Hi guys, I need your expert opinions again, I have been using the tool box tron for 2 FNMs now this last 2 weeks and it has been performing great for me. I just have a dilemma on my sideboard if I should go down to 7 artifacts(currently running 9 right now). I don't miss thought-knot seer but I do miss surgical extraction and spacial contortion.
Week 1: 3-0
Round 1, 2-1 against burn
Round 2, 2-1 against bgx midrange
Round 3, 2-0 against ponza
Week 2: 3-1
Round 1, 0-2 against infect
Round 2, 2-0 against bgx midrange
Round 3, 2-1 against bant spirits
Round 4, 2-1 against mono blue tron
Now the dilemma, I feel that I want either 2 surgical extractions or 2 spacial contortions in my sideboard, first question, what to cut for them and why? and second, would 1 spacial contortion and 1 surgical extraction be good? deep down I feel I want 2 spacial contortions. Thank you everyone in advance!
Hi guys, looking for suggestions on a good sideboard guide for most of the tier 1 decks currently out there right now and what do you guys think of the list and sideboard guide by Jim Davis posted at coolstuffinc? or maybe anyone has a link for sicsmoo's updated guide if there is a new one? I've been going back and forth from G-Tron and RG/Bant/Tron Eldrazi decks for years now and i simply want to focus on G-Tron right now and get a refresher. My last 5 weeks of play was pretty bad starting from 2-3, 2-2-1, 2-3, 2-2-1 and 2-3 respectively each week. I feel i need to review some stuff again as the articles i've focused on reading before was from the time of RG, BG and GW Tron. Thanks in advance mates.
Hi guys, first of thank you Jordan for all your guides I am really enjoying the deck. I am having a hard time againt's a few decks in my local game store and i am seeking advise or tips againt's Humans specifically. I am using Jordan's Pre-Dominaria list and i have not beaten this guy for a couple of games now. I can't help but feel i always run out of gas and then we always end up in a stand still until he gets his flyers out late game and me having used up my removals on his other creatures or they simply just snowball and grow fast that i can't even attack at all. I have been playing this deck for about a month now and what i use to run before was GX Tron and Eldrazi Tron. I swore to lock them both up inside my cabinet until i get to master Jordan's Serum Eldrazi. All help will be very much appreciated and more power to you all spaghetti lovers!
How are you sideboarding?
-4 Simian Spirit Guide and -4 Chalice of the Void, +3 Spatial Contortion, +1 Gut Shot and +4 Ratchet Bomb, I also +/- Waste and Gemstone Caverns depending if I am on the draw or on the play.

When I take a look at your losses, I see a pretty common trend: you're mostly losing to aggressive, creature-based decks. That's where Vapor Snag shines - bring those in, move Chalice of the Void to the sideboard, and I think you'll see your results improve.
Also, welcome to the community! I'm glad we've been able to help you get started.
Thanks a lot rothgar13! Everyone here has been a big help!
I will be joining another event on Saturday and taking in consideration what you have said i am planning on playing with these.
LGS
6 players, 2nd place 2-1(won over burn, stompy green. defeated by some red creature deck.)
12 players 3rd place 3-1(won over burn, naya burn and some GR land destruction deck. defeated by affinity)
6 players 4th place 1-2(won over burn, defeated by RG tron and affinity.)
LGS
106 players, 44th place 4-3(won over RG delver/dredge of some sort,USA delver/storm chaser deck of some sort, tooth & nail and some knightfall like deck. defeated by a red creature deck with vexing devils, affinity and infect.)
I felt that spell pierce was not helpful(or i am not really sure how to use it) for me during my early play testings and vapor snag due to my practice buddy having boggles(this is rampant in my country too) i felt it was so weak. This was before i joined these events which is why i decided to use 3 main board chalice since it is very strong versus most decks in our current meta.
But i feel that due to those 3 chalice main board i lost focus on what an aggro Merfolk should be like. Any idea on what to do? i plan to put them on the side board and probably try using 4 spell pierce main board? Thanks in advance!
Ill be posting the results of my Merfolk journey. I started to use 3 chalice of the void main deck but right now i am thinking of putting them on the side board and focus mainly on being an aggro deck. I did not use vapor snag and spell pierce before since i have chalice on my main board.
Hi everyone. I finally decided to break my "forum lurker" status and come out in the open and ask for advise from everyone. I am from the Philippines so our meta is a little different than yours.
Just a little back ground for myself. I already left Magic: The gathering 2 times. my first competitive deck was a Necropotence deck back in the days and we call the format type 1 before i stopped playing. I came back and played legacy or was that vintage? i was using a Reanimator deck which revolved around Iona shield of emeria and some nasty praetors.
I decided to come back and play modern November last year and I was looking for a deck that would suit me and i found this primer which was just newly recreated at that time and decided to join the Merfolk community(I swallowed it all hook, line and sinker thanks to rothgar13's primer). I was able to complete my cards by the end of December and the plan was to start joining events in 2016. I have been reading this primer daily from page 1 and I would like to thank everyone for those wonderful insights which I was able to learn a lot from. I have also been watching Nikachu's and Mrs Mulligans videos.
