Ha. Good point... wasn't thinking. Will stick with Bojuka Bog for now and see how I get on Smile

Anyone who is playing the Bant humans list, can you post your sideboard please?

I seem to struggle against a lot of removal. Is heroic intervention worth consideration? I also haven't played Dredge yet, but wondering whether Grafdigger's cage is a better call than bojuka bog?

    Mine is as follows:
    2 auriok champion
    1 dusk/dawn
    3 unified will
    2 blessed alliance
    1 qasali preidemage
    1 bojuka bog
    2 stony silence
    2 meddling Mage
    1 ehtersworn canonist

    Welcome everyone's feedback Smile

With kitesail freebooter can we get some interesting interactions with CoCo and fiend hunter? (mMay have got this wrong, but pretty sure the below was possible with Hunter and tidehollow sculler)

Hit both creatures off CoCo, chose an opponents card with Freebooter, choose Freebooter with Hunters ability, decide how to stack the triggers so that you permanently exile something from the opponents hand.... If the opponent gets rid of fiend hunter then they will lose another card out of their hand (albeit temporarily). Or, you attack/chump block with Hunter to get Freebooter back.

Might not be enough to work a deck up for it, but an interesting interaction Smile

Interesting list. You got any more results with it?

This might sound a stupid question, but with Bob have you changed your gameplan? Instead of trying to combo on turn 2 do you play Bob and hope he either eats removal or gives you card advantage.... Or, do you still go with Paladin/SRAM regardless and Bob is a good back up?

Went 2-2 at FNM last night with the following list:

    Round 1 vs Ponza 1-2
First game I managed to IoK his blood moon turn 1, after some back and forth I stuck two KotR after he had destroyed the majority of my land, which won me the game. Second game I didn't draw enough dorks and eventually lost to a monstrous storm breath dragon. Game 3 he played a blood moon turn 2 and there was not much I could do.

    Round 2 vs Burn 0-2
Think both games were over in 10 minutes. Game 1 he left my Bob alive, which three turns of CoCo off the top, did all the hard work for him while he pinged my mana dorks! Game two he just bolted anything on the board and eventually beat me with a topdecked boros charm

    Round 3 vs 8 Rack 2-0
Managed to get enough creatures out to keep presenting a threat. Bob meant that I didn't take too much damage from Rack or shrieking affliction.

    Round 4 vs ETron 2-1
Game 1 was a race, which I lost when he played Emrakul. Game 2 he mulled to 5 and must've kept a sketchy hand so I managed to keep swinging through with pumped weenies. Game 3 was exceptionally close and it was Thalia who saved the day when he tried to hard cast an Ugin.

    Thoughts
    - Need more lifegain main deck. +2 auriok champion -2 Mayor
    - Felt I needed more interaction/utility pieces.... maybe Fiend hunter? Any other suggestions?
    - Manabase is very greedy (especially with Bob)... Any suggestions?
    - Anyone got any thoughts on how to slow down the big mana decks? More Thalia's and ghost quarters?
    - CoCo is a great card, but would aether vial be better?

I know not many on the thread are going down the Abzan route, but I feel the deck has potential.... just needs a fair bit of tweaking!

Although not Knightfall, I experimented with a Devoted Vizier Human (Naya) build a few months back (if you were interested, scroll back a few pages in this thread) I had mixed success, but being able to constantly threaten a infinite mana combo was pretty good. It also meant that my Champions didn't see as much spot removal because this was reserved for devoted druid. This also applied to knight of the reliquary which gave me a really good beater.

The list that I was developing definitely needed some work (I.e. Dropping lightning mauler etc) but I liked the overall concept.

Would be interested to hear how you get on with the Human Knightfall list. I'm working on an Abzan Human list so will feedback results when I get to test it Wink

That looks like a Bant Vizier Knightfall list.... I think there is a dedicated thread to that deck build somewhere on this website. I appreciate it is called 'Counters Company' and there is some cross over with this deck.

