Hi everyone, I had this wacky idea to try and include a LD package into a Jund Shell. The main goal of Jund is to gain incremental advantage by disrupting a deck's synergy. Mana denial fits extremely well into this goal. I would like to share a rough draft with all of you, I would like to make some changes already based on the previous discussions.
A lot of current lists for Jund play white for card like Ajani and Lingering Souls. I would like to hear your thoughts on if it is possible to add the Flagstones of Trokair & Boom // Bust Package to a build similar to this.
With the cards that have been spoiled from Theros, I feel the game is going to be making a shift into a more powerful lane. This will of course trickle down to other formats. Strategies like land destruction are fundamentally strong and proactive. I hope we can develop a teir 1 deck, modern is a hugely untested format.
I'd love to fit a fourth Thoughtcast, Ornithopter, and Arcbound Ravager, but I'm not sure what to pitch. I suppose Dispatch is possible, but a lot of my friends who make the core of my Modern group use things like the Titans, Knight Tribal, etc, where the exile power is really useful. Not sure if the tradeoffs are entirely worth it.
You have a great solid list in the works here. To round out you turns you want as many artifacts as you can. Your list is a little heavy on removal, like Bewble said," dispatch can end up dead." What i would do is -3 Dispatch : +1 Springleaf Drum, +1 Ornithopter, and +1 Land. All that will make your deck more explosively consistent with 8 0cc creatures. (12 0cc spells).
The Dispatches i would move to the SB withEthersworn Canonist.
When you say changes in the Etched Champion and Thoughtcast slot, are you thinking of getting rid of them? I wouldn't get rid of Etched Champion, and I would even bump him up to a 4 of. He's such a house against things like Jund and Aggro Loam.
The Champion adds resiliency to the deck. The core of the problem I face is I don't know my meta too well, other than there is a lot of Delver. The good thing about both the Overseer and the Champion is that they demand an answer. If our opponent can't answer within a turn we've won.
The theory I have behind thoughtcast is, we should be able to play anything in our hand; therefore the 2 cards we gain from the one mana spent on thoughtcast is very efficient card advantage. But there enlies the the question: Is it better to topdeck a Thoughtcast and draw 2 or topdeck a Frogmite?
Frogmite for thoughtcast I think should be a pretty easy switch. Probably would take out a shrap blast for a frog as well.
Steel Overseer is a monster...untapping with this will win you the game. Worst case for him he gets rid of removal. He also rocks with ravager and blinkmoth. Can put him in for the champions...which I think are more of SB thing. You seem to be going for the tiny robots to the face build and champion is more of a midrange-tezz affinity thing IMO. They do still work in the sideboard however.
I definatly would not play with inkmoth nexus as it just dosent do what the rest of the deck is going for. Sure cranialing/ravaging with it for 10 if you absolutly have to is a nice option but if thats your only option the deck is not playing well.
My mana base is like
4 Glimmervoid
4 Darksteel Citadel
4 Blinkmoth Nexus
3-4 City of Brass
Dispatch is great against pesky creatures but I also think this is a SB thing as the 4 main gal blasts can be used to pop stuff if you really need to.
I agree with you on the -mites for thoughtcast. And one blast can definitely shave off. I do usually find myself one artifact down when it comes time for lethal. My goal has always been a turn 3 win. Which is why mana is like it is. With the majority of artifact lands banned, we are forced to supplement. Blink & Inkmoths are artifact lands themselves. To get your count up to where you want it to be, so you are in shrap or gal-blast range; you can tap a Moth and it becomes a tapped 1/1 artifact. Which ravager can eat or plating will count. I'm not concerned about color with 12 color sources still available (mox, drum, void).
Steel Overseer is very good at what your saying......"Making my tiny robot army nastier". And he costs one less which is nice. I'm a fan of a mana curve under 3. :). i just wish Baleful Strix was legal in modern.
I'm thinking of a SB something like:
I have been an Affinity pilot since Mirrodin block. At it's core this deck is a comb deck. The goal being, getting to that magic number of artifacts where you can bring your opponent into range for burn spell X with Ravager or Plating. I've bore witness to this deck dealing 13+ damage in a turn. My have a modern build currently constructed and its very fast and consistent.
The core of this deck is where it needs to be. There are 28 cards that cost 0 (16 land+ 12: 0 cmc). 80% of the time T1 is 3-4 cards played. I have no sideboard complete, I am always open to input. I win on a consistent turn 3 but i feel the deck could be more resilient. The places where I can see change occurring are in the Etched Champion slot and the Thoughtcast slot. My options include: Steel Overseer- Helps the artifact army, sorta slow. Haste to be found here. Disciple of the Vault: Make the Ravager win route go twice as fast. Big + but is a horrible topdeck and not ravger food himself. Dispatch- For all that petty stuff- shut off martyr proc and ExarchKikiTwin.
I have also toyed around with the idea of Tempered Steel. They all have their own pluses and minuses, I am seeking some opinion from all of you on experiences with these cards in other metas. Thank you in advance all thoughts are appreciated.
I share a similar mindset as meyou. If a person is in a multiplayer match their deck should be constructed in a way that there is a viable win-con but you also have the goal to affect as much of the game as possible. Cards like Copperhoof Vorrac mean much more in a 6 person match.I cannot say how many times that casting Thieves' Auction has won games.
At heart I am a casual player with a love for all cards and the game as a whole. Winning is hardwired into our brains as the final desirable goal but anyone can overcome that mindset and just have fun playing the game. Thanks for the great article.
I have been on hiatus from Magic for a couple years now and am making a return to competitive play with the release of the new set. This is the list I have been putting together for post NPH. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts.
Against BDW-its a toss up match, and early Restraint can win it. Flow is a tough match.....the deck only runs a couple basics. Affinity isnt too bad if you can find a wish fast enough for Kataki, also Collective Restraint holds it back. Chase rare is a tough match as well as UW tron....Damn counterspells Goblins can also be a problem too, the large amount of burn is what kills this deck.
Ive found that the walls help to power out a turn 3 restraint and also give me a better aggro matchup. Any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated.
4 Tarmogoyf
4 Deathrite Shaman
3 Huntmaster of the Fells or Fulminator Mage
3 Thoughtseize
3 Inquisition of Kozilek
3 Stone Rain
3 Molten Rain
3 Lightning Bolt
2 Maelstrom Pulse
2 Abrupt Decay
2 Smallpox
1 Misty Rainforest
3 Marsh Flats
3 Blackcleave Cliffs
2 Blood Crypt
1 Stomping Ground
2 Overgrown Tomb
1 Temple of Abandon
1 Graven Cairns
2 Raging Ravine
2 Swamp
1 Forest
1 Mountain

A one of Figure of Destiny is a great beater early and late game. Your able to cut one Sculler and still have 10 removal spells
