As someone who likes consistency between cards, I love that this is getting a non future sight printing. Now I can grab a playset for my hatebears.

While I love Abzan Liege (I ran it for quite some time) since it's mid-range, heavy on creatures, and is very flexible, the deck really feels like a stepping stone until you get your goyfs and LotVs. For a $1000 deck, I would've loved if it put up more results.
Renegade Rallier does feel like a good card but might not be right in this deck. I haven't tested it though.

    Personal thoughts on the deck:
I don't like the idea of running 4 mana dorks total, feels very clunky as you're more likely to draw Noble Hierarch than have her in your opening hand. I would suggest either go with 6-7 discard or 6-7 mana dorks.
My preferred mana sequence was G->W->B which always worked for me as you get to drop something every turn but in your case if you start with black, it could get awkward to drop Voice of Resurgence which is arguably your best 2 drop.
I don't like Anafenza, the Foremost over Loxodon Smiter because this deck is designed to beat Jund and Loxodon is the reason they don't tick up Lili.

Tolerink, World Smasher needs a fix. Compare it to Deus of Calamity and you should get a good idea of what a balanced card looks like.

  • posted a message on Found a REALLY strange random card generator the other day...
This generator is awesome. Some are broken:
    Sorcery (black)
    draw seven cards

    Converted mana cost: 1

Creature - Zombie Faerie Rogue (3/3, black)
    Flying
When ~this~ is returned to its owner's hand, target opponent may pay 1. If that player does, you may return any number of creature cards from your graveyard to hand
T, Sacrifice ~this~: destroy target nonblack creature

    Converted mana cost: 1

    Some are funny:
    Land
T: add W to your mana pool. Spend this mana only on spells.
--His ball chases better than the wisest bomb
    – 4chan, the false
    <---- lol

Creature - Human Rogue (2/3, blue)
U: you may tap or untap target library <-- but why?
you may cast blue spells by paying ''Discard a instant card'' rather than paying their mana cost

    Converted mana cost: 3

and some are just plain bad:
    Sorcery - Generated (black)
target opponent reveals the top one cards of his or her library. that player puts a card from among them into hand, and exiles the rest.
--The bravest flower made of iron grounds a skate
Although a voyage is mightier than the best tent
    – Vitenka

    Converted mana cost: 7

Hey, someone is selling an Affinity deck for $500 when the whole list goes for $750 on TCG. Now I don't actually need Affinity but the price is very tempting. What do you guys think? Is it worth buying affinity at that price now or do you think it will go down? Some cards are foiled like 5DN Cranial Plating and MRD Orthinopter.
Here is the TO link with the full list + condition.

Do you play Modern? Do you want to? I find Affinity to be a pretty fun deck that generates a lot of tough decisions (mostly "Do I sac my board for a lethal attack, or do I let him draw another card?"). If you're thinking about playing the deck, I'd go for it (I presume that you have none of these cards already). It's possible (likely, in fact) that we'll see some reprints in MM17, but those won't crater the prices of your top cards. Mox Opal just got reprinted twice (MM15 and Kaladesh Invention), so that's not likely to get another go. Ravager and Inkmoth are the ones that are in the danger zone.

Also note that you're spending about $100 to upgrade some cards to foil. If that's relevant to you.

If you're not going to play the deck (or lend it out), and you're just going to let it sit as an investment vehicle, I'd hold off. I'm very bearish on Modern cards.

Thanks for the reply. I do play Modern but I only have one tier 1 deck (Infect) so i'm contemplating getting another t1 deck. If I buy this I will most likely keep it as a lender or play it every now and then. I'm also planning on trading the foils for non-foils (I'm not big on foils) and just like you, I'm really worried about Arcbound Ravager, it should see a reprint soon.

Question on promo cards like BaB Birds of Paradise and WMCQ Abrupt Decay. Is it ever worth buying these cards now? Thing is, WMCQ Abrupt price history can't be found anywhere, I don't know if it's been going up or down.