Had an absolute shocker at the Birmingham GP yesterday. Went 1-4! My worst results ever with this deck.

Round 1 vs Naya Burn 0-2
Had to mull to 5 because I had no land. Kept a hand with one forest and two dorks, but didn't draw anything useful so the match was over very quickly.

Game 2 had a starting hand of 7 land and next hand of 6 consisted of 4 land and 2 Chord. Again down to 5 and a similar story to the first game. Think we were finished in 11 minutes. I know getting screwed with mana is a thing, but this felt pretty unbelievable....

(As a side note, we played two casual games as we had so much time left and I won both games on turn 3!!!!)

    Round 2 vs E-Tron 2-1
Game 1 went pretty well and combo with mirror entity turn 3.

Game 2 he played a Grafdigger's, Ratchet Bomb and Relic in first two turns! Despite my best efforts I couldn't find a way to get round it all and lost to two thought Knots.

Game 3 went to time and I eventually won on turn 5 after time. Didn't manage to stick any combo pieces and my opponent had all 12 lands out and was topdecking. I CoCo at the end his turn 4 and find two knight of the reliquary (both 8/8) with him on an empty hand, 8 life and one blocker.

Round 3 vs GW Hatebears 0-2
What an awful match up this was.

Game 1 he stuck two arbiters early and then CoCo to find two Loxodon Smiters and there was nothing I could do.

Game 2 was a similar story and I can't really remember how the match panned out.

Round 4 vs Bant Human Company 0-2
Game 1 was very very close although he topdecked a Thalia's Lieutenant with a full board of weenies.

Game 2 was similarly close, but after he had pathed 3 KotR he then played a reflector Mage targeting mirror entity which meant that my guys couldn't trade with all of his creatures, he won the following turn.

Round 5 vs Naya Burn 1-2
Game 1 I think my opponent had the perfect hand and drew perfect cards. Goblin guide, followed by goblin guide, followed by swiftspear followed by 3 burn spells and that was that.

Game 2 I was always in the driving seat and despite losing combo pieces twice two KotR got me to the finish line.

Game 3 was exceptionally close with both of us being on 3 life. However, against burn I always felt that this was going to be in his favour. I had the infinite mana combo for two turns prior to this but no outlet, he topdecked a skull crack to win. My next card was a Chord, after topdecking 2 lands prior. You should never look!

Had great fun but disappointed that this was the worst the deck has been. On a positive note I didn't feel I lost my games to misplays (which is often the case for me), but rather the deck just didn't work and reminded me how vulnerable it is to excessive interaction.... Especially against Hatebears I always felt I was on the back foot, anyone got any suggestions/recommendations?

Anyway, going to have a break from this build and see if I can build an Abzan Human list Smile

Went 3-0 at a casual meet up last night (just to reiterate, I am running GBW splashing red for Kessig and don't run Finks combo).

    Results:
    Vs Affinity 2-1
    Vs Dredge 2-0
    Vs Affinity 2-0

I know I've said it before but having 1-2 KotR out early means the beat down plan is definitely viable. She overperformed in every match up. Especially tutoring for Kessig and Ghost Quarter.

Favourite play of the night - vs Affinity, after sideboarding, stuck a Kataki out on Turn 2. Played a ghost quarter turn 3, destroyed inkmoth nexus, returned it to my hand with Witness and repeated the following turn. Great way to clear the board of etched champions and all their other cheap stuff.

Went 3-1 with the Devoted/Knight build last night.

    Vs Merfolk 0-2
I felt I was in a fairly strong position although didn't have acces to the combo. Unfortunately surcombed to a spreading seas followed by two Merfolk lords.

Second round I had a great hand with nearly all the pieces I needed. But wasn't prepared for my opponent to topdeck x3 tidebender Mage in a row. This resulted in a birds, hierarch and Druid being tapped down. Followed again by a spreading seas... game over.

    Vs 8 Rack 2-0
Despite nearly everything getting discarded or removed I pulled a CoCo and jammed 2 KotR which won me the game.

