This thread sorely needs some actual data. Personal anecdotes are of little value in determining the actual trends, because each of us is a biased observer of a small sample size. I looked around a bit on google and the most recent I could find is that Magic as a whole was doing very well in 2013, was up 2% in 2014, and I can't find much since then. Their 2015 numbers probably aren't out yet.
As far as this site is concerned, a peak in traffic in December may explain your relative experience of short term decline. I don't think it's indicative of any long term trend, per say.
I think this might be playable in constructed. It doesn't do much damage, obviously. But the ability to tap something down and keep it down, when tempo matters, is big. It's only good on offense, since it doesn't tap on their turn without flashing or blinking. But if you are on offense, it will keep their best creature tapped down for you, until they kill it. Not bad for a 1 drop.
Huh, I was half-expecting New Jace to have some interaction with Clue tokens (+2: Activated abilities of Clues you control cost 2 less to activate until end of turn" or something better, I don't know). Instead, he's Generic Blue Walker that could be printed in literally any expansion.
