UW being better against Burn than Jeskai is probably going to surprise a lot of people, but having played the UW side a lot, I believe it. Helix gives you time against Burn, but they're eventually going to draw more burn spells and kill you if you don't kill them quickly. UW can actually turn the corner and take control of the game in a way that Jeskai can't. Beyond that, most UW lists were running 1-3 copies of Timely Reinforcements in their 75, sometimes even with a copy or two main, and the angels in the sideboard are just lights out against Burn if you get to untap with them. I've even had games where I just raced them with a Clique because they side out their Searing Blazes against UW.

If you've ever played a 2 color deck this shouldn't be surprising. I consistently win games on blue moon against burn just due to my mana base. Same holds true when I play uw control. Like even games I don't cast timely/other lifegain spells.

Just putting in my 2 cents worth, but it is quite possible that Wizards would fear an artificial boom of twin decks in the format for if they unbanned it. There would be former players returning, and those who believe it to be an unbeatable monster all playing it, even if it is just a middle- tier 1 deck. That’s why I honestly believe that if it ever came off the list it would be with multiple other cards (sfm, GSZ) or a Deceiver Exarch ban to power it down.

Artificial boon of new players playing twin sounds like an inflated win percentage for a while. Sign me up. Cue the new people playing the deck and saying it's trash because they got blown out going for combo turn 4.

I personally find this iteration of UW control boring to play or some reason, which has made me increasingly frustrated with modern. I've been playing jank and midrange/control/combo decks of old for fun the past few months.e

Didn't see a thread so I figured I would throw one up.

Just tuned in and caught the round 2 matches shown.

Infect vs Bant Spirits (Kevin Jones on Spirits) and Hardened Scales vs Dredge (Ari Lax on Dredge).

Neither round 2 match were exactly interesting to watch in my opinion. Hopefully, we end up with some better magic later in the day.

I haven't posted anything about my play patterns and whether I've adapted to the meta, so your change comments are a bit irrelevant. It doesn't change the fact that Rest in Peace main deck is traditionally a sign that the format is a bad place. I

Won vs dredge on Final match with Mulligan 3. i draw only my relic (Main) and it was over. Still here tslking about dredge? Change your attitude and adapt Main gravehate. By the way, other matches was jeskai, kci, mardu and titanshift. 4 of 5 games opponent was gravebased...so why you still think anti grave cards Main is narrow? This is not thrue anymore

This is the exact argument for why dredge is an issue. Lots of decks cannot beat it game 1 without playing main deck hate cards. When sideboard cards like Rest in Peace start becoming main deck cards to beat a deck there is a problem. Relic is arguably less egregious, but still you made a conscious decision to to play relic main (which traditionally only sees play in a few main decks). Most decks don't like exiling their own graveyards because they use them as a resource.

Ended up jamming Esper at FNM. I was super happy with my 1x in my main tonight. Detention Sphere main did so much work in multiple games. Blessed Alliance saved me against RB hollow one game 1 by putting me out of lightning bolt range. Settle the wreckage ended up saving my ass against bloodghast out RB hollow one.

Out of the sideboard the thoughtseize + surgical combo did work against ad nauseam. Locally I'm still happy to be on 2 purge and 2 halo.

The gideon package felt extremely strong and forced the RB hollow one player to exert a ton of resources to remove 3 of the 4 gideons, which bought me enough time to stabilize.

Ended up going 3-0 and then scooping my last round to GW company because I had to leave to go to work.

    Round 1: RB Prison (M: 1-0;G: 2-0)
Game 1 I don't remember much outside of getting to jam Charm and Detention Sphere in the same turn to answer a chalice and then a blood moon. Ended up slamming a gideon (don't remember which after that) with cryptic back up. Game 2 Disenchant carried by answering multiple ensnaring bridges. Baneslayer + Gid of Trials ended up closing out the game quickly after dealing with my opponents. last bridge.

    Round 2: RB Hollow One (M: 2-0;G: 4-0)
Game 1 was rough, I felt like I was on the back foot the entire time until I turned the corner. My opponent ended up getting me low with recurring bloodghast. I through a combination of luck and navigating the game ended up sticking multiple gideons back to back, while my opponent was able to answer 3 of them, but I did end up getting an emblem out of my first gideon of the trials. I found my 4th gideon after a path snap path on a gurmag and a hollow one leaving me at 3. I top decked a gideon of the trials and was able to fog a bloodghast. I ended up negating a bolt and then found my rev. Rev drew me into my settle the wreckage and a supreme verdict. I was able to settle my opponents remaining bloodghast, and then the verdict cleaned up a hollow one and a gurmag angler. From there Gideon was able to close the game out. Game 2 my opponent kept a bad hand with no red source and a leyline of the void. I kept a double path, charm, cc hand with lands. My opponent didn't do anything until turn 3 which let me not take damage from my lands and esper charm the leyline turn 3. From there, I was in the drivers seat the entire game. I honestly don't remember much of the game outside of my opponent being heavy on a bloodghast hand. I resolved an elspeth that ate a dreadbore and then rode a baneslayer to victory.

