Welcome back Castle! Do you have Skype? Would you like to become a part of our group skype chat? Would you like to answer a question at the chance of winning a million dollars?
I don't have skype, but by all means throw the million-dollar question out there and I'll take a swing at it...

    Librarian 2UB
    Creature - Human Advisor (R)
As Librarian enters the battlefield, name any number of characteristics of a card. (An object's characteristics are name, mana cost, color, color indicator, card type, subtype, supertype, expansion symbol, rules text, abilities, power, toughness, loyalty, hand modifier, and life modifier.)
T: Reveal your library. Target opponent searches it for a card that has all of the named characteristics. Put that card into your hand, then shuffle your library.
"Tell me exactly what you're looking for."

    Love it! Grin

I can't help but feel it would be more fun if you were forbidden from using the card's name as a descriptor... Aside from pissing off one's opponent, there would be no reason to list any other characteristics. Not being allowed to simply name the required card would force the user to not only have a good working knowledge of the cards in their deck, but also to give a more detailed description of the required card to ensure they get the right one.

CASTLE! Long time no see! Hopefully you'll be back on more regularly, I can't even remember the last thread you were a regular in.
Probably not since before the Dracovitch Dynasty. Parenthood + Death of Desktop Computer + StupidMotherLoving iPhone Forum Interface = Not a lot of forum activity.

BTW Jen, if any of the stereotypical Australia stuff is true, it's the native wildlife he should be worried about.
Hence why I asked where he was planning on travelling. Chances are most stereotypes are true somewhere in the country. That said, don't bother packing your kangaroo-riding pants or extra shrimp for the barbie. Wink

Funny timing, that, Castle. My friend is headed on a trip to Australia next month. Any special precautions I should warn him to take with the natives?
Just watch out for the drop-bears... Sneaky

Seriously though, do you know where in Australia he's planning to visit? As a general rule the natives (I'm assuming by this you mean Australians, not Aborigines specifically) are pretty easy-going.

*pokes* since when has this pack been subtle about anything?
    Good point.

So, what does everyone think of being back in Ravnica? I'm stoked, although it bugs me that I haven't had the opportunity to actually try out any of the new cards. Loving what I've read of Rakdos so far. I tried mocking up a cheap BRG aggro deck, but goldfishing has proven a bit awkward so far. I think I've just been out of the game too long, I've lost my instinct for what would get a pass mark. :/

why oh why are my forums green, I hate it. Is it like this for everybody? Was I just not paying attention and it's been like this for a year?
You don't like it? I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it just then, but now that you have I'm quite keen on it.

Welcome back too! *glomps Castle* cookie? *holds out cookie* :cookie:Cheers *shakes hands with cookie*

I thought I'd dispense with the grand entrance this time, probably safer just to acknowledge the fact that I come and go fairly randomly these days (although perhaps "these years" might be more apt). I now have a reliable Internet connection at home, so hopefully being able to use an actual keyboard (*sheds a joyful tear in the face of sweet mercy*) instead of my iPhone will assist me in contributing more often. Alright guys, time to play everyone's favorite game

Custom Card Ideas. Or rather in this case mechanics.

New way of casting spells. The idea being that mana from the world doesn't cast the spell, but special mana that your own body generates. "Soul mana" if you will. I toyed with the idea of making a whole new mana type and template but I don't have the skill to actually create these things. Though I am not opposed to such ideas if you have them.

    Has to follow these rules.

    • No life loss
    • No sacrifices
    • It can be (but doesn't have to be) restricted to board states (IE can only be cast if you control a creature)
Hmmmm... tough to think of something that hasn't already been done, but also doesn't require actually changing the rules of the game... Still, they say that restriction breeds creativity, so here goes nothing:

Forcecast N (you may cast this without paying its mana cost. The next N spells you cast that share a colour with this are countered.)
The flavour of this is that everyone has a certain amount of mana of any given colour bottled up inside them, which is what's being spent when spells are being cast in this way. A blue spell with a high value for N (a counter effect would be a good example) uses up a lot more of your inherent blue mana, forcing you to forego a certain amount of blue magic before you can do any more.

I'm absolutely certain that my wording is riddled with errors (the rules have probably changed since I last played anyway), and most likely there a couple of rules issues such as memory that have to be dealt with. That's for you guys to sort out, I'm not even going to try. Wink

EDIT: Also requires a new name that doesn't look so much like "forecast" at a glance. :p
Perhaps "primalcast"? The feel I was trying to get across is that it's internal mana that not everyone knows they have. It's primal, instinctive and raw.

