I'm a big fan of his list but I don't like the baubles, traverse and only 3 Lilly.

I play almost exact 60 except I add 1 Lilly, 1 go for the throat, and take out the 2 baubles, traverse and sometimes add a flex slot or a 24th land

In be SB He has a lot of 1 of's and some are narrow. His sweepersuit is nice and versatile. I think EE or an additional flaying tendrils would be better than gaze of granite. I do like the 2 duress because it hits planeswalkers and really helps against all he UW control running around.

List seems good though. Please report your results and findings after testing.

Thanks for the reply. How do

I was finding that Eternal was basically a 4 drop, and the aggressive creatures really needed some help; it's not that I love Kalitas. I'm guessing Sol Malka is Edward40Hands on MTGO, since I see that name a ton on Rock with the same exact list as Sol.

Scavenging Grounds has been alright, I've used it a few times against Storm on MTGO. Sometimes this deck has too much colorless though, which can get awkward. Last night I GQd my own lands multiple times to get clues for Tireless and fixing my mana.

Last Hope is so much worse than LOTV, LOTV is way higher in the power level scale, and since this deck isn't running paths or terminates I want more ways to kill fatties. I haven't tested Hope in a list in a while, the only issue is when she's bad, she's god awful bad. LOTV is rarely that awful.

Rumumap was just overkill, replaced him with Thrun with blue being more popular

Duress in the SB nowadays seems so silly, CB is just way more flexible, which helps for burn, company, combo, etc.

I wouldn't be opposed to 4 IOK, 2 Thoughtseize with 4x Bobs being so bad against burn decks.

I'm pretty sure Reid wrote that CB pretty much replaced duress for him in almost all situations.

    I'll keep testing.

Bobzan looks like a good idea for GBx players to try aa well, may be where the deck is heading. Flayer is better in a meta where people don't want to interact, I think he's in a bad spot right now

Thanks for the quick reply. How do you feel about 23 lands?

Running Dismember in any GBx deck just seems like an awful idea, that card is meant for other decks and archetypes. Lillian's defeat is way too narrow, I hate playing narrow cards in the board.

    My list was

Even with all those Finks and CB's the matchup against both burn players felt close, I wonder if Hatto dodged burn, because his original list seems atrocious against a very popular matchup that you will always see a ton of in large tournaments and FNM's, due to being a cheaper pillar modern deck.

Surgical seems like such a "gotcha card" and I wouldn't be sad to remove that.

I like how you designed the deck. Very easy to side in and out cards in the deck to upgrade the matchups.

What do you like about Kalitas in this format?

Are you not a fan of Lilly the last hope?

What do you think about scavenging grounds? This is the most curious card in the list since it hits our goys, witness, and ramunap and Lilly the lost hope if your playing it. I guess it's great in matchups where you need the hate.

I have found the ramunap excavator to be very strong when I want to grind or against the big mana decks. Hatto must have been focused on these decks.

I also believe he lost to burn in the finals which still seems difficult to believe with all the lifegain.

Sol Malka and Reid Duke swear by 4 inquisition and 2 Thoughtseize. Sol plays 2 duress in the SB which I have found very good.

Went 3-1 tonight with GB Rock. Deck was solid

Based my list off of Hatto's from the GP, but I had to add more ways to shore up the burn matchup.

Beat 2 burn decks, 1 Affinity, lost a close 3rd game to the other Affinity player who had a turn 1 Seer. I wish there was some kind of catch-all terminate like spell. Go for the Throat looked bad for me tonight :p

Perhaps 1 dismember and 1 victim of the night. You can put a lilianas defeat in the SB to replace victim in its bad matchups

What are the differences in your 75 than Hattos?

I have been going back and forth between BG rock and BG with a white splash for stony silence and lingering souls in SB

Thoughtseize, Lilly is often enough disruption to throw them off their game plan. If they manage to get an Eldrazi down push, pulse, go for the throat take care of them. At the same time if I draw into ghost quarter it slows down tron if they are building towards it even though they replace it with a wastes. I often find them time walking themselves with an expedition map rushing to get tron or a temple while they leave my Bob on board with a dismember or balista in hand.

