Barbarian Ring keeps moving for me. Sometimes in Sideboard, Sometimes in Main, Sometimes out of the 75. I'm not sure how I like it. Sometimes it is a great removal or win con land. Other times it is useless. I kind of like it in the main at first, but it is usually boarded out due to incoming graveyard removal. However, it is needed for Sanctum Prelate depending on your D&T meta. I like playing as if it is a big event though, and thus always like to have it somewhere as a toolbox piece.
I was hoping someone in here may still be lurking around the forums to help me out. I am trying to build a Vintage deck with leftover Legacy pieces. I would have access to power, but wouldn't want to invest into it until someone takes a look over my list.
I was having a lot of success with this deck only to now be frustrated because I have 0-2'd three tournaments in a row for a total of a 0-6 streak. I need some help and advice getting through.
Losses are from
3 Burn decks
2 Sneak and Show decks
1 U/B reanimator
There has to be something for the deck to get through combo and burn. I just can't seem to get wins against these decks. What's more frustrating is the pilots of these decks weren't even good players.
My list is very vanilla:
4 Crop rotation
4 Explore
4 Gamble
4 Life from the Loam
4 Mox Diamond
3 Punishing Fire
1 Molten vortex
1 Manabond
4 Dark Depths
4 Thespian Stage
3 Maze of Ith
1 The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
1 Glacial Chasm
4 Rishadan Port
4 Wasteland
1 Ghost Quarter
1 Bojuka Bog
1 Karakas
2 Taiga
1 Forest
4 Grove of the Burnwillows
3 Fetch lands
1 Tranquil Thicket
Sideboard -
4 Krosan Grip
4 Sphere of resistance
2 Chalice of the Void
1 Drop of Honey
1 Barbarian rRing
2 Tireless Tracker
1 Pithing Needle
Hey Guys, I am new to this thread and am entering a new competitive edh scene soon and have no Idea what the meta will be like, I am borrowing the cards off of a friend who has a very large collection and all the lands, Imperial seal etc and I was wondering if any of you guys could post an updated decklist that is fairly resilient but can also pull off a turn three combo most of the time.
Thanks.
Edit: I already have the cards for the list in the first post and so just need a list of additions and removals.
Thanks again.
Here is my list. It has been doing well. It is by no means a definitive list. It is a great list for winning tickets in pods at GPs. Terrible for playing with friends due to the degeneracy, "no fun" mentality, and lack of interaction for some decks. Sorry this is not in any coherent order. Just pulled my deck out and typing it out. Trying to put cards by function together.
High Ticket cards that aren't necessarily needed are Grim Tutor, Jace the Mind Sculptor, Snapcaster Mage (Though price may have dropped after MM17 reprint). A lot of the cards I owned from legacy so I just threw them in here. Remember, do not bother investing in the deck if you plan to play it for fun games with friends. It becomes a one trick pony real fast and gets boring. For the cost of the deck, I doubt it will be worth it unless you really try to break even at GPs. Unless your friends also have degenerate decks like mine, then go ahead and play it.
Commander: General Tazri (for Food Chain Combo Win Con)
10 Dual Lands
10 Fetch Lands
10 Shock Lands
Strip Mine
Mana Confluence
City of Brass
Command Tower
Volrath's Stronghold
I need some help with the sideboard plan with this deck. I understand it game 1, but have a difficult time "meta-gaming" the sideboard pieces. I have now learned to always expect Rest in Peace from White/Miracles decks, and always expect Leyline of the Void from Black/Combo decks, and Blood Moon against Red/Sneak Attack Decks. So board in KGrips even if I don't see those hate pieces game one. Expect to see it after game one. Otherwise, I really do not know how to sideboard other than using Channel Fireball's Guide.
my SB is
4 Krosan Grip
1 Song of the Dryads
1 Nissa Vital Force
4 Sphere of Resistance
1 Boil
2 Tireless Tracker
2 Molten Vortex
Song of the Dryads is cute. It really depends on the deck I'm facing. Generally I only expect leyline of the void from decks like Eldrazi and a lot of miracles decks are actually moving to surgicals to combat RB reanimator so I usually only see RIP against D&T and some less popular decks like Enchantress. I'd expect surgicals more often than anything else, especially from decks like grixis/4C delver and the leovold variants.
If you're really concerned about the graveyard hate that much, I'd consider a third tireless tracker in the Song of the Dryads spot, as they can steal games by getting you a bunch of card advantage without using the yard.
Thank you. I figured song of the dryads would be like having a fifth Krosan Grip.

