My thoughts on the new fast land is as follows:

20 land, Naya, no Zendikar fetch access:
    4 Mountain
    8 red Khans fetches
    2 Copperline Gorge
    2 Inspiring Vantage
    2 Sacred Foundry
    2 Stomping Grounds

    R20
    W12
    G12

    20 land, Naya, all fetches:
    11 red fetches
    3 Mountain
    2 Stomping Ground
    2 Sacred Foundry
    1 Copperline Gorge
    1 Inspiring Vantage

    R20
    W14
    G14

Having no Zendikar fetches and knowing the earliest a standard reprint would happen will be Amonkhet, the top option is most likely for me. 12 is the number of sources needed for single color to be played on T3, which is generally when we are looking to be playing Helix or Charm anyway. 2 mountains could be replaced w the other 2 copies of Inspiring Vantage to give better odds
Of an on time Kor Forewalker in games 2 and 3.

Run three Windswept Heaths if you don't want to pony up for the Arid Mesas. I personally don't want to run any of the fast lands as I don't want a land to come in tapped. Obviously x3 WHs aren't going to be as consistent as x3 AMs but the different in price is worth a little less of the consistency.

What are you thinking about using the RHs for?

Lathnu Hellion is a card we are going to have to look at. 3 mana for a potential 8 damage. 4 on turn 3, 4 on turn 4 before it finally needs to be sacrificed. With the current aggro heavy meta I don't know if it will be viable or not, especially since 3 mana is at the utmost limit of what we want to spend. If it had trample I'd say without a doubt it would be run but it doesn't so that calls it's ability into light.

What do you guys think? I have no doubt that this card will be tried.

If the card had trample I think it would be worth consideration however, at 3 mana and no trample, I think it would be a prime creature to chump block and/or getting Pathed. Playing Lathnu Hellion and having it get Pathed right away is probably not going to feel good.

    Hey everyone,

Ive been doing a lot of play testing using my mono red burn and have a bit of feedback regarding ash zealot.

While she is really sweet, I have come to the conclusion that she just isn't fast enough. The problem lies in her 2 mana cost. I would much rather have a spark elemental followed up with a shard volley for the finish than a 2 mana burn spell that does 2 damage. With burn, we are either winning by turn 5, or we are playing as a pseudo control player against affinity or infect (moreso infect). I had High hopes for her, but alas, is is the right girl at the wrong time. Modern is a fast format.

She seems like she might be a decent sideboard card against decks that cast spells from their graveyards. The card is good if you can make use of the 3 damage trigger however, I don't think it is main deckable in mono-red.

Or at least get 1 S. Grounds in the main and 4 revelry in the board and run mono until after sb. But it could be an auto lose if anyone mains them. I main them in my turbofog for burn, planeswalkers, 1/2 of ad nauseums win cons, 8 rack, storm, scapeshift. Plus if someone brings E. Ideal, they will have them main too. But most will have it sb so id say just run mono with 1 S. Grounds and revelry sb if you dont want to seriously invest in boros burn

My plan is to get a set of Sacred Foundry, a set of Clifftop Retreat, and two Battlefield Forges to cheaply get into Boros Burn without investing in any of the fetches. I know in the final iteration of the deck I won't use the Clifftop Retreats but at the moment, it's cheaper than investing in the fetch lands.

After my third place finish, I acquired 1 Sacred Foundry and both Battlefield Forges so I am already on my way!

KTK fetches are at the lowest price they're going to be for a long time. So now is the time to buy them. You don't need Arid Mesa, and you can easily run Boros with Foothills and Mire.

What would be an ideal mana base for Boros Burn without Arid Mesa?

If you were referring to me there were 4 LoS sideboarded in my game against Boggles. He just never drew them. I would suspect the next time I play there may be more LoSs in sideboards. At that point, I'll sink the money to create the Boros Burn deck.

Played Modern for the first time ever and used my budget mono-red burn build at my LGS MNM and took 3rd (2-1) out of 8 people! I was pretty stoked about this not knowing what the meta would be at my LGS.