While doing all of this goyf gets bigger than their creatures and our threats + disruption takes game 1

Game 2 Most Etron players over side board and bring in relics and chalice. I always side out my inquisitions and depending on the build I will take out some fatal pushes and actually leave in 1-3 abrupt decays depending on my build. This allows me to ignore the chalice but also destroy it if I need to and also destroy a relic. This really takes them off their game and the Etron deck turns into a clunky mid range deck and they end up stuck with fatties in their hand.

At first I was very surprised that I was dominating but week in and week out of consistently 2-0 them.

Cards that have been most impressive in the matchups are a mix of the following

    Goyf-gets huge

    Sqooze-gets huge

    Bob-often they leave unanswered
Lilly of the Veil-bomb against them

Kalitas-very good against matter reshapers and hangerbacks that they bring in post board
Ghost quarter-its not a bomb but it makes them stumble

Fulminator mage-not a bomb but makes them stumble

Lingering souls-chumps matter reshaper so don't have to kill it and let them gain a card

Stony silence-even if you don't get it early it shuts down balista which is worth it. Also shuts off relic

I know this is a Jund board but the BG cards can be added to Jund to help those matchups

I play BG rock now and consistently 2-0 Etron

Lilly, maelstrom pulse,Thoughtseize, monster goyfs are great against them.

They also have a difficult time killing Bob unless they draw a balista

I like GB Rock but I think the reason to splash white is for lingering souls.

I am still debating if I want to run 2 path or go for the throat/dismember/murderous cut in its place

I find the grixis shadow matchup to be difficult and path is much better in those

These are very encouraging and interesting results.

Reid Duke put that article out a couple of weeks ago where he was adamant about the omission of Paths.

In addition most of the Abzan decks over the weekend included Grim Flayers and a bunch included Dark confidant. This is definitely my favorite type of build and I look forward to seeing more results.

Order of whiteclay has amazing synergy with copter. Perhaps play those in matchups where you need to grind and board in crusaders in matches where he's a true name nemesis

But you keep in Lilly of the Veil right? So against junk your playing 6 total Lilly?

    Hey guys,

just returned home from the mkm series in prague this weekend and decided to do this small writeup of my experience. I went there by friday and stayed in prague for 4 days. On Friday I played a modern grand trial which would give winners byes for the main event, but I did not very well during the trial, it was 2-3 drop. But it didn't bother me too much, I found it great to being able to play some matches before the actual main event, to reduce stress and get a feeling of how the tournament functions. Also, you could play a different decklist on that trial compared to the main event, which was also pretty nice.

For the main event, I registered this list after all:

In that tournament where 296 people, which meant 9 rounds of swiss, followed by a top 8 cut off.

    Round 1: Elves (won 2-1)
My opponent said it was the first time that he played elves in a tournament, but he played quite well. Luckily for me, I did find an early Lavamancer which helped me in game 1, which I won. Game 2 I was overrun by a timely Ezuri + pump topdeck, and I didn't have enough removal and blockers for staying alive.
Round 3 was pretty close, I tried to hold up removal for Ezuri or Archdruid, but my opponent just build up a board with small creatures and 2 Shaman of the pack, which hurt me quite a bit. I had 2 Goyfs and one ooze. Goyfs where only 2/3s because the GYs only had instants and creatures in it. I then could cast my Anger keeping my goyfs alive and killing all of this creatures. I also pumped my ooze out of Anger range, only letting 1 creature in the yard because otherwise my goyfs would have died (falling back to 2/3 and then dying through the Anger dmg). This made me won the first round.

Round 2: Jeskai Control (lost 0-2)
Pretty tough matchup and my opponent played it really well. I had multiple Bobs, but my opponent had removal for each and everyone of them. I could not resolve a LoTV either. And the games all did last too long which got to a point where my opponent took over. I am wandering if keeping hand without discard is ok to do against control. The hands I kept felt overal "ok", but quite a bit clunky (like only some 2 and 3 drops and 2-3 lands). I don't know if this is a keepable hand against control. What do you guys think? Not sure this was my mistake.