    Round 3: Ad Nauseam (M: 3-0;G: 6-0)
Game 1 my opponent kept a cantrip heavy hand. I mulled to 6 into snap, charm, serum, cryptic 2 lands. Sequenced tap land turn 1 into turn 2 serum tap land. Turn 3 I cast esper charm for mind rot mode hitting angel's grace and phyrexian unlife. Turn 4 I charmed him again. Turn 5 I missed my land drop and countered his lotus bloom and bounced his phyrexian unlife he put on the battlefield. After I cast cryptic he cast a mastermind's acquisition. I untapped and got to snap charm away his last 2 cards away hitting boseiju and the unlife I bounced the previous turn. I ended up finding a gideon and was able to close out the game from there.

Game 2 was more interesting in my opinion, my opponent cast a fair lab man. He hits me with lab man and then casts a rest in peace. My opponent has lotus bloom in play along with a pentad prism with 1 counter left on it in play. I have 3 lands up and 1 card in my graveyard. I cast surgical in response to the RIP targetting a sleight of hand in my opponent's graveyard in order to gain information. He let's surgical resolve and I see his hand is spirit guide, echoing truth, and phyrexian unlife. From there I decided to cast the logic knot for x=3 to force my opponent to crack his lotus bloom if he wanted the rest in peace to resolve. I got to untap and slam jace fateseal to protect myself. I then was able to untap and brainstorm with protection up. Jace found my additional a detention sphere to answer his rest in peace while protecting myself. Jace continued to brainstorm me into a thoughtseize which was able to take the echoing truth out of my opponent's hand. From there I found a gideon of the trials to emblem and then found a surgical to remove my opponent's remaining echoing truths so he wasn't able to remove my gideon and kill me with lightning storm being his only win condition.

    Round 4 GW Coco
Intentional scoop in order to get ready for work. I have no qualms about my ability to win this match up though.

It has been one week. There have been no massive complaints about the new forums structure, and if anything I've seen much more positive feedback about it. I suppose for now we will keep it as-is but leave the thread open for another while.

I like the new layout. It's easier to find the threads I want to get to, although I'm sure there's probably a deck or two that falls into multiple categories and people might complain. It definitely seems like an overall positive to me.

The petty keyboard warrior in me wants to go list all the pros, posters, and players who predicted the end of Modern after a JTMS unban. Regarding pros, these are authors who should generally not be trusted, or at least should be treated with significant skepticism. They severely misjudged Modern and/or JTMS himself, and this serves as a big blight on their track record. Similar to Tom Ross infamously predicting a Nahiri ban after 6 months. Alternately, these players are just in it for the clicks, which is another strike against their credibility. As for users, there's a long list of posters I can think of from Reddit and this site that have a lot of crow to eat. I will certainly be skeptical about their claims in the future.

Excited to see the T8! UW Control currently in first at 33 points with some sweet Settle the Wreckage technology.

Please do go keyboard warrior. It'd be nice to have a list of people who are just clickbait writers when it comes to modern.

Are you actually defending Zachary Jesse with the "happened a decade ago and nothing to do with Magic" comment, or is that someone else?

This is way off topic, but Zach Jesse is the epitome of a social justice case gone wrong. He did his sentence, and the community further punished him. Whether you believe that is right or wrong should not allow you to scorn other people for their perspectives.

I still 100% think it's bull***** that Wizards banned him. He served his sentence; hell his state bar let him get his legal license. I'm sure they have a heck of a lot more stringent requirements about something like that than WotC the social justice warrior company. I'd much rather cheaters eat a permanent ban than a person who has atoned for his mistake.

What's your opinion on the Stanford Rapist, Brock Turner? It's virtually the same situation. Guys rapes someone. Uses wealthy connections to get a laughably short sentence. Gets out and claims they "atoned" for the life they destroyed.

This is a problem with our legal system. Also I believe Jesse took a plea deal, which implies the state didn't have enough evidence to convict him of the rape charge (not saying he didn't rape her); I'm unable to find much info about evidence against him since it didn't go to court. Brock Turner was convicted and the judge gave a lenient sentence still within the bounds of the law. First time offenders typically get 2 years. Turner also tried to appeal the charge showing a lack of remorse. It's nowhere near the same thing and you're allowing your social bias to group both cases even though they're different.

I'm not saying that they didn't deserve longer sentences, but you're making the argument that years down the road someone can't have changed and made improvements in their lives in an attempt to better themselves and potentially show remorse for an action of the past is farsical. You also made no acknowledgment about the fact that Zach Jesse was given a legal license by his state bar. I can speak from second hand experience how hard it is to get a legal license from the state bar if you have a record; my brother had a DUI while in college, and had to jump through an absurd amount of hoops to get his.

I personally think you might have too much tension with the heavy hand disruption plan and heavy counterspell plan, but if it's working for you it's working. For the valakut match up don't forget about runed halo potentiall. I think the geist plan is reasonable though.
