If I ever get the money I'll just get a BIN on ebay for 200$... I'm not paying more than 200 for a box and I even TOLD the LGS that... seems like they don't want my business anymore... One store isn't even DOING preorders, he's holding his ENTIRE allocation for draft, at $30 each... Why can't SOMEONE do the honorable thing and do drafts AT MSRP?

Drafts at $30 are basically MSRP if there are prizes involved (something like a 4/3/1/1 payout is more or less $30 each).

There's no guaranteed distribution in boosters.

That said, buy many boxes and you'll notice there is a consistent trend - my Dragion's Maze case averaged 2 foil rares/mythics per box.

(It's been pretty consistent since 10th edition.)

Sorry, but I opened multiple cases of every set (owning a store and all) and it most certainly does not average 2 foil rares/mythics per box. I'm not saying you're lying, just that you've gotten very, very lucky.

I just called the giantest store in my state and they said they don't expect to get any, and if they do it might be a tourney prize Frown

I would translate this as 'they don't expect to get any that their hard-working employees don't want'. Let's be honest, part of the advantage of being a game store employee is the 'Right of first Refusal' on stuff like this..

I saw the results of your discussion but I remain optimistic that the elements revealed only represent a partial truth. It is near unfathomable that there 5 times less of this product coming out (maybe not all at once) compared to FtV:R.

It would be cool if WotC were to use some more of these are prizes for a nation-wide 'Day of Commander' or something. I would be very happy if some amount more of them were released...somehow.

But it is 4 individual units. Tops. Per store. I have talked to more people than Dr Jeebus has at WotC (most likely, and in more than one branch of the company) and the answer remains the same. 2/4 individual units depending on WPN status. Unless someone at WotC has decided to completely Punk their entire company (which would be funny, but stupid at the same time)...

This is nowhere near the most limited print run they have ever produced, even in recent history...

    Let's put this in perspective:
There will be at least 12-24 times as many commander's arsenal sets as there are of each alpha rare, making each card more common than an alpha common. Which means there will be at least 4-8 times as many commander's arsenal sets as there are of each beta rare, making each card more common than a beta uncommon.

Helvaults don't count, because they weren't for sale. Heck, lots of individual cards are rarer (Splendid Genesis, Irefusetolookupthename Dragon, etc), but none of those were for sale.

And you don't count Alpha RARES, you could the Alpha print-run, which is way, way bigger than this (2.6ish million). Alpha is an item, just like this set is.

And, for the record, I strongly doubt there will be 13,200-26,400 of these sets out there (which would be 12-24 times each alpha rare, putting alpha rares at 1,100). But I figure we don't know for sure how many will be out there because we don't know exactly how many Core/Advanced stores there are. But that number we might never know...

I pre-ordered from them as well, and have had a lengthy discussion with them about the distribution limits. They acknowledged that the distribution would be low, similar to FTV, but also said that because they acquire product from a number of distributors that filling their pre-orders (not sure how many they took, but I thought around 12-16 at most) would not be an issue.

    They are wrong.

It doesn't matter if they deal with every available US distributor for the product, or indeed every one on the planet. We request the product from WotC through the WER sanctioning system. We tell WotC which distributor (or direct) we want to get the product from. THAT ONE distributor sells us the product when it arrives, exactly like it were a pre-release. They get exactly as much product as stores registered for. This is the same way that FTVs work also. And, of course, we only get to request the items once (it removes itself from the WER once we've done it).

They will get 4. They oversold (because, seriously, who expected it to be 4?). They should own up to it now and do refunds because that's the right thing to do and the excuse 'we didn't know it was only going to be 4' is perfectly legitimate now, but in three months will look sketchy...

It isn't cases. It's single units. Yes, that means 2/4 ACTUAL ITEMS. This is not only in the document in question, but actually double-checked from my WotC rep. Heck I even said 'you mean really only 4 items' and the answer was yes.

    Crazy, but yes.

I would assume that, since you're supposed to open up the Helvault as the event goes on, that store to store hopping won't do you any good, unless you define hopping as 'sitting in a store for 3 hours playing'...

PAP. That's a Personal Articles Policy. That's how you insure something like this. A normal homeowners policy has specific limitations as to value and type of items that are covered by it. One purchases a PAP to cover those 'other things'. There are, of course, other limitations to it that probably vary by company, like it being stolen out of your car instead of your house.

Sorry for the loss, the event ITSELF seemed to be going smoothly on the massive theft front. It seems like that Pacman alter is one of the best ways to be on the lookout for someone trying to dump this.

Actually, There were prerelease cards before Lightning Dragon; it was simply the first foil card.
Tempest had Dirtcowl Wurm, Stronghold had Revenant, not sure what Exodus had.

    Monstrous Hound was for Exodus.

Yes, it was bad business ethics to a certain degree. WotC was obviously trying to dump the WWK boxes at a good price, knowing that the demand would drop drastically, thereby decreasing the price a retailer could get for it (and how much the retailer would have paid for the box). If WotC sold the boxes for less than previously, anticipating a drop in demand because of the coming ban, then it is not bad ethics at all.

Regardless of what people say here about "I would be more than happy to buy a box for the sake of other formats", they would most likely not do so for the pre-ban prices.

To answer the question below, WotC charges the same price for everything, period. They don't 'dump the boxes at a good price' they sell them for the same price they always have. And if they had called me and said 'hey, we have 100 boxes (ok, it was more, but not THAT much more), do you want them for normal price?' I would have said 'yes please, send me every one you have!'. In fact, I'd say that right now...'hey every store out there, if you're unhappy with the Worldwake that WotC sold you at our normal discount, I'll buy them for $5 MORE than the WotC price and add $5 more for shipping'.

Somehow I don't see any of them taking me up on that offer. Will a Worldwake box probably sell for less for a bit? Sure. Will it rebound? Undoubtedly...

Ya know, I almost forgot to order my box of WWK today, I called my rep back to actually order the box, realizing I would have to pay extra shipping just to get the box sent (was too late to add it to the other order) and was HAPPY to do that, because I want the box so bad...

Just for the record, he said sales tax, which the IRS cares not one whit about... That would be a state/county/local item. Now as to logic or correct interpretation of the local tax dork, who knows?

So am I getting this right? Instead of going to a website and putting in your code and address, you write down the code and go to a store to get your card?

Yah, that's how it has worked for all the previous DotP sets too.

We had the cards arrive a week or so ago and are just waiting for people to come in with their paper..;-)