Round 2, I lost a lot of life and cards very quickly through discard and rack and affliction out. Jammed the mana combo and the following turn (no cards in hand, 2 life) topdecked duskwatch recruiter so won with walking ballista.

    Vs RG Aggro 2-0
Had the perfect hand and won turn 3 with the combo.

Round 2, my opponent didn't learn their lesson and let a Druid live so again won on turn 3.

    Vs Mono red goblins 2-0
Lost an awful lot of life very very quickly. Managed to find the combo turn 4 and won with walking ballista.

Second round started very similar to the first, opponent left a Vizier alive and I played a CoCo at the end of my opponents turn found Druid and recruiter. Won with 3 life remaining.

Really felt like I needed more answers vs Merfolk. But apart from path and abrupt decay I'm struggling to think what else I would swap out of my sideboard.... otherwise had a great evening. Unlike @Pokken I still really like KotR, but I haven't tested rallier. Playing against friends casually I love having 2 ghost quarters vs Tron and KotR. This has won me several games which I am positive I would've lost without these cards in the deck - plus they are in the main.

Haven't managed to test the deck yet, hence no sideboard, but this is what I will probably try and test soon:

    Other possible considerations:
knight of reliquary - really wanted to find a slot in the deck for this, but running grim flayer means I need to run graveyard recursion like renegade rallier.
mirran crusader - having had success with this card in Naya Devoted Company I wanted to include it. But without the option of giving trample it doesn't have the same appeal or benefits as anafenza, the foremost. Probably a sideboard card for DS Jund.
Thalia, guardian of thraben - the inclusion of collected company makes me loathe to include this card, even if it will help with some match ups. If I was playing aether vial then I would be more likely to include it. Again, maybe a sideboard option.
Abzan falconer - this is such a situational card, but could close out games pretty rapidly. Anyone tested this card?

    Anyone got some initial thoughts?

Glad to hear your list is working well. How'd you get on at the PPTQ?

Looking at your list I have a few questions - mainly because I'm developing a list which is quite similar but mine is Abzan (dark confidant, grim flayer etc).

    1) how are you getting on with Thalia, guardian of thraben in the board? Particularly with CoCo and path?
    2) Without horizon canopy, dark confidant or duskwatch recruiter do you find you end up in top deck mode quite a bit?
    3) have you found not having any board wipe protection an issue? Or, considered return to the ranks?
    4) your sideboard runs a high number of non-creatures. Assuming you don't board out CoCos you had many 'whiffs'?
    5) I see from your report that you've beaten Tron. How do you normally get on versus the big mana decks?
    6) would you make any maindeck changes?

Look forward to your response Smile

Had a great day of magic and went 3-3 with the list I posted earlier on this page, with the following minor changes to the sideboard:
    +2 abrupt decay
    +1 slaughter games
    -1 qasali pridemage
    -1 burrenton forge-tender
    -1 fiery justice

    Round 1 1-2 vs UR Aggro/Delver(?)
Game 1 - Managed to jam enough creatures and won with beatdown through knight of the reliquary.
Game 2 - Didn't keep a very good hand and really regretted it. Got annihilated by stormchaser mage and mantis rider.
Game 3 - Every single creature I played got blitzed or returned to my hand. And mantis rider finished me off for the second time.

Round 2 2-1 vs Grixis Delver (knew what was coming with this deck because it was a friend)
Game 1 - Played enough value with my combo pieces receiving most of the spot removal. Jammed 3 knight of the reliquary late in the game and he had no way of dealing with 3 7/7s.
Game 2 - This game was awful for me. Opponent drew some amazing cards and I was on the receiving end of tasigur, angler and then K.command twice of snap caster.
Game 3 - Despite getting my board wiped twice I stuck a scavenging ooze and a KotR. Exiling both of our graveyards of creatures gained me lots of life and then I proceeded to win with two beaters.

