Just a quick count off my list mentioned above.
    4 cavern of souls
    2 nykthos, shrine to nyx
6 main deck colorless sources now without even shooting for it.

4 Llanowar wastes could make an appearance to bring the count to 10.
1-2 boreal druid would give us up to 12 sources.

I think its castable without bending the mana base much. Heritage does love it's one drops, and I feel like we can naturally outgrow our reliance on the colored mana in Llanowar wastes once we get heritage/archdruid online.

I think where this starts going off the battle plan is that I have nothing I'm willing to cut for the effect. Especially with Kozilek's Return which could end up being the card we end up watching at three mana. Yes it's a turn slower, but it's harder to play around and this doesn't affect it. The double red in anger telegraphs the play a little more, we can lord out of range of pyroclasm on our turn or bring in forge-tender from the board. If the card starts showing up more then yeah, maybe this is where we'll just have to be. Please let us know how the testing goes!

Thanks that helps. Especially with the approach, as I didn't think of it that way and sweepers are quite common in my meta.

I have the finks and wardens at home. I'm personally leaning towards warden. My thought process is a burn spell on warden is one less on a lord, and gives me a chance to outclass zoo on the ground until they goyf. Sentinel and elite did good work for me in the match up I practiced with.

I will probably swap a fetch for another basic forest to up to 4, or maybe another gilt leaf palace. The absence of horizon canopy is strictly a budget issue for me now, as I think they would be good additions.

The artwork and character actions remind me a little of where the wild things are. Now that I see it in the card it'll be a pet card of mine I'm sure. Denn's expression reminds me of the little boy.

Overall I like that we have strong characters outside of the walkers. I like the feral unrefined characters which is a good contrast to the wordly walkers. I did get tired of how difficult ordinary speech was for Mina, as after the first mention could have been glossed over. Overall good world building, although I was hoping Ob vs Chandra would be a thing.

Played a small modern event at my LGS and lost to living end as my only loss in 4 matches. Scavenging ooze seems to come out a little late to the party and fetching for g/b shock gave his street wraith swamp walk. This was a first time for me but it seems like scooze and rotating SotP from battlefield to GY via the namesake is good. I nlove Ed more practice here and may just proxy the deck and goldfish with it.

Match 2 was Naha zoo and wasn't bad, nothing really has trample so being aggressive with what stuck and blocking to make my opponent wait for value from pump spells made it pretty easy.

Match 3 was d&t. Death and taxes is a breeze. My brother runs it and after 30+ games at home I've only lost a couple to a stock list. We just ignore so much of their game plan and the sideboard isn't that great against us. He has great games against other decks though.

Last game was to b/w tokens and it was really close. I'm not sure what we can board in for this match up. I feel naturally resilient to discard because of redundancy but they can get quite aggressive if I can't pilot my guys into the red zone during turns 2/3 and race decently. I won one game with my opponent having gained somewhere in the realm of 70+ life. SotP and Ezuri beats ftw.

So thoughts on the upcoming #SCGChar modern open event:
scavenging ooze has worked very well for me out of the board as a two of, he'll be staying because he just feels relevant a lot of times.
I have kataki, war's wage in the board for affinity
Some discard in my board with thoughtsieze
And finally 4x chord of calling .

    This leaves me 4 slots...

I'm thinking of putting essence warden back in for burn, zoo, twin.
Is plow under worth the slot for tron? I'm expecting a good bit of tron.
I haven't play tested against Bx eldrazi, anyone have any insight?
I'm just going to hope to avoid bloom and shore up the rest of my match ups. Deck stomps on me or dies to itself anyway. If it wins there is typically little I could have done preboard if anything. I only main 1 spellskite .
beast within seem good for lead against eldrazi or tron? These are e my boogie men right now if I don't bring in more than thoughtsieze for bloom.

    Thanks guys!

Eh, not 100% sold but I might try some goldfishing in my s/b for modern coco elves as a way to maintain some semblance of a game after wipes. Not sure if it's good enough as I'd need to tweak my mana base to get the cast trigger off enough, but since kozilek's return is colorless this could replace current answers that are red specific.

Not a fan of the cast and not ETB trigger honestly. Can't trigger off of collected company which makes me sad. Better to have something thought provoking than nothing I guess. Smile

So I want to like Chandra, but between her cards never seeing play and her storyline so empty feeling. I was thinking of what would make her a better character to me. What would pull me into the story?