Oh trust me I can bring you up to speed very quickly on the new cool stuff.
Cool, fire away. Last set I actually played with was New Phyrexia, I seems to remember having and aggro GB Poison deck that I was reasonably happy with.

Yay Castle is back! It's so good to see you again my friend. We've missed you greatly! Grin
I've missed you guys too. I really do hope I'll be able to stay active this time.

Castle, I believe we have met, but I have never formally introduced myself. I've been with the Pack since last year, midway through. It's a pleasure to meet you, sir.
Likewise. I do remember you joining the clan, but unfortunately it was right when my forum activity was dropping off.

EDIT: Considering I've been gone so long and the clan has continued to grow in the meantime, I should probably introduce myself properly to the newer members.

My name's James (or Jim/Jimmy/Jimbo), I've played MtG since the early nineties but have well and truly lost track of the game in the last couple of years. I consider myself reasonably old-school, but this may just be an excuse for being crap at any aspect of the game that's come to prominence in the last decade. My favourite colours are green, black, red and white in that order. My favorite decks are my RG beatdown, WB highlander, GB fungus and WG Lightning Coils decks. Blue is, in my opinion, the antithesis of fun, the only exception to that rule being my mono-blue Sligh deck. Wink

Outside of MtG, I'm passionate about music, football (Australian Rules, not gridiron, rugby or soccer), food & wine, as well as the motor industry. I value friendship and honesty above most things, and despite my long absence I genuinely consider many members of this clan to be friends. On that note, I'd like to go on record in saying how stoked I am that the clan's still going strong - Kudos to Seth and Silence, the Pack is in good hands. Smile

I like nothing more than a joke, so please don't take offense at anything I say that might seem a little off-colour. I also have occasionally lapsed into proxy father-figure mode, and I can't imagine that this will have changed since actually becoming a father. Wink

I suppose the answer is yes, but did everyone else have the server down for a while?
So that wasn't just me? That hit while I was trying to submit that last post (which took over an hour to type up). Fun times contemplating doing it all over again...

So are you here to stay (again?) or are you just stopping in?
We'll see. I'd love to say that I'm back for good, but I have so little free time, and it takes a lot of time to read and post on my iPhone. :/

Also, I'm so far behind on MtG that it's seriously hard to keep up on some of the discussions, but I'll do my best. You'll just have to forgive me if I occasionally turn into the MTGSalvation equivalent of the old-timer rocking on his porch with a shotgun, pining for the old days (and occasionally yelling at kids to get off the damn lawn).

I've been ok, a card shop opened up here again, so I've been getting back into magic. Heading off to theater camp tomorrow, so I'll be posting less on here for awhile.
Great to hear that you're still enjoying your theatre. Been in any good productions lately?

Thanks. It's Tattermunge Maniac, enchanted by Rancor and targeted by Psychotic Fury. Zaph did the photoshopping.

It has been an eternity o.o Hello there!

    Quote from Seth Dracovitch
HOLY MOTHER OF **** IT'S CASTLE!!!!!!

    How have you been!
Hi guys! Life's been good, but I'm so tired it's ridiculous. Who would have thought parenthood would place such demands on your time? Not that Audrey's a handful, she's absolutely perfect... Almost fourteen months old now, sleeping right through every night and very happy during the day. She can say a few words now (Mum, Dad, Nan, cat, up and that), and took her first steps yesterday morning!

On the flip side, I wake up every morning with either a Wiggles song or a children's TV show theme stuck in my head that can't be dislodged until after lunch, and even then it's usually replaced by another Wiggles song. :p

    How's everyone here?

P.S. You shouldn't be that surprised to see me, Seth... It was the friend requests from you and Silence that brought me back. Wink

I vote for Chess Decks too, if my vote still counts for anything around here...

How the he'll is everyone? It feels like an eternity since I dropped by.

Soo... I should ask the question... What's this "League of Legends" that I'm hearing so much about?

  • posted a message on The [Pack]: Transforming One Wolf at a Time.
Heh... No, I've not witnessed that personally, Landfall came along just as my active involvement in MtG was drawing to a close, but I can imagine it would be pretty painful. :p

I've always gone for a more machine-type combo deck, every time I've tried to play anything like Storm I'd find myself getting bored during my own turn. Wink