    Round 3: Affinity (won 2-0)
At the beginning of the tournament my deck felt mostly clunky at times, either having too many lands or too few of them, but starting with this matchup my deck started to play flawless. It was just great. I had everything I needed to destroy my opponent. It was not even close.

    Round 4: Merfolk (won 2-1)
I was a little bit surprized to see merfolk at the tournament. All the matches where pretty interesting. Spreading Seas and Kira are all very annoying cards to deal with. I could remove one Kira with a Decay and had extra lands to maintain my black sources, but one game my opponent overrun me with lords. For the other 2 games, I had enough removal to keep his board mostly clean, which is highly important here.

Round 5: Naya Zoo (won 2-0)
This matchup can be tough sometimes, since this deck runs a coupld of PWs which are hard to answer, but key here is to deny mana ramp. So killing mana dorks is highly important. I managed to do so and took both games easily due to this.

    Round 6: Abzan (won 2-1)
I lost the first game because of Souls and then Rhino for the win. The other 2 games was a grindfest. In game 2 I got ahead with an early goyf and LtLH, my opponent played Souls + flashback, but at this poiint Souls are not very good anymore, he had to use all the tokens for jump blocking. Also LtLH was MVP here.

    Round 7: Grixis Control (draw)
I am still not sure you want to cut discard after g1 or not. Hitting Snapcaster is so crucial in my opinion. I cut Pushes and Decays instead I think, bc those cards won't hit anything relevant. They only have Snapcaster and delve creatures. I brought in my Spellbombs and CB, as well as Finks. All games where a grindfests. In the end, my opponent didn't find a threat and countered all my threats I tried to resolve. Ended up in a draw.

    Round 8: Abzan (lost 0-2)
This Abzan list was a annoying one including multiple Tasigurs, which are tough to deal with. I tried to resolve Bobs and Goyfs, but my opponent had 3 LoTV in a row to kill all of them. In the second game my opponent resolved an early Tasigur and began to grind me out with his activations. I just could find removal for him. I was quite pissed because if I would have won this game, top 8 would have been possible at this point.

Round 9: Mono White Death and Taxes (lost 0-2)
Since top 8 was not possible anymore after the last round, I did not pay too much attention anymore. There was also no chance of winning any prizes at this point. I therfore lost both games.

So all in all I ended up 5-1-3 during the main event. I would have tloved to at least reach top 8, but with almost 300 people battling there, its quite tough. Overall I am still happy for the record, after all I won more rounds than I lost. And all people I met gave me credit for running traditional Jund again, which was quite nice.

Concerning my SB, I was not really satisfied with the Fulminators and the second Damnation. According to the metagame breakdown, the topdecks were Grixis Shadow, Affinity and the GBx midrange decks. No sight of Tron or Eldrazitron, which was fantastic.

I am not sure I want to keep the Olivia in the MB now, I need to change a few things I think. I will definitely return next year with Jund!

Thats it for now, take care
    Delver

Thanks for the report as well. I have been torn on how to properly sideboard Lilliana the last hope properly. When playing against junk what do you take out for Lilliana the lost hope? How do you sideboard against this matchup?

Hi mates, yesterday I made TOP8/43 in the Big Summer Modern @ Milan.
    My list was:

    T1: RG TRON 2-1 (1-0)
GAME 1: T3 Karn, Pulse on Karn, T4 Ugin GG.
GAME 2: Land IoK, Land Goyf, Land FMage, Land Liliana, FMage, GG with Goyf.
GAME 3: He didn't have tron pieces on 3th turn and I managed to play FMage, in addition to 2 thoughseize. Tasigur + Liliana brought home the match.