I feel largely unattached to her parents having such a small amount of buildup and her spark igniting with the new origins story. It felt rushed, lackluster, and the antagonist just felt black to me on a plane that has strong veins of individuality and inspiration in its people. Also the story of having not a knack for things but being a savant in red aligned spells makes her feel like a special snowflake x2. She's just good at what she does AND gets to be a planeswalker. Where's the payoff for her hard work? How's does she grow?

Wouldn't it be neat to make ties of Jaya Ballard, task mage being Chandra in an almost Phoenix sort of way? I.e. Jaya dies in a confrontation and then is born again as Chandra. Her parents could have found her or adopted her. Planeswalking for the first time and meeting the monks of keral keep is the subconscious remnants of a former life. Chandra is the culmination of the same old walker repeating a life/death cycle and there are enough breadcrumbs among the planes in the multiverse to piece it together now.

Thematically I can see it tying out phoenixes being an iconic red creature and would be a neat story twist. Cards like reforge the soul being a good spring board for a storyline reprint card without the miracle rider of course. Reds issues with identity crisis, her reminding the old abbot of Jaya, her maturing character as the story moves along, and her less reliant on running from responsibility (or who you really are and what your feelings are), etc. I dunno I could see it being a fun subplot to the eventual kaladesh storyline. Maybe Nicol Bolas has met her former self at some point? How does she deal with not being who she thought she was all these years? Does it matter, do you run from the past, do you hurl fire at it, can Jace help her solve the mystery?

It's also a pretty fun nod to older players who liked Jaya. I'm a big fan of her flavor text and she was one of my first red cards I actively sought out.

If this was already covered sorry, I tried looking but maybe didn't use the right terms in my search function. Doesn't seem too far fetched of an idea to me.

    Thoughts? Thanks!

First modern tournament, 15 players at My LGS. Just wanted to share.

    Match 1 jund: 2-0
Game one i was on the draw and had a really good curve in my hand. He fetched an overgrown tomb to thoughtsieze me and take a collected company, i play my dork and pass, he drops bob t2, I start going off with nettles/heritage/lead and he scoops after revealing a bob off his bob.
Game two he had a turn two goyf but an elvish champion won me the race, another scoop by opponent. I feel really comfortable in this matchup.

    Match 2: knightfall 2-1.
Game 1 he wins the die roll and goes heirarch t1, knight t2, and retreat t3 and wins...yeh. Game 2 I blew up the retreat with rec sage and closed in slowly.
Game 3 I spellskite do the I tap trigger and he misplayed. I was dead on board but got a freebie because he was new to the deck and forgot about skite.

    Match 3: merfolk 2-0
Game 1 I hit 13 elves on t3 and was on the play and he scoops.
Game 2 he boarded in heavily on me and had no real board presence. I slowly grinded him down to 3 and his hibernation in response to my attack bounced a shaman of the pack to my hand with two dorks out that I cast after the bounce. He swings in for a few damage and then scoops because I didn't block and knew I had shaman.

    Match 4: amulet bloom
Game 1 my opponent misplays and I win on t4. Not sure what the misplay was as he had a full hand that I'm assuming we're lands the whole game?
Game 2 I'm wrecked by t2 and t3 firespout pretty bad.
Game 3 I'm dead on t2 as he hits the nuts.

Good enough to top 4 and overall pretty happy. I need more interaction to deal with the combo decks in my meta. Only two guys run any sort of heavy Aggro. Elite and nettle were my favorite cards to see early because the pressure really put some people on their heels defensively. Archdruid made it to an untapped phase twice... Thinking of trying the blue splash for my meta maybe, negate seems pretty gravy. I run the shocks because there's just a small portion of aggro decks so life isn't usually much of an issue for me. Those could be fast lands for white or palaces for black if I need them at another tournament.

Long time reader first time poster here. I LOVE elves so far, and appreciate all the discussion here. Spoiler alert for new OGW card discussion.

I just finished my modern deck list about a month ago (lead/company build). I wasn't feeling super groovy about Tron to begin with (r/g variant) but now Kozilek's Return seems brutal :(. How can I deal with a recurring sweeper that slots right into the gameplay the deck has already? I can't even outpace the damage with multiple lords if it's in the yard. Discard early or Ezuri pump to survive it if I know it's coming is really all I can think about. It's nice that it won't hit me hard unless it's in the yard so maybe I'm overreacting a bit?

The bulk of my testing has been against stock merfolk and grixis delver/control at my local store so far.