Topic of Original Thread: [ What Legacy deck does not loose to Burn, Dredge, and Oops all Spells? ]
Topic ^^^
My local meta currently looks like 35% burn, 35% Oops all spells, and 25% dredge. The rest being everything else. What deck just takes care of the three decks? Same to assume anything with Force of Will and discard spells. Then sideboard out discard against Dredge?
I'm looking for established decks, not a specialized brew. I do want to play something that would be relevant at a larger meta.
So I have been running a 5 color Hermit Druid combo EDH deck for a few months now at the local game store tournament; it has been a pool of about 20 different decks.
My thoughts about Hermit Druid EDH:
- It's super great in the early game, but after turn 5 it needs an alternative win-con.
- I like the Angel of Glory's Rise, Lab Maniac combo shell instead of the Necrotic Ooze combo. It just seems like a safer win condition.
- You also become a big target at the table, and get a lot of disruption.
- General Tarzi may be the best commander for the deck because he provides an alternative win-con for the mid game when Hermit Druid gets too much disruption. http://landdestruction.com/competitive-general-tazri-edh/
The initial list I got was for 1 v 1 and have made some changes to make it more multiplayer friendly. It looks like our lists are very similar. Its 4am here so I will get it together tomorrow. I think it still needs some tuning. It feels amazingly explosive at times, and at other times very awkward. I think the biggest problem is the cost of entry for the deck, so there is not a lot of testing going on out there.
What is the difference among Highlander, Canadian Highlander, EDH and Commander?
I am a little confused. From my understanding EDH and Commander are the same thing but different names. Also, Canadian Highlander and Highlander are the same thing with different names.
And then to add to this, there are layers of different rules for each version. For example, EDH can be played with WoTC rules and ban list or the French rules and ban list.
However, I still do not understand what Highlander/Canadian Highlander is with the whole point system. And they seem to be two different formats, but I can't find the rules difference between the two.
I am gold-fishing the deck and have a rules question. If I have a LED and Petal on board. And have a Cabal Ritual, Dark Ritual, and Infernal Tutor in hand. Can I crack the LED and hold priority for all 3 instants?
1) Crack Lotus Petal and LED hold priority
2) Cast Dark Ritual hold priority, 6 Mana
3) Cast Cabal Ritual hold priority, 7 Mana (dont have Threshold)
4) Cast Infernal Tutor 5 Mana, get Ad Nauseam...hopefully get the win from there
PS: Here is my current list. Please let me know any suggestions. It is a pretty vanilla list.
Build mono red burn. If on a really low budget, find four slots for Goblin Guide. This list looks more like a commander deck than a legacy deck. First of all, limit it to 60 cards, there is a reason Battle of the Wits decks are not always winning.
So I know this thread has been dead for a little bit. Yet, I believe this list has some promise, and decided to build a version of my own to help along with the development. The only reason I feel this deck may not be established is because of the cost of Eurekas. The cost prevents people from testing it out on paper, which does not allow us to get enough feedback on the viability of the list. I believe this "Hogworts" list makes our mirror matches better, helps get through Death and Taxes which is a pain for regular Show and Tell decks, and is a smoother version than the U/R Omnitell decks. The U/R decks playing 3 Sneak Attack, 3 Omniscience, 3 Griselbrand, and 3 Emrakrul may just be a less consistent version of regular Show and Tell (4, 0, 4, 4) to simply get around an already miserable match up (Death and Taxes).
I also believe this list may be "better" than the regular Show & Tell list simply because Death and Taxes may show up a little more now that there have been new cards printed making the deck better, especially since D&T is a good match up against the already popular Miracles deck. Miracles can still be a tough matchup for this deck, but not impossible.
My list is heavily based on Joseph Herrera's and Iwasaki Kouichci's whom both top 4'd the SCG Premier IQ Indianapois and Known Magicians Clan 56th respectively.
One note, I would play with 4 Misty Rainforests if I had the other two. But I am also playing without any basic forest right now, which may change in the future. I will also add one more Emrakrul for the Inferno Titan when it comes back to me from a friend.
Sorry to bring this thread from the dead. But I was just searching the forums to figure out why Survival of the Fittest was banned in the first place. I was just looking at old legacy decks and saw the list. I was not playing legacy in 2010/2011 though, so I do not understand what was going on with it back then.
So why was Survival of the Fittest banned? Because after looking at the list now, it doesn't make sense that it is banned for the reasons you stated. There is a lot more graveyard hate now. And it doesn't seem like it is that fast of a deck compared to a lot of others in the format.