SIDEBOARD: -2 lightning bolt -2 fatal push -1 terminate | +4 fulminator mage +1 surgical extraction

    T2:UR STORM 2-0 (2-0)
GAME 1: I began with 2 discard spells and Liliana 3th turn. Goyf made the rest.
GAME 2: He sided in Blood Moon and Ensnaring Bridge. I began with Iok, Swamp, Verdant, Raging, Thoughtseize, Lightning Bolt, Tasigur. Verdant for Forest and none problem with his Blood Moon on 3th turn. He played Ensnaring Bridge with my Goyf + Tasigur. At the end of this turn Jund Charm +2+2 on Goyf and in my turn Maelstrom Pulse on his Bridge...GG.

    SIDEBOARD: -2 terminate -2 kolaghan's command | +1 jund charm +1 nihil spellbomb +1 golgari charm +1 surgical extraction

    T3:UW CONTROL 2-0 (3-0)
GAME 1: He played a lot of Planeswalkers. New Gideon CC3, Jace Architect of Thoughts, Elspeth Sun's Champion, Gideon Jura, and then Spreading Seas and Detention Sphere. In this game I managed to play 2 discard spells and Liliana of the veil on 3th turn, in order to leave my opponent with 0 cards in hand. On topdeck he drew 2 Gideon and Jace, resolved by Goyf, Ooze and Maelstrom Pulse. The choice of 2 MPulse MD was very strong to me.
GAME 2: Iok, FMage, FMage and then Seize + Liliana..GG.

SIDEBOARD: -2 fatal push -2 lightning bolt -2 kolaghan's command | +4 fulminator mage +1 surgical extraction +1 golgari charm

    T4:ELDRATRON 0-2 (3-1)
    GAME 1: T3 Karn......G2.
GAME 2: I mulligan to 6 in order to keep with a Fulminator Mage. I dind't draw any FMage and I've lost with T4 Tron pieces, with 2 Reality Smasher and Karn.

SIDEBOARD: -2 lightning bolt -2 abrupt decay -1 scavenging ooze -1 fatal push | +4 fulminator mage +1 surgical extraction +1 damnation

    T5:VIZIR COMBO 2-0 (4-1)
GAME 1: A very long game. He played 4 eternal witness and he managed to play 6 Collected Company, but the ability of Tasigur and Ooze brought home the match.
GAME 2: on 4th turn he had Finks, Noble, Bop, Witness. In my turn Anger of the gods. In his next turn he played another Witness, Vizir and another Bop. Subsequently Tasigur + Jund Charm. GG.

SIDEBOARD: -4 liliana of the veil -2 kolaghan's command | +1 damnation +1 jund charm +1 engineered explosives +1 anger of the gods +1 nihil spellbomb +1 surgical extraction

    T6:UW CONTROL I.D. (4-1-1)

The prizes were 100%, so we decided to split all prizes in the TOP8.
    Some considerations:

    - 4 Fulminator Mage: I don't know how you should win against Uw Control, Rg Valakut, Mirrors, Eldrazi, Tron....without Fulminator Mage. This was MVP in a lot of matches. Nevermore under 3-4 copies.

    - 2 Maelstrom Pulse MD: wow. It is the first time to play 2 of maindeck. This was the best choice I've ever made with Jund. Maindeck is a flexible slot against any kind of deck.

    - 2 Tasigur, The Golden Fang: the star of the deck. You should try it.

-1 Rakdos Charm, 1 Golgari Charm, 1 Jund Charm: Three wonders cards. I love flexibility in my sideboard, and they managed to do what I need. Rakdos Charm is less powerful than others, but is very strong right now.

-Nihil Spellbomb: I prefer this card instead of Leyline of the Void. Absolutely. In addition to Rakdos Charm, Jund Charm and Surgical Extraction....I'm happy against graveyard decks.

-3 Kitchen Finks: I expected some Mirrors, Burn and Grixis Shadow...but there were maybe 6/7 players with these decks.

So, I'm very happy with this list, and in the next tournament I'll play the same list.
Do u have any questions about my list?

I like your Deck!at the First Time your decision of Tasigur Looks weird but it works good for you:)!do you Play him because he is fatal Push Proof or is His ability also important for you?and why you kicked out lilly the Last hope completely?

Nice job man! In addition to the last question, how would you sideboard against grixis control and grixis death shadow if you played them?
