Linvala doesn't stop abilities that are already on the stack. She only keeps things from being activated starting from the moment she resolves and hits the battlefield. Furthermore, you couldn't even have responded to Selvala's activation, as hers is a mana ability, which cannot be responded to or countered, and doesn't even use the stack. Linvala does keep those abilities from being activated again later on.

I didn't give up on the writing down my opening hand; what i'm trying now is to write down my cards as i play them, instead of all in the beginning of the game. This has worked quite well in goldfishing, so i'm hoping it'll prove its worth in the tournament tonight.

How do you meaningfully goldfish lantern? I've always thought of that as moot because your plays are so dependent on interaction with the opponent and because the decisions you would make in the interest of racing the lock down as fast as possible are too disconnected and obvious to be worth practicing.

While it does not give you much insight on the decision making process you go through every game, you need to be quick, goldfishing a few times helps being more comfortable with the motions. It also helps a bit with adjusting the mana base and choosing what goes in your flex slots.

Someone top 8d a huge tournament here with Elves. I'm gon a post the list once I get it. I saw some of his matches and he was running Glissa, the Traitor in the side. He said he uses it against Eldrazi and Goyf decks. Saw him chord for it against Reality Smasher. His opponent's face was priceless lol

Seems great against Eldrazi, seems horrible against Goyf decks though.

Why would Glissa be good against Eldrazi and goyfs? We don't run significant artifacts worth bringing back...

Glissa is the single best road bump against non-evasive creatures.

The problem with constructed application here is you are limited to getting cards from your sideboard, so you have to run it basically as a 1 of that occupies a lot of deck space for an occasional mildling payoff, or a 2 of with diminishing returns. In the meantime, they are insanely unbalanced in limited, even when counting just your pool as cards owned outside the game.

I got at least four from the pre-release alone.

No, you are not, if he doesn't keep track of the cards by noting them down or commiting to memory, you're not obligated to remind him. In this case you can either say nothing, tell him, or lie about it.

Hidden Herbalists could lead to some blowout T2 plays, able to close out the game easily with a T3 Nissa when in multiples. It might be nicer than Greenwheel Liberator, who needs a little more setup to escape Bolt while still remaining vulnerable to Push, which good or not will be played everywhere for the next couple of months. WIth the Herbalists you get more threats sooner, putting extra pressure or stealing games out of nowhere.

Could someone explain the Hidden Herbalists excitement to me? It looks a lot like Burning-Tree Emissary to me, which IDK is a thing in Modern. Is there a deck that wanted BTE 5-8 and I just missed it? Or something else?

Hidden Herbalists gets you GG instead of GR. Which means once enabled, a deck like Stompy can get some ridiculous plays with Experiment One T1, Avatar of the Resolute and one or two Herbalists and a T3 Nissa locking the game. It don't just act like an extra Emissary, there are some places he just fits a little bit better, enough to enable some new strategies.

    Ugin's Nexus anyone?

Edit: Nevermind, forgot first line of text. Lots of other combos though.

Actually... If you have a sac outlet, you could copy the orginal nexus, choose it to go to the graveyard when the legend rule kicks in, then sac the copy. You'll get 2 extra turns out of the deal, since the Nexus won't be at the battlefield when you try to begin the extra turns.

If there's one thing Wizards always plays too safe with it's cantrip burn. Ember Shot is still the set standard for this kind of effect.

Of course the blue one has to cost more than all of the other ones...
Should have cost 1. It's so lame.

It's the same cost as most straightforward draw 2 cards these days, 1U to draw 2 would have been overpowered, and even 2 would have made it possibly too strong for standard. It's fairly costed, but not too good.

Only if you have a Heartless Summoning or something similar out. For some reason, people keep forgetting that Mikaeus is a classic lord, too.

That or a Sac outlet but I edited my post, I really forgot the +1/+1 to everything. Might even try assembling a deck with that combo now, it doesn't seem too bad. Similar to Melira in card requirement, but with less of a color strain, as everything you need is either black or colorless, and if you don't have the Summons you can go off with Viscera Seer or similar, and Viscera and Mikaeus even let you use Murderous Redcap to close off the combo.

I do like that for being a riff on Triskelion, it actually cannot go infinite with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed in the way Triskelion can.

It not only CAN go infinite with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed but you can play it for 0 and still have it go infinite. You had to jump a little hoop to go infinite with Triskelion, you had to use the last counter to kill the Triskelion, as it was a 1/1, while this guy can just blow all his counters murdering things and as long as he's got undying he'll keep coming back for more. ((Oh, wait, forgot about the Mikaeus +1/+1 boost. With Trisk you have to use two counters to kill himself. You need to give him -1/-1 somehow to get this to work, perhaps with Heartless Summoning Then you can combo off on T4, which isn't bad, I suppose?))
