wizards just adding cantrips to cards to make a lot of "bad" or fair cards playable.
take for instance giant spider. the card is a solid 4 drop with a nice ability. in limited, this guy is a solid pick; however, in constructed it is over-looked. would wizards ever just add the cantrip ability to that card and move it up one rarity slot to an uncommon?
like some cards i could see this as being deemed "over-powered". giant growth or shock with this ability seems almost too good to be true.
Not every card will be constructed worthy. There are just too many cards for that to be true. Having a card that's only usable in limited is fine.
Rarity does not compensate for power. Mindstone and Viridian Shaman are both pretty much balanced. Adding a cantip makes them overpowered, or at least annoyingly good.
I'm seeing what can be done with it considering the only ways I'm going to expand this cardpool are through more Alara drafts and trading with friends. So I guess what I want to know is...
What sort of deck should I make out of these cards (Esper looks promising, hence the title)?
What cards should I be looking to draft?
What cards should I trade away, and which ones should I be trading for?
I was reading the event coverage of Pro Tour Berlin, particularly the article about gunslinging (http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/eventcoverage/ptber08/gunslinging), when I noticed that there were 3 "Unknown Cards" listed on the Sanity Grinding decklist after Twincast. Does anyone know what they are, or can we infer their name and function from the list of conflux names as well as the general function of the cards in the deck?
Here's a list of card names in the Conflux list that might possibly be milling or targeted card draw:
Inkwell Leviathan (It's probably just a big blue drawback creature, but Inkwell seems sorta mill-ish. It's a stretch. Give me a break, I can't find very many matches...)
Kederekt Parasite (Perhaps... a mind parasite?)
Lapse of Certainty (Lapse is a library-ish word)
Sceptor of Insight (Blue Artifact, probably card draw)
I don't know, they might not even be from Conflux. Does anyone have any information on this?
It's not the "more players" that gets me, it's the certain players. If you've payed attention to Nomic 1, they've toyed with the idea of going to war against us. If we have completely open registration, we are at a severe disadvantage.
How do they propose to attack us? What can they do? We have no fields to salt, no villages to pillage, no leaders to hang.
However, I do support a system of new player registration, and this seems a good a way as any, provided that Metarule 5 is changed accordingly.
@gamestate: I'm at 9 life. Halinn hit me with Garza.

Flip all the coins (These coins don't actually count as being flipped for Krark's Thumb)
Untap all nonland permanents.
I don't understand how anyone could see this card as more reliable or powerful than another card. It gets my vote.

Ah sorry, I didn't see that. I got pretty excited when I saw that decklist.
Although it is kind of suspicious...

Keep it hush-hush, but I got a tip off that there's a card in Morningtide that does damage.
I suppose we can assume this card that removes things from the game is, most likely, not a planeswalker. That's a start, right?