Round 1 - Some jank dragon deck - Win (2-0)
On the play. The first deck I played against was just way too slow for burn. I had him at turn 4 and turn 5 both games with all spells going to the face. I did keep a risky mulligan to 6 on the draw with no lands with five 1 drops and one 2 drop. My scry wasn't a land so the card went to the bottom and I got lucky with my first two draws being lands.

    Round 2 - Affinity - Lost (1-2)
On the play. I probably didn't play this matchup as well as I could since I am still very unfamiliar with a lot of what Affinity does but basically game one he lifelinked out of my potential burn range with having a mainboard copy of Welding Jar to save his Vault Skirge from my targeted burn. Game two I sided in 2 Smash to Smithereens and 2 Searing Blood. The card that won me the game was the Searing Blood turn 2 to remove his Vault Skirge, essentially 2 for 1ing him, and not having to deal with lifelink the rest of the game. Game 3 he was on the play and got out both Spellskite and Vault Skirge with me not having the appropriate answers (although Spellskite just wrecks my deck in general).

    Round 3 - Boggles - Won (2-1)
On the play. Game 1 I won by using well timed Skullcracks to negate their life gain and by the opponent sacrificing a fetch land to get me the 1 additional point of damage I needed to burn him down. Game 2 I sided in 4 Flames of the Blood Hand. He won game two as I wasn't able to stop his lifegain being on the draw and not drawing the cards to prevent lifegain. However, I would have won if he didn't draw a lifegain enchantment so quickly. Game 3 I was able to get down two Eidolon of the Great Revels on turn 2 and turn 3 which really disrupted his gameplan of playing cheap enchantments for no lifecost. Turn 4 I played my Flames of the Blood Hand to prevent his lifegain and got him on the crack back. He did sideboard in 4 copies of Leyline of Sanctity but thankfully never drew them in his opening hand.

I had a lot of fun playing Modern for the first time. With the in-store credit I won, I started acquiring the mana base for the Boros Burn build which is what I am going to upgrade the deck into first. Here was the deck I ran last night:

Since it seems like Affinty is pretty popular at my LGS, I would probably go +2 Smash to Smithreens and -2 Leyline of Punishment as a sideboard change. If I see Dredge pop up, I'll add another Grafdigger's Cage.

Question about the upgrade path from mono-red burn to Naya Burn. My only mono-red upgrade (and first upgrade) would be transitioning from Spark Elementals to Goblin Guides. What secondary color would be best to transition to first for both the main and sideboard and what lands should I target for the upgrade path?

Here is the budget deck I put together trading in standard staples for 1 Grim Lavamancer, 2 Eidolon of the Great Revel, 4 Monastery Swiftspear, 1 Rift Bolt, 4 Lightning Bolts, and 2 Aggressive Mining. I won't put Aggressive Mining into my sideboard just something to keep around. For $86, I was able to purchase the rest of the deck. I realize that Leyline of Sanctity will wreck this version of mono-red burn but I'm just trying to put together a modern burn deck that can be competitive.

If I find that local meta at the store I play at uses Leyline of Sanctity, I can change my sideboard to include Molten Rain, more Searing Bloods, Cryoclasms, and/or Peak Eruptions to do indirect damage. If that doesn't work, then I'll look to get a set of Stomping Grounds, 3 other Windswept Heaths, and a set of Destructive Revelry. I have a feeling this won't be the issue but with the strong showing of Dredge at the SCG Open, I might add another Grafdigger's Cage.

My upgrade path with be 4 Goblin Guides > Fetch and Shock Lands > Atarka's Command and Boros Charm > Deflecting Palm and Destructive Revelry for sideboard options.

