Wizards of the Coast holds the patient on all possible trading card games:

    http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect2=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=/netahtml/search-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&d=PALL&RefSrch=yes&Query=PN/5662332

Will a perfect game be realistic? No, of course not, but people can make ones that are a blast for constructed play. Or.. appeal to a demographic of Trading Card Game Enthusiast that are not enjoying where Wizards is taking magic..

Sets that are 90% unplayable, like how I think SoI will turn out(And The Eldrazi Bloc turned out), are not that fun for constructed. I would go further out and say they are really hurting magic as a whole because of that.

Wizards/Hazbro's patent on the trading card game in it's entirety is a disaster for innovation and other possible new games(This is really un-debatable). Some of which would be terrible, ofcourse, but I feel some of them could turn out really well. Ive seen some great ones myself XD

lol, you can create new cards that do different things, but stick within a power range. It's possible, believe it or not. It just requires good development and people who understand the game =X

I see a desperate need for innovation in trading card games.

I would love to see a game that not only drafts well, but also has nearly all the cards to have a playable power level(So people can brew their own effective decks with themes they like).

That's very difficult to make work. Why you don't see it.

    That is irrelevant.

But on that subject: Ive known people who have made their own games, just for friends, and they achieved it. It is possible! Just because it may be hard for some people to comprehend, does not mean it is impossible, or that people should not be allowed to try to make their own games. We have some creative people here in America, it's a shame that they cant produce their ideas and games because of an overreaching patent.

Above that, I would like to see games that are more interactive with more decision trees based on flavor of the cards they are using. But we can agree to disagree then.

Morally, however, I think people should have the right to make their own trading card games. Patenting the trading card game is something that is to general to be patented without being bad for everyone(Just imagine if Ford had the patent on cars still?). I think people should have the right to make their own trading card games(That respect MTG's copyrights ofcourse)

I don't know about you, but I have seen many different trading card games in my day (YuGiOh, Pokemon, Star Wars etc.). Mind you, they weren't as popular as Magic, but still.
And I think it's MUCH too early to say that 90% of the cards are unplayable (in what kind of format anyway?).

Japanese have a different patent system, it's why we have seen things like Yugioh, Pokemon, ect ect. Star wars must of reached a deal with hasbro about it. But in America, we have next to no new American trading card games because of how Hasbro(Who owns Wizards of the Coast) used the MTG patent to be a patent on *every type* of trading card game. It's pretty ridiculous IMO, and it stifles innovation.

I think we've seen enough to see where this set is going, but I may be wrong, let us hope so.

This confirms to me this set is another dud.

These cards are crap, I'm beyond sad they ruined Innistrad and Zendikar.

It's a shame Wizards of the Cost have a patient on the Trading card game,I'm sure most of us here could design a much better set. I just want a fun game to play with many constructed/themed options. Magic was that, but now it isn't =/

Wow...just wow... After reading your post, i'm incredibly glad wizards has the patent and keep making great sets like this instead of the crap you would probably make that would kill the game.

90%+ of cards unplayable = great? Right.. I dont think anyone can reasonably claim these sets are anything close to good.

And no, they don't just have the patent for MTG, they have it for all trading card games o.o

Ever wonder why you don't see that many of them(Or exactly 'none' others from America?)? =X

Exactly right. Huntsmaster was everywhere in the t1(one of the larger decks was a r/g Primtetime/Huntmaster deck)

Vampires as a tribe got shafted more then warewolves, but warewoles didnt see much play unfortunately. That being said, I made a fun casual modern deck out of warwolves XD. I cant say the same about Vanpires, I hope they get some solid 1/2/3 drops finally

As long as WotC isn't printing cards on demand the secondary market will always exist. Even so it is cheaper than cracking packs for specific cards for decks.

Last year's cheap standard was the exception not the rule. Standard can be expensive to new players. Still cheaper than the other formats. Always been like that always will be. If you want cheap play pauper.

What I do not agree with is the collusion between the big online markets. Having information about future reprints and cards is also an issue. As long as money is apart of the game I don't see any real solution to that problem.

Jace being expensive is because they can. There is nothing in the that mana slot that does his job and how much power he adds to a deck. When you have no competition for power at that slot you can demand what ever people will pay.

