Legend posted a message on Random Design MusingsI couldn't help but notice that this forum has been unusually slow this season. Could it be because of the current taste of Standard/Limited (not to mention meta)?Posted in: Custom Card Creation
I really wish WotC would tone down the fantasy a bit - actually, a lot. This last year, I find myself picking through spoilers, looking for "traditionally" flavored cards, rather than taking in the whole set. I haven't played Standard since week two of SoI and probably won't play again until Kaladesh, not because of the meta, but because of the flavor. Will Magic ever return to the classic Western / European / "Tolkien" fantasy genre? I sure hope so. Or is its whole future dependent on exploring other genres? The overall flavor of Standard is currently SO far out there that it's like a bad cartoon. I've been casually involved with fantasy gaming and its peripherals for over twenty years, yet I can't relate to the current state of Magic. Not because I don't get it (I do get it), but because I simply no longer want to relate to it because 9 months of cartoony horror genre is making me absolutely sick. My psyche is rejecting it. How could it possibly be effective at reaching new/young players (who aren't already deeply initiated into and attracted to high, HIGH levels of horror fantasy)? I'll also add that we're seeing the greatest saturation of *****ty, so-called "art" in the history of Magic.
I find it all extremely uninspiring as an amateur designer and am looking forward to brighter days for Magic. Though I think, as a player, my interest in our beloved game may have dwindled to the point of no return, and that this may even be my last year of playing, if not designing. Magic nowadays has a lot of momentum and hype selling it rather than actual attractive qualities. -

dustmop posted a message on Morph for Non-Permanents?Same cost for both casting facedown and turning up?Posted in: Custom Card Creation
You'll need to make it a rule that you tell your opponent exactly how much you spent, so they can later check you're not cheating. However, saying "I pay 1UU to cast this facedown" gives a ton of information about what the card is, which removes most of the element of surprise. Morph solved this by having everything cost 3 to cast facedown. -

willows posted a message on Tariff # (Mechanic)This is undevelopable because it completely contravenes the pacing of the mana mechanic. You can cast Extaron Expenditures on turn 3 and set every opponent back three lands. That's ridiculous.Posted in: Custom Card Creation - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Sorry for the late introduction, they calls me Lou.
To be honest with everyone, I haven't played much since Planeswalkers were introduced.
I've been trying to catch up on what's going on. Been a fan since Invasion-Apocalypse block.
I've been working on building a custom block of my own,
inspired by the changes I've seen in the Magic World over the years.
That said, I'll most likely spend most of my time in the Creativity Forums.
If anyone has any tips on the site, feel free to share them & introduce yourselves!
All help's appreciated! -Thank you, t'slou! WUBRG