    Hi Folks!
Glad to post my update for our deck. I added Oath of Chandra and Kozilek's Return
In my opinion, Oath of Chandra is the best response to the Dromoka's Command. On the other hand we put 3 damage to the Sylvan Advocate and other creatures with toughness 3 or less or we put 3 damage and then finish off creatures by Chandra, Flamecaller. And finally, when any of our planeswalkers enters the battlefield, at the end of turn, we put additional damage to our opponent.
About Kozilek's Return. After testing, I realized one thing that when we play against aggressive decks we must destroy their creatures and not bounce their. However, in the case of Always Watching we may combine bounce with destroy spells.
About Ramp deck. A combination of Aligned Hedron Network and Blessed Reincarnation is the best solution against Ramp. In my latest build I removed the cards against Ramp, because the my meta was changed.

Have you tested this deck out yet?

Ive unfortunately had a bit harder time testing it lately. My friends that I play with outside of FNM obviously dont want to keep playing a deck that constantly bounces stuff. Its definitely a trolly deck to play against.

Overall for the deck, I think we have given a pretty thorough breakdown to it and discussed the cards available to us. I believe as UR Fevered Bounce Control community, we can all probably agree that this deck is Tier 2, and we are all fairly comfortable with the deck itself now. Beyond that it is just reacting to the changes of the Meta. Mine is still heavy in WW and GW Tokens, which has been fairly easy for me with the original 2 color core.

Moving forward for this thread, I think the biggest things that will be discussed are the following:
    - Advising and talking to new folks that pick up the deck with their questions regarding the current meta.
    - Posting updates of success/failures as the meta evolves.
    - Posting discussions about adapting to the evolving meta, and revisiting cards in accordance to that.

Without being T1, this deck wont ever be as popular as some of the other decks, and therefore may not have the constant stream of input other decks/threads have. I will definitely continue to keep this deck close and keep an eye on it, however until my meta shifts around I dont have too much to add. I have fairly good results with the deck as is, but based on results yall have mentioned, other shifts could make those less, and I will need to adapt.

    True

I like the Mono Blue Brain in a Jar Deck. We had talked about Rise from the Tides before and it is cool to see the synergy with that and Part the Waterveil in that deck. Maybe the deck needs more card draw and creature tap than control like the Brain in a Jar Deck seems to be. Ultimately, our deck isn't as control-ly as the Brain in a Jar deck and lacks the finishing combo that the deck has. I still think that Thing in the Ice, Chandra, Flamecaller, Sphinx of the Final Word, and Burn from Within all have a place in this deck to help finish games. Maybe with the help of a finisher and playing the deck more for draw than control this would have better success. I will still test this deck out and hopefully find some success trying to add the finishers and shifting more towards a draw/tap down deck like the Mono Blue Brain in a Jar.

Has anyone given any additional thought to this deck or have other decks out valued this deck to the point where its viability is questionable?

I never saw this deck as a budget deck at all when I built it, and haven't noticed any budget talk really other than not wanting to buy cards that are undecided on.

I do agree that we have a problem finishing *heyyyyy* lol, but I think there are a few ways to deal with with. I think Chandra or Burn from Within are probably the best within a UR shell. Thought-Knot Seer and TiTi also have their appeal, but enable removal. TITI helps bounce and is easy, TKS is a bit slow clock, but it more controlly, exiling trouble cards and refilling their hand from removal.

I still think splashing black would be a good idea considering how much it gives us for our HORRIBLE match ups. Infinite Obliteration fixes Ramp and to a lesser extent GB Aristocrats, they aren't too much trouble without Zulaport.

We could even splash Green for... sarkhan unbroken.

I like Accursed Witch with the Fevered Visions synergy if you go black. I know it is a creature but you want it to die so it turns into an enchantment Smile

I'm not saying Chandra is the solution but I think because the deck plays very slow, we should be able to use her and cast her reliably if we can draw her. Like I said, I think we need to figure out cards that can essentially speed up the clock that Fevered Visions provides. I know people want to splash black or white but I'm not sure that will help solve the finishing issues this deck seems to have. I will go over some red and blue cards to see if I can generate a list of closers for the deck.

Keep up the good work guys!