I built a 70 dollar Human deck that went 4/0 several times(At the channel fireball game center, very competitive place) when I got into standard int he 1st Innistrad. Ofcourse, I did build a much more expensive deck later XD. But there have been cheap decks that can compete with the meta in most older rotations. This is an anomaly

Price is so absurd because most cards are *****(terribly developed), this wasnt the case back then

I'm beginning to wonder if it will not be banned. the GP it was the #1 most played card in the top 8. at SCG open both of the last 2 weeks its been the most played card in the top 8 by a wide margin having 9 of the top 16 decks run it last week. not sure if its enough to get it banned but if its not banned we need to get a 1 mana Graveyard hate card (ala Scabbling claws/relic of progenitus) and thats not even counting in the fact that Madness could break the card even worse. IDK but i'm yet to see how leaving this card is standard is any less detrimental than leaving splinter twins and bloom in modern when they were only 12% of the field.

Price hasn't been a factor in the past; in fact, many people believed that Jace, the Mindsculptor wouldn't be banned in Standard due to its price. That said, Stoddard seems to believe that Jace won't be as prominent once Fetchlands rotate out and the 4-color mana bases leave (Thus hypothetically reducing the number of decks that can play him). Of course, Jace is looking like it will still be one of the strongest cards come rotation, and with Madness (And Delerium) coming back, this is putting a *lot* of faith in the concept that the only reason one of the strongest cards in the format is played as heavily as it is is due to splashability alone.

Given that I also feel that Development has gotten down-right terrible at their job recently, and have misevaluated things almost beyond comprehension(While the current philosophy has also pushed a format where something like Jace is allowed to run away with itself). Keep in mind that BFZ standard was largely Development's making, which damn-near destroyed the format attendance-wise. Their concept of what is healthy for the game is almost laughably bad at this point.

As far as how I personally feel about Jace, I *really* don't like the way the format has grown on Jace's front. Either you are playing one of the 50% of decks that play a full playset of Jace, *or* you are forced to contort your deck significantly to be able to consistently deal with a turn 2 Jace (As he can flip, and be completely unmanageable, on turn 3; let alone providing huge value from that point). The card does have a pretty warping effect on the format, and its not a particularly healthy thing for a card to be represented in 50% of the field (And force other decks to contort to answering it starting on turn 2). I would say that if rotation weren't occuring, they *might* have considered a banning (Though this is by no means a certainty). It's hard to say *where* they draw the line, to be honest, and how much they are willing to let slide. Skullclamp was in about 75% of winning decks at its banning; the Raffinity bannings represented 45% of the metagame, but was relegated to a single deck; JtMS was... well, everywhere (Seriously; nearly every winning deck ran him); Stoneforge was banned as well, and represented something like 60% or so of the metagame decks.

Exactly, exactly. Newer players dont realize how bad MTG development has gotten because they cant compare these trash sets to the older ones.

It's downright depressing, and the worst thing is, Wizard's has the patent on the trading card game, so it's not like people can make a better one on their own(Whcih would be be very easy to do at this point IMO)

I love this game, but this MTG development team is killing me(And the game I fear)

I quit standard a few blocks ago, this is by far the worst standard ive ever seen in terms of fun sets and cards, and ive been playing competitively for almost 10 years.

Modern, before the Eldrazi Plague was always a blast(I havent played modern recently though), and I think it;s a great format. Wizards just keeps on messing up on the Modern Matsers, so modern prices are way to high IMO =/. It's a shame, it's a great format(Modern and legacy are the only 2 worth playing right now IMO).

The part that is exciting to me is the flash indestructible part. She is going to be like restoration angel was in the standard delver decks in the new thing in the ice decks. As for the flipping her goes it is slow because it doesn't even happen until the next upkeep. You could sidisi's faithful the turn after you play her, flip her on your opponents upkeep and then play another one though. Cool

Resto was 4 mana, this lady is 5. That's a *huge* difference. Resto is a much better card then this lady, unfortunately =/

I'll say this here to XD

This card is actually terrible, it does nothing you want a 5 mana card to do.

    5 mana for a 4/4 flyer with Vig/flash? Bad
5 Mana for a Indestructibly effect on a boros charm? Bad. Way to late(mana wise), all your guys have been killed already. Also way to expensive to dodge Bord wipes, which is by far the best part about those types of effects.
5 Mana for a ineffective beater(That dies with 1 removal spell) that can kill your own aggro strat? Bad

This card is a bad Control Beater, A Bad Mindrange card, and a terrible top end for a agro strat(With a huge liability with the flip)

I look at this card and I see something that has just been poorly designed. If instead of The Indestructibility ability, it has "When Archangel Avacyn enters the battlefield, Exile Target creature". And It's flip only hurt your enemies creatures, then I think it would be a fine card. It would be sorta okay for control, as it's a 5 mana kill spell with a 4/4 body with Vig on it, it would be okay as a top end in aggro because removing enemy fatties plus a flier is okay, and it would be great in mid-range.