A very interesting list, indeed. I have to ask, how useful is it to have a 2 of Thoughtseize MD? Seems unnecessary. I did goldfish the deck on TO and it is surprisingly consistent getting 3 colored mana on t2/t3. I was skeptic at first given the 3 Gavony Townships. Regarding Distended Mindbender, he seems very expensive even if you sac a mana dork, you still need to pay 5 mana.

    *snip*
*Regarding Dredge, I played it last night at FNM to see what the fuss was about. It rarely kills on turn 3 and never sooner, but it is incredibly resilient. It felt a bit too strong, even for this format, although it's only 1 FNM and 2 weeks of testing the Mom Hug list so far. (Just an early inclination.)

ive yet to see anyone argue a dredge ban on the basis of t4 violations. the deck needs to go because it can win quickly, through disruption, through hate, is impossible to beat without playing the fastest decks in the format, and even then is is capable of just racing those decks. it needs to be banned in the same way eldrazi needed to be banned, granted not to the same degree, but on the same principle. it has too many good matchups, and its bad matchups are not actually bad matchups, just less good

Yesterday I won my FNM and won against Dredge(me on Infect as always) in the final without even drawing my one of Grafdigger's Cage. This waw against a VERY, VERY experienced player who has attended 40 GP's and Day 2'd A LOT of them across ALL of the formats. Thing is, though, I watched it win against Burn and stuff. I have a win rate of 70% of winning against it. This is all just to show I have no agenda, really, for the deck. And I felt it was OK 4 months ago. I think it needs to go for this reason:

The deck is bad for the format. It's bad because it's making all of the good, interactive spells like Bolt, Terminate, Decay, Pulse, Liliana, etc, etc seem awful.

Wouldn't this also be an argument for WotC to print better interactive/hate spells for modern? Simply banning a deck because it combines superior resiliency, speed, and consistency to other decks doesn't feel right. I admit, it's very frustrating when everything you play isn't enough to stop the deck. I personally switched from Abzan to Infect because midrange decks feel weak right now.

The deck looks very similar to the direction Junk is heading, bar LotV. I would say his list is closer to Junk than Abzan liege.

    Warangel88, is that you?

    I lol'd

To be fair, FNM is not a casual event. How can you expect people to play casual decks when you have entry fees and money prizes in these events?
Personally, I always want to play with my casual mill deck but I can't bring myself to pay 15 AUD (yup, it's a pretty expensive entry fee) and win nothing. Losing feels bad and losing because you wanted to play a casual deck feels even worse.

Thank you for the insight guys.

Can somebody explain to me what's going on in this @ 12:45? He seems to use vines of vastwood on the opponent's spellskite to resolve 2 groundswells for lethal. Does this actually work, the spellskite cannot redirect those groundswells? I thought you people used vines of vastwood on opponent's creatures to fizzle pump spells, so I'm kind of confused. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CTd_gvcW9Y

No it doesn't work, very bad ruling since the answer is on the card itself, no real need for a judge here.

Can you elaborate? It looks like vines of vastwood makes the opponent's spellskite unable to target itself thus cannot redirect groundswell. Am I understanding this wrong?

Is it ever viable to play Lost Legacy naming Eternal Scourge targeting yourself to effectively draw 8 cards?
Edit: Drawing between 4-8 cards for 1BB in a BGx deck is excellent. It's much more powerful than any other draw spell I can think of.
No cause you would need to have 4x Eternal Scourge in your hand which is not very likely and even if it happens you are kind of in the back foot.

Oh, misread that part. Yeah, it's pretty bad then.

There is a reason we play Ghost Quarter, it doesn't just hate on tron, it activates Archive Trap for us, the drawback becomes a plus, similarly with Path to Exile. If you don't want to run white, you can definitely test out an Archive Trapless deck. Also, there is a big difference between Glimpse the Unthinkable and Breaking, you only need 2 glimps to activate Visions of Beyond, breaking won't do it alone and you won't always get Hedron Crab.
