I've been playing with Prowess for a while now. I like the card quite a bit.
Pros:
Leaves you with some board presence after most sweepers/general removal
Adds an extra mana with Elvish Archdruid
Can be tapped with Heritage Druid's ability
Adds an extra loss of life with SOTP
Can be regenerated with Ezuri
Can be revealed for Gilt-Leaf Palace
Cons:
Can be hard to cast with land if not running a decent amount of fetches/shocks
Can't cast from Heritage Druid's or Elvish Archdruid's ability
Doesn't work against exile effects
Great primer! As a infrequent collaborator, but frequent lurker in the previous form, I'm quite excited to see what discussions are to come and hope to contribute more.
I do, have never had a problem with speed, I quite often get the turn three kill. Being able to chord for Shaman for the loss of life or the combination of archdruid on my opponents endstep and Ezuri during my turn has won me many games. Only downside is that you can have a little less resiliency after board wipes if you overcommit or don't leave a chord up for protection. Cards to work around this could include: Fecundity or Prowess of the Fair. I think a few others on this form still run BG Chord, I know Syreal94 was when he last posted a decklist.
If you look at my last post, about four posts up, I posted a neat BG deck that won a tournament in Toronto.
I know it's been talked about before in this sub, but i've been running/testing a Prowess of The Fair in my SB on and off for awhile and have loved it. There's some really neat interactions that with it [tapping an enchantment with Heritage Druid, getting in an extra point of damage with a Shaman of the Pack or getting an extra mana with Elvish Archdruid. I believe due to weird tribal rulings you can also regenerate it with Ezuri... Not that you would... But nonetheless, you can...] and it helps against board wipes [at least you'll have something left over].
Opponents also frequently take it over 'better' choices with a Thoughtseize or Iok.
I'm also on the Chord only plan, I just enjoy playing it over Lead. The M15 art is so flavourful as well.
My SB is actually pretty similar to yours Syreal, only differences being that I run two fracturing gusts, a skite over Melira [which is a great call by the way, as skite can be relevant in more than one matchup] and a Scooze in place of Relics.
On another note, how's the ewitness been working out for you?? I haven't played one in my MB since my first iteration of modern elves.
@Syreal94 Are you still running the same list you posted about a month ago? I'd be interested to hear your about sideboard. How have the 3x Natural State you are/were running worked out?
I've been running a one of 'Elves of Deep Shadow' over a fourth 'Elvish Mystic' for awhile now, and have been quite underwhelmed. It's nice to have the extra black source for 'Thoughtseize', 'Stain the Mind' or Shaman, but it doesn't always make opening hands appealing...
Has anyone tried this out yet? Would love to hear your thoughts.
Also, congrats to everyone for making tier two! Glad to see we're getting some better recognition.
