UBRG, splashing white. Ramp into big X cast spells, use Diabolic Revelation to dig up an Mystic Retrieval/Runic Repetition loop. Rakdos's Return/Devil's Play kill.

Considering more Diabolic Revelations, maybe a Witchbane Orb, possibly changing up the removal, swapping out some Mizzium Mortars or something. I still have a lot of testing to do, particularly against zombies... Interested in more ideas for the deck while I playtest it.

Doesn't work. Maybe "whenever a creature you control attacks and isn't blocked, you may return Fang of Numai from your graveyard to your hand"?

I know Ninjutsu doesn't technically work outside of your hand, but I figure there'd be an elegant way around it someone would find, somewhat like what you said.

I was also thinking an argument could be made for the templating saying "play for its ninjutsu cost" not technically being ninjutsu, simply using said cost of mana + bouncing unblocked attacker from ninjutsu to play the ninja from the grave (Basically the point of his game text would be to ignore the from hand part of ninjutsu). Still awkward, but I like the idea of a Ninja popping out of hiding when you thought he was dead.

Ninjutsu: (mana cost appropriate for size)
You may play Fang of Numai for its Ninjutsu cost from your graveyard.

Without pics that card isn't idle fact; it's cold, hard speculation.

And we have a forum for that.

Hey. This isn't the fact mill.

Yes. God forbid we should have an actual rumor on the RUMOR MILL for once.

That part is obvious, but why the reference to Glimmervoid?

Cloudpost is in the clouds, flavor-wise. It has nothing to do with clouds, mechanically.

  • posted a message on Help me ID a promo Forest.
I have a white bordered forest (non-foil) with an "M" expansion symbol drawn by Tony Roberts. I can find a black bordered version, same art, online which says the black bordered one is a 1996 arena promo, which matches the date on their scan. My white bordered one says 1993-1998 for a date.

I've done a few internet searches but haven't been able to find a white bordered version mentioned anywhere. I'd assume from the later date on the card that it is a reissue of the older version, I'd also assume through arena, but I'd like to know for sure.

Black bordered one seems to sell for a buck online. This rarer or more common? I'd expect a lower value being white-bordered but you never can tell for sure, particularly because I can find multiple references to the black one, but none to the white. I think it came out of a collection I picked up off someone, but I'm not sure. No other random promos either, just this lone forest.

  • posted a message on Beckett has solid hints towards Koth's text.
I stock magazines and saw a Scars of Mirrodin interview on the cover of Beckett's new issue of their MTG magazine. I skimmed the interview inside and noticed a question regarding Koth.

The interviewee (Turian, If I remember correctly) said 2 things about Koth. One is that he's from a tribe of Vulshoks specialized in blunt weaponry. This isn't much of a hint, but the other thing he said I think is a pretty clear sign of the design of Koth's abilities.

See, Koth is a geomancer. In particular, it mentions that Koth makes special use particularly of the metallic properties of Mirrodin's terrain. Its pretty clear, in my opinion, that Koth will have at least 1 positive land-based ability, which makes a LOT of sense following Zendikar, for some nice cross-block synergy.

You don't just decide some new character is a geomancer unless you intend to make use of that fact.

Couldn't they give the card sunburst, just not as a keyword, by typing the reminder text out as game text? That way it works as throwback to sunburst and 5th dawn, without adding another keyword.

I'm pretty sure thats been done before with a different keyword, but I can't think of an example.

Well, they didn't make it colorless, because we can see it on the intro pack and it's a blue card. Wink Hard to tell if it's a blue artifact or non-artifact though.

Right. The difference is that Mirrodin creatures have basically superficial metal -- their hair is metal, or they've got metal plates on their skin or something. If you Shatter them, all that happens is that they go bald or their skin plates come off or something.

Esperites actually take functional, vital parts of their body and replace them with etherium. If you Shatter those, they aren't left with a full, functional body and they die.

I think that the Mirrodin side so far seems to very "traditional" -- they want there to be a very clear continuity between Mirrodin block and this one, to show us that it's the same place. So I don't think Mirrodin creatures will be colored artifacts in this block. But Phyrexians, who actually integrate metal into their bodies and believe in a union of flesh and metal, I could easily see getting some. And there could easily be a few others if (as it kind of appears now) there are a few Esper creatures who've shown up as well.

I really don't think there will be actual Phyrexians in the block. (At least in the sense of the cyborg/zombie ones we are familiar with.) I get the distinct impression from the Infect keyword, twiter, some art, and the Mirrodin ads, that the "Phyrexians" in this block are regular creatures taken over by phyrexian oil.

    Quote from Bass
So, in MaRo's tweetapalooza, he points out that there's a hint to be had from looking up what the word "Infect" means (from wiki: "An infection is the detrimental colonization of a host organism by a foreign species. In an infection, the infecting organism seeks to utilize the host's resources to multiply, usually at the expense of the host.")

So maybe the "New Phyrexia" faction is natural Mirrodin lifeforms infected by Phyrexian Oil.

    Like a zombie apocalypse.

Phyrexian oil infected organism spread the corruption to other pure organisms. Those uninfected are trying to blockade the infected areas of Mirrodin.

The big issue with a split set, as everyone sees it, is the rares. Well, what if the 2 sets shared the same rares. Just change the commons/uncommons for the 2 set variations so that it has a huge effect on limited and no effect on the secondary market for rares.

    Problem solved?

Or, say, make it so half the commons and uncommons have watermarks for phyrexia or mirrodin. Buying a Mirrodin Pure pack results in regular commons/uncommons and a rare, but some Mirrodin Pure watermarked commons/uncommons.

This way all the common limited staples would be available in all packs without having to make a phyrexian version and a mirrodin version. The 2 sets would have the same generic burn common, same generic rampant growth common, but various specific watermarked commons and uncommons that are mechanically and flavorfully aligned to a faction.

I think that could work pretty well, and wouldn't be to difficult to print up.

I wouldn't care about this, except for the code word "jurassic". I want a set with some dinosaurs. Mad

Ice Age is not good enough for that.

well, since players are planeswalkers, then have planeswalker cards be like extra players helping out or something.
    like say

Super awesome monkey guy - GGGGGG
    planeswalker
GG: Put a 1/1 Ape token into play
GGG: All Ape tokens get +1/+1
    GGGG: Untap all Ape tokens
    Life: 10

then have it so either 1. damage dealt by unblocked creatures can hit any planeswalker instead. or 2. whenever a player takes damage, planeswalkers take an equal amount of damage. both take care of the issue with there not being any "planeswalker removal" since every creature can do the job. can make em targetable by burns spells to. say any burn that could target a "player".

edit: You could have these guys capable of blocking, just to soak up damage. Also, damage on planeswalkers would be permanent.
