In almost any case you will roll a 6-sided die and simply 1-2 , 3-4 , 5-6 ; as many if not all will have one around.

    Works also with a 20-sided die , 1-6, 7-12, 13-18 ; and you simply re-roll on 19-20, which is quick to do.

People will still try to cheat with dice rolls, especially with the 20-sided spindown ones (not rolling them entirely and such stuff).

It's generally best to avoid using spindown dice as er... dice. It has to do with clustering and weighting. It's hard to find a serious article that dives into the details because spindown dice aren't commonly used (AFAIK) outside of a limited number of games. There is this article that touches upon some of the points and issues but reads a bit like a promotional for the dice later in the, very short, article. https://www.geeknative.com/65027/whats-a-spindown-dice-and-are-standard-d20s-any-fairer/

For randomness I have a set of dedicated dice (25 years old and counting) or rock/paper/scissors cards. Seems to work well enough without complaints.

I don’t remember any markings identifying my white box as Kaleidoscope Killers until I opened it up, is there a way to tell before you open up the white box?

It is printed on the top or side in plain black text.

Not looking through the archives, my guess is about once a year? About the same on other forums as well by my reckoning.

Sadly, people still do it despite all the advice and warnings. The saddest was when a kid brought his laminated and "perfectly trimmed" cards to his teacher wondering how much he could get for them.

    Total value... $0.

Yes, I have heard of people doing this.

It's not a good idea on any level. Doing so completely decimates any value these cards would have on the market, amongst all the other problems you're bound to encounter.

Sorry, I have no suggestions on what size pouch to use.

So only a single one... Hm... I fear the shipping costs to Europe will make this one not very worth it!

I wonder if it will continue to contain a stained-glass planeswalker. Would be nice.

I'm actually betting that WotC inverted the model this time. We'll get a chance to order the individual boxes first then at the end of the cycle, they'll announce you can buy the entire set at a discount. Then we'll just sit back and watch the **** storm as the player base throws a fit.

If you're using that logic to not buy these now, I wouldn't count on that happening.

No... read the other post. It's too soon. If this was released in February, maybe. March? Absolutely. But January? So close to TBD's release, Christmas and the last SL product? I'll just dump the $39.99 on a reserved list card and call it a day.

  • posted a message on Cards of equal mana cost but unequal power/toughness
If you track the lineage of Craw Wurm to Primordial Wurm you can see that the 6 CMC green vanilla creatures has had a tiny amount of power creep over the years. To wit, over the course of 27 years we've seen the following cards:

    Craw Wurm printed in 1993
    Barbtooth Wurm 1998
    Vastwood Gorger, 2009
    Alpha Tyrranax, 2010
    Kindercatch, 2011
    Vorstclaw. 2012
    Tusked Colossodon, 2014
    Canopy Gorger, 2016
    Cowl Prowler, 2016
    Primordial Wurm, 2018
    Nyxborn Colossus, 2020

I'm not counting Tuinvale Treefolk even though it is technically a Vanilla creature, but having an Adventure tacked on puts the creature, IMHO, into a different class.

If you examine the cards carefully, you'll notice that the designers kind of bat around the power/toughness peaking at Vorstclaw in 2012. Take note of the actual mana cost on some of the cards too. Craw and Barbtooth are both identical in power and toughness and even how much mana is spent, but the fact that Barbtooth requires only one G and Craw requires GG makes Barbtooth the better of the two. You can get away with having only one Forest in play and any other colors as long as you have at least five plus G to cast Barbtooth Wurm. There's more to it than that as Lithl explained. I'm just over simplifying to illustrate a point.

So yeah... it is what it is. And for the most part, WotC has done a reasonably good job in not letting the power levels of the cards get too out of hand too quickly too often. Not perfect over the course of 27 years but compared to a certain other card game, it's kept in check.

    More?

How much further are they going to push this sort of model before consumer exhaustion sets in?

I think I'll skip this one. Thereos is coming out this week and now a special rat pack at the end of the month? A little too much if you ask me and a little too close to the holidays many of us are still reeling from.

Why not just throw in the towel and print the next three sets in February?

  • posted a message on Arena Wonky Behavior.
Wonky behavior basically describes most of Arena but I digress...

Arena keeps acting like it's the beginning of the season and sends up the Rotation screem, followed by the Renewal Gifts screen (with no gifts of course), followed by a partially blank screen with all the navigation buttons broken, all leading to dead or black screens. It takes several attempts, restarting, reinstalling, logging in/out to eventually get my screen as it should. As I type this, it's been about 15 minutes of futzing.

To give you an idea what it looks like, see the attachment. Anyone else getting the same problem?

It's always weird to me when people do this. They are wasting their own time too.

So-called players who do this don't care about the time. It's about the easy win. They have little else better to do with their time than to sit and play games all day.

To put it into context, out of their 15 weekly wins, how many were because their opponent conceded within say... the first five minutes of game play? For them, it's worth it.

"So... I Disenchant your Ashiok to get back my Athreos...
"No dude, I exiled Cavalier with that one, Athreos was exiled with the Drowned Secrets"
    "Which one?"
    "That one"
"No, that's for Ethereal Absolution and Dead Weight"
"Damn it, no. Dead Weight was with... uh... yeah, whatever. What did you want back again?"

I can totally see that second ability causing a lot of confusion if any game run longs enough.

    Bump

    It’s here

    2R

    Instant

Deals 3 damage to any target and scry 1

I guess it's better than Lightning Javelin and Bolt of Keranos...

Scry with red isn't new but... what are they trying to do with it here? (Standard) Red doesn't have a very strong draw mechanism, that seems to be Blue forte. Are they trying to push more synergy in the Red or White with Blue here?

So it's probably 3 damage to target creature or planeswalker that escaped this turn, right?

Oh yeah... forgot they're pushing "escape". In that case this card is pretty darn narrow. Would that qualify as a parasitic mechanic? Wow.... great in limited but trash everywhere else.

    Bumping

It’s a instant that deals 3 damage to blank and cost atleast 1 R

It's undoubtedly an Instant. It probably hits Planeswalkers as well. You can see the serif on the type line and there isn't a whole lot of choices to choose from. You can also see a second serif down in the text box. Again, not a lot of options.

Since Shock, and not Lightning Bolt, is the standard, would something like that cost one cmc? I guess if they really push the power level or fails to hit players.

And since there's still room to the right on the first line, it might be "each". So it might me something like "Fateful End deals 3 damage to each creature and planeswalker." With a possible "Fateful End deals 3 damage to each creature and planeswalker your opponents control." Or maybe even, Fateful End deals 3 damage to each creature and planeswalker an opponent controls."

It might be more like Chandra's Triumph where it's not each but rather target. But I'm unsure if there's enough room there and I really don't feel like firing up my image editor to see.

So is RU self-mill going to become an actual thing now? Or I suppose some sort of suicidal red discard deck?
