I remember seeing Griselbrand lists on here all the way back when he was released.
It basically worked like a mono-black storm deck with a ton of rituals. Once you hit 8 mana and resolved him, you essentially won off of all of the fast mana you inevitably end up drawing and then cards like Tendrils of Agony and Yawgmoth's Will help finish it up.
The benefits to this guy require far more input as you need fodder in addition to getting to 8 quickly. You can tutor for crazy stuff but your opponents will have extra time to deal with it as you have more of a mana constraint than with Griselbrand.
In the context of the 99, when it comes to cloning, stealing, or reanimating creatures, there was almost never a time where Griselbrand wouldn't be the correct target for any of these effects. A draw 7 for 7 life that you can easily get back simply by attacking someone? Also if you're really far behind it is quite the nice stabilizer and equalizer. I remember only playing one game with Grisel in the 99 and everyone collectively agreed that this card was stupid beyond belief.
Again, this new guy is a solid choice, but not every deck can abuse him if they decide to grab a copy.

kharniverous posted a message on [Primer] MonoU Tron - "The well-oiled machine"i must refrain from my week long silence... Sundering titan is pretty LEGIT. Not sure if you have ever cast it against 90% of the decks in modern. Perfect little tribute by the way bro! And I like to think sundering titan is pretty good v burn. Check that comment. Sundering titan is GOOD v burn. I leave in titan, wurmcoil, 1 slaver, 1 platinum v burn usually.. I am pretty bad at this game so I could see this being wrong. Of course I also bring in squelch if we have it in our 75 on the play v burn. Spreading seas on the play is pretty good v the nation of burnination.Posted in: Control
I'll reiterate. Sundering Titan is awesome in this deck. And when he's not you simply board him out. The concept is simple and flawless. Not having titan in your maindeck is just too radical and I will strongly advise against it -

kharniverous posted a message on [Primer] MonoU Tron - "The well-oiled machine"My strategy against Rg tron is 3 surgical extractions 4 maps 4 remands 4 condescends and tectonic edge . Plan is to stop their turn 3 or 4 threat and edge tron and remove it. Spreading seas and squelch aren't bad eitherPosted in: Control -

kharniverous posted a message on [Primer] MonoU Tron - "The well-oiled machine"For the record there was a debate on surgical extraction months ago. Everyone told me "that card does nothing". "Surgical extraction is a bad magic card"... articles have been written about how extraction does literally nothing. Hmmmmm... Interesting how everyone changes their tune when you realize specific roles of magic cards. EXACT same with squelch. They've been in my lists and on my radar for years boys. And relic is fine depending on your 75. Tormods is the beez kneez if you can afford a terrible tolaria west in your 75. And if you run terriblia west we want engineered explosives. And if we run those choices, we better run 2-3 trinket mages so in theory you are running and or boarding 4 of each these cards.Posted in: Control
If you really want to beat dredge just put 4 leyline of the void in your board and run 1x urborg somewhere. Don't be afraid of dredge as it is not a real deck in modern. Merely takes advantage of lack of any mass or recursive graveyard h8. U tron has the ability to adjust to almost any metagame. -

kharniverous posted a message on [Primer] MonoU Tron - "The well-oiled machine"lol der_feind. I look like such a master... I played that 2nd game as if he removed both mindslavers with his surgical because thats the kind of guy i am.. He questioned a line 2 turns prior to realize what our plan was all along. Mad respect to GerryT and I didn't even realize it was him.Posted in: Control -

Khespar posted a message on [Primer] MonoU Tron - "The well-oiled machine"Solemn Simulacrum is solid value ONLY FOR YOU. If TKS didnt let the opponent draw a card, Id rate it almost as good as the Sad bot.. But it still gives the opponent a card.Posted in: Control
Path reads:
W
Exile target creature, give its controller a land, draw a card.
Path doesnt need to be more effective against us, its already an annoying card.
We are NOT EldraziTron. We are NOT RG Tron. We have ARTIFACT SYNERGIES, not silly Eldrazi ones. Yes, eldrazi are potent. Yes, the new 3cmc pull from the blind eternities is cool. Do we have the land support to pump out TKS turn 2? No. Do we have the sideboard flexibility to effectively remove 3 slots for mainboard versatility? Not really. We need to tune ourselves to our meta, which sometimes may involve some eldrazi.. If you wish to operate sub-optimally, and potentially hold yourself back.
Im just saying "The well-oiled machine" operates with some intrinsic synergies; We operate like the blue mages we are, with artifacts. Thats the most efficient way to play the deck. -

