I've lost a lot of games to Aurelia, the Warleader, but she might be too expensive if you're looking for those really fast wins.

My buddy plays her control + effects that abuse her trigger. Extra combat spells, Strionic Resonator, double strike, a few equipments like Sunforger. Its surprising how quickly he can go from "buuuh im not doing anything" to one shotting people. And if another flying critter gets in your way you just remove it with your R/W nuking suite.

I'll give Aurelia another vote. In one EDH game, the guy with her accelerated into Aurelia on what must have been turn 4 or 5, soulbonded her to Silverblade Paladin, and equipped Umezawa's Jitte. I, uh, lost that turn.

It seems worth a shot, but you might want to slot your combo into a wider UR energy deck rather than an all-in combo. As a 4 card combo that requires two copies of one of its pieces, it's very difficult to assemble, and it can be disrupted by most artifact or creature removal. You also don't go off fast enough to not worry about protecting yourself, so it would be for the best of the combo were one of a few win conditions instead of THE win condition.

The main obstacle to vehicles becoming evergreen is that equipment is evergreen. While they play differently, evergreen vehicles would essentially fight for the same space as equipment. The number of equipment in Kaladesh attests to that. Unless Wizard's gripes about equipment become severe enough to shelve it like protection and regenerate, it's unlikely that vehicles would be allowed to compete with equipment in every set.

  • posted a message on a player made me question myself about jhoira.
Jhoira's activated ability exists independently of her card. The exiled card will keep suspend until it changes zones, and it does not need Jhoira in play for suspend to trigger and resolve normally.

If you flash in Ophidian Eye in response to removal, you do have the ability to combo off then and there. After Eye resolves, before DB does, you will receive priority and be able to activate Niv-Mizzet with DB still on the stack.

If your opponent kills Niv-Mizzet with a card draw activated ability/trigger on the stack, then, yes, the combo will be stopped unless you draw a card in response.

Those planeswalker deck-exclsive cards are going to have to be very good for these to go anywhere, I'm afraid. No one was lying in this thread when they said that these Planeswalkers are awful and I don't think that even newer players are going to be fooled by these for very long. Some new players will know that these cards feel bad. I mean, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to look at this Chandra and look at the Chandra in the actual set and spot the difference. If the rest of the deck's aren't very good as well, new players will be told by word of mouth not to buy these decks.

I don't really understand why these planeswalkers had to be this bad, honestly. They could have just been okay or somewhat decent, not... garbadge? I feel that this is going to end up working against them as the quality of the planeswalkers in these decks actually decreases some new player's excitement for planeswalker cards overall and players who may have bought one planeswalker deck the first time around, I suspect, won't be doing the same in the future unless something changes.

I think Wizards specifically tried to make precon-specific cards that have zero competitive appeal to avoid the secondary market price spikes that happened to certain commander products. You wouldn't know it from the crowd here, but new players aren't as hard to impress as you might think. If people here crinkle their noses at these cards, then Wizards has achieved one of their stated goals for this product.

My LGS has a few blue Tron players who use the Mindslaver combo, and I just know that they're going to jump on this.

Creatures die to lethal damage when state-based actions are checked, which occur whenever a player gains priority. If you use Lightning Bolt on a 2/3 Tarmogoyf without any instants in the gy, the damage will be dealt as part of the spell's resolution, before bolt is put into the gy. Goyf wouldn't die until the next time a player receives priority, so its ability will register the extra point of toughness in time for state-based actions to be checked, allowing it to survive.

slightly off subject but stores never allow store credit to be used on entries; at least i've never run into them.

    Well, mine does, at least.

@OP: My store has the opposite problem. They always wait until everyone shows up before even assembling pods, and events always start late due to that. The Conspiracy 2 drafts last Friday were scheduled to begin at 7:30pm, but didn't start until 8:00. The problem here is that the employees usually try to avoid closing up the store too long after closing, so some events risk getting cut short. Fortunately, this hasn't ruined any of my evenings yet.

to be fair, "scry" returning as the lone return mechanic in Theros might as well be "no returning mechanics."

and hybrid mana being the only one in Return to Ravnica barely counts considering OG Ravnica introduced it to the game...

Theros also had devotion (i.e. Chroma), so that could count as well.

If you want a version that ETB untapped, you could try for something in between the painland cycle and Mana Confluence/City of Brass.

    LandName
    Land (Rare)
tap symbol , Pay 1 life: Add blue mana , black mana , or red mana to your mana pool.
When LandName enters the battlefield, gain 1 life.

It accesses more colors than the painlands while losing the ability to not lose life while paying for its first activation.

No. Players and planeswalkers are two separate entities, so dealing damage to a planeswalker will no more trigger Necromaster Dragon's ability than combat damage to a creature.

One thing about monarchy that bothers me most: we had a plenty of discussion about "how cardname helps you to keep the monarchy", but who actually cares about stealing the monarchy with attack if you can just drop another of many "makes you a monarch" creatures?

Other than the bomb rares/mythics, most of the common/uncommon monarch cards range from slightly below curve to very below curve, and many of them get much worse if you already are the monarch or stop being the monarch. A check of the current "you become the monarch" cards reveals that every single one costs 4 or more mana to use. Unless you want to make your deck extremely top-heavy, you'll probably only include a handful of monarch effects, which means you'll rely on attacking most of the time. Also, there's the whole thing about painting a target on your head.