Round 3 1-2 vs Naya Burn (again was a friend so was dreading this match up)
Game 1 - As expected I had a hard time dealing with all the aggro creatures and spells. Finally thought I was in a good position when attacking with a KotR to be faced with a deflecting palm...
Game 2 - Getting down to 5 health I finally got the infinite mana combo and won with walking ballista.
Game 3 - This was by far our closest and most intense game. I was in an excellent board state and had the infinite mana combo, but was on 8 life with my opponent on 14. I didn't have a way to find ballista, but I misplayed with KotR and should have found kessig wolf run, but instead dealt 12 damage for my opponent to top deck a boros charm (with 1 in hand)... very annoyed with myself.

Round 4 2-0 vs Abzan Counter Company
Game 1 - Opponent stuck a vizier of remedies on turn 2 so knew what was coming. He hit a kitchen finks and viscera seer off CoCo and got infinite life. Next turn I hit the combo and found Ballista for infinite damage.
Game 2 - Managed to disrupt opponents combo and stick my own. However, rather than concede he made me play it out so I was starting to panic he had a way of dealing with it. Thankfully he didn't and was just messing with me!

Round 5 2-1 vs Grixis death shadow
Game 1 - Not entirely sure how this game went but I remember having 3 9/9 KotRs when the game finished.
Game 2 - got a bit to cocky with my attacks and paid the price when my opponent was on 4 life and stuck 2 death's shadow and I had no blocks.
Game 3 - Similar to the first game, my opponent was focused on removing the combo that I stuck some KotRs and a mirran crusader and finished with a Ballista pinging them for 1 damage.

Round 6 0-2 vs Abzan Counters Company
Game 1 - mulled to a sketchy 5. Opponent played devoted druid turn 2 and knew that I was screwed.
Game 2 - We each took turns disrupting each other's combo, with me eventually getting my maths wrong and not playing a creature to block. No excuses - just terrible play.

    Thoughts:
    • I didn't have a use for flickerwisp once when it was in my hand and when I did need it I often couldn't chord for it
    • Scooze in the main was very useful at just keeping me alive.
    • Really, really liked having knight of the reliquary in the deck. Often found it once my opponents had disrupted the combo by removing either Vizier or Druid.
    • Found a single Maelstrom pulse in the main very useful for dealing with major threats.
    • Not sure if Naya is worth it. Considering going GW but think it may limit sideboard options.
    • Orzhov Pontiff was very underwhelming without sac outlet (as @spankz has pointed out).
    • Dpnt think I should've run 2 abrupt decay and 2 path to exile in side. Maybe swap one set of these for voice of resurgence?
    • Felt I needed more creatures that can deal with opponents creatures in sideboard. If I continue to play Naya, grim lavamancer (although this may end up counteracting KotR)

When I find my notes I will update my sideboard decisions.

MVP = knight of the reliquary

I agree regarding the flex spots. I've opted for flickerwisp so that I can at least have some interaction with my opponent. I've not been a big fan of fiend hunter in testing, but do like big game hunter - however the BB costs makes it hard to justify if I'm splashing red.... I had considered courser of kruphix so that I don't cripple myself with KotR and Canopies, but feel that it doesn't help me enough to run it main.

I honestly think playing black for; maelstrom pulse, orzhov pontiff, pharika and slaughter games (new addition to sideboard) is more than worth it. These cards are better options than a lot of GW/Naya sideboard cards and should help some of the tricky matchups. If I was to add blue then I would definitely use either/both reflector mage/spell queller.... but; 1) I don't own these cards. 2) don't know what I would drop to splash blue 3) would probably swap deck style to Bant and make it Vizier Knightfall (so that I could play a playset of each).

Have you tested blue/Bant? You happy with Naya?

So, after much thought I think I might run the following list:

I'm not totally convinced with flickerwisp as a silver bullet and wondering if there are better options... thoughts?

Also, with running KotR should I run a single ghost quarter to help with the Tron match ups?

If anyone has any suggestions let me know.