artfranc007 posted a message on [Primer] MonoU Tron - "The well-oiled machine"so im picking up this deck as an alternate to my lantern control deck. i haven't bought the cards yet but i have been practicing on cockatrice and honing a shocktroopa list i picked to my liking. so far i have had a ton of success, it could be beginner's luck but i have been slaving, sundering, coiling, and platinum...ing all day long today. here is my listPosted in: Control
quick insight into some of my card choices. dropped 2 snaps for an extra solemn and spell burst. the lonely robot usually puts u up 2 cards. he loves to block and attack. i can understand why some might choose thought-knot seer, but i feel that solemn is more consistent and i love how it ramps into wurmcoil. also i cut fabricate in favor of a second treasure mage. i think it is strictly a better card, for the obvious reason that it is a creature as well. since i don't have a way to tutor for o-stone i added a second. went to a 2-2 split of repeal and cyclonic rift. i like rift in alot of matchups (many are not creature based).
onto the sideboard. in resp to the discussion over steel wall v. spellskite i have to say that skite is the better card. it is our best answer to infect and burn, it protects our win cons from jund and it does so much more. a second coil in the board for creature strategies. landing a coil can be an auto-win. dredge is hot right now so i have 3 relic of progenitus. i feel like it is adequate enough for most gyard strategies, so i cut surgical extraction. 2 spell pierce for added counters. 2 ratchet bombs for mid-range strategies and annoying planeswalkers. could be an answer for bmoon, but i haven't found that card to be a problem. lastly 4 dismember for infect affinity. i was playing spatial contortion, but i feel like this card is applicable in more match ups and i would rather not run both since they are a little redundant.
overall i would say that out of all the decks that i have tried as an alternative to my lantern control deck (lantern will always be my goto) i have been happiest with this one. i tried infect, almost all death and taxes variants, and ur thopters. this one felt the most resilient which is something i appreciate. i'm going to start buying the cards slowly so eventually i will be able to post tourney results. feels very satisfying to win with huge effects, i'm so used to winning with trinkets lol. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

it hits relic of progenitus, chromatic star. chromatic sphere. ancient stirrings. natures claim. and expedition maps. you can literally 1 for 20 them.
And if you play spreading seas you can keep them off tron and draw a card.
Squelch is great vs o-stone, karn, expedition map, chromatic star, chromatic sphere and relic of progenitus.
You can also counter every threat in deck except emrakul, and ulamog is really the only terrifying card apart from karn.
if you run jesters cap in sideboard then use it to hit there three ulamogs, and then recurr it to hit karns or ugins then wurmcoils. and they have a hard time winning against us. it is literally a really good matchup for us.
Although i will admit they sometime's just get nut draws and win.
But seriously dont doubt the deck man we have a really strong matchup against them.
I have a friend who loves tron and plays R/G tron and U/W tron and i stomp both decks. his u/w list only runs 4 counterspells and we have a great matchup against R/G.
the other day we played 14 games and i won 12 of them.

Things like this:
Reasons I have not ran Thought-knot Seer.
1. It doesn't say Solemn Simulacrum.
2. It doesn't find me a basic, and lacks the blocking abilities of solemn simulacrum. Solemn essentially sacrifices himself to block 99% of the time.. So the free draw for us is better than your opponent drawing a card.
3. I'm not going to look at TKS as a "win condition". Nor do I ever want my opponent to draw a card when they destroy it.
4. The "look at opponents hand and take a card" and 4/4 body isn't what this deck needs. this would be Resources, chump blocks to prolong the game, and draw cards. TKS doesn't make us an aggressive deck.
5. Essentially he is 4/4 painless thoughtseize that can come down t3 with tron or in most the lists i've seen which baffles my mind is turn 4.
If you are trying to use TKS as a tempo card please for love of basic fundamentals and philosophies run talismans in your list.
6. Solemn simulacrum is AWESOME t3 with tron because you are ramping into a U.. having 7UU or 9U up t4 opens up the world, and having a free blocker that you draws you card is very threatening in itself. Or you can visit rampville, play solemn t3 off a talisman and have 6 mana up for that wurmcoil engine for thrist / counter.. whatever options up from having a guaranteed blue or in most cases multiple Blue.
7. TKS does not pitch to Thirst for knowledge.
This is what im talking about when troopa talks about what cards he uses. this is a direct quote of his from the forum.
