    So Dragon+ has an interview with James Wyatt with more info (I'm just summarizing/focusing on what I'm interested);
    https://dnd.dragonmag.com/2020/02/20/in-the-works-mythic-odysseys-of-theros/content.html

-There will be map, some focused on the gods with a temple of Atheros that is split into two parts by the river with one half being on the mortal shore and the other side in the underworld.

-Forge and Grave domains cleric subclasses are being featured as well for cleric of Purphrose, Erebos and Atheros.

-A devotion mechanic that rewards/restricts you for following a god.

    -The supernatural gifts are
“Everyone gets this extra leg up that is a gift of the gods, which is separate from the usual character background. It may be a magical thing about your nature, such as you have the mind of a sphinx and your thoughts can’t be read. Or you might be an oracle, which is an opportunity for your Dungeon Master to give you plenty of adventure hooks. It’s a straight power-up but not a huge power-up,” Wyatt reveals.

-The featured races are humans, minotaurs (which will be re-printed from Ravnica), Centaurs (ravnica reprint), merfolk (triton reprint from Volo’s Guide) and the new races of leonin and satyrs. Shame no gorgon/medusa imo.

-Leonin seems to be more strength based as guessed and satyrs are good with dexterity and charisma and are great bards.

-Mythic monsters are comparable to boss fights. Arasta of the Endless Web will show up as one.

    -Lots of new art.

Eldraine would actually be like a 1000x better. Or even a Homelands one.

If they had gone ARTHURIAN LEGENDS/fairy tales instead of arthurian legends/FAIRY TALES, I would agree with you. As is, meh. Eldraine was a big miss for me personally. I was HYPED about an Arthurian set and what I got was basically Shrek. Very disappointed, honestly. At least Oko was cool. Shocked

They talked about how with Eldraine the structure of the world building was mostly based on the Arthurian side with courts, knights, quest ect with the fairy tale elements being sprinkled in as the things the knight fought against (the novel was similar with it feeling). Reversed happened with the card set in part with the fairy tale elements being more of the focus due to having more top down ideas than the Arthur side (as well as the arthur stuff being used in general fantasy anyways). So a DnD eldraine book might still work for you since a campaign setting would let you focus more on the arthur stuff.

The Theros mechanics seem super cool! Love the idea of incorporating devotion!

I think Ravnica might have been a better home for a Gorgon race than Theros (where gorgons feel more like villains/monsters than heroes).

Excited to have a new feline race that are markedly different than Tabaxi! Satyrs sound fun!

Mythic monsters sound juicy. Eager to see how they pull that off!

As for Eldraine, I would have LOVED the set if it focused more on Arthurian stuff. I was so hyped for it when it was announced and then totally displeased once the cards came out. I feel like there is an amazing setting in Eldraine, we just never got to see it because the set was littered with Shrek-style fairy tale cards that, to me, felt like annoying popup ads on a website I otherwise like. Sick

I hope they do a real Eldraine setting book, or even a planeshift PDF. Kekeke

Wizards of the coast is greedy because they dont release a secret lair with liliana of the veil. She is the poster girl of magic. So I wont believe the feminist trend. They dont want more women in the game they want more money.

Wait, wouldn't more women playing (therefore more players buying product) bring them more money? What even is this argument, I don't understand at all?

Because at the end of the day they always choose subpar cards for these "inclusive" products. Take this for example, wizards could easily have choose Liliana of the veil for a secret lair. She is the better value out of the box for multiple reasons
    -The card is more expensive
-The character is more important. liliana appears prominently in the youtube ad
-She represent a powerful and independent woman both in the lore and the card (Liliana of the veil)
-She is not in the reserved list
Make my words they will never release a liliana of the veil secret lair

I think we will get boxes with individual fetch lands before Liliana of the Veil.

That said I don't expect it in Jump Start.

I think the Commander Draft set is way more likely but it is the card could be in Jumpstart. If we are going to be technical, the card COULD be in M21 or Ikoria as well, given that how enchantment heavy Theros Beyond Death was but... That seems less likely than the aforementioned supplemental sets.

This is clearly either going to be in Jump Start or the Commander Draft set.

I don't think it will be in Jump start as it's depicted being tribal themes and build 1 deck with 2 boosters.

Oubliette is not in a tribal theme and the card is way too complicated for building a deck with it with 2 boosters ...

As WotC said in their article, some themes are tribal (cats, pirates, eldrazi) but some themes are not tribal but more thematically linked (Garruk, Doctor, Phyrexian, etc.).

Still utterly fails to explain why it wasn't in Modern Horizons like tons of people were asking for but ok.

A better question would be to ask why anybody though Modern Horizons would be such a natural fit for it in the first place. The damn thing is near unprintable. For one, it's a relic. Not only does it predate the modern color pie, getting an effect normally reserved for white, it does so with a massive wall of text. The 2-part Oblivion Ring template has been dead for years, so there's no way something with it was going to end up in a product that was supposed to represent the future. All of that text exists to serve a weird aura/counter preservation mechanic that, respectively, results in a wall of text or has been written much more elegantly the few times it has appeared since Oubliette's printing. All told, the sheer number of reasons to not reprint it is damning. It would probably just be forgotten if it wasn't printed at common.

Folks should be happy that Wizards is thinking at all about how to reprint the unreprintable, not get mad about not jamming cards where they obviously don't belong.

WotC did not want it in Modern.

Since the booster packs for this product are only going to contain 1 basic land each, why not just go the Duel Masters / Kaijudo route and allow mono colored cards to be treated as basic lands but played upside down? If you have multi colored cards why not treat them like ABU duals without the drawback from Shocklands?

It is not 1 basic land. It is one new/cool basic land. MaRo has stated that each pack has enough land in it to make the deck viable. So likely half of each pack are just going to be lands.

At 40 bucks, only one of them is cheaper than simply buying the existing cards. I think this product would have been a huge hit at 30 bucks a pop.

There's a lot of things WOTC is doing that I'm not happy about, but selling singles when they could be selling more gambling boosters is perhaps a step in the right direction for the physical game. The secrecy around the cards is a predatory tactic, however, giving consumers the least amount of time to make a decision. You can just hear the people in the WOTC offices saying "FOMO" repeatedly in their board meetings.

If you offer people unlimited time to purchase a premium product, they are less likely to actually purchase the item because they will put off actually spending the money indefinitely.

If you put a time limit on the sale of the premium item, sales spike because people are forced to "buy now or never have the chance to buy it again". Loads of companies use this marketing gimmick. Funko sells con-exclusive Pops. Games Workshop makes limited edition versions of their newest rule books. Forge World (and GW) come out with sales of out of production models that will be made to order but only available for purchase over the course of a single weekend.

Playing cards are not the same as TCG cards. You do not buy 15 card booster packs of playing cards with some of the cards artificially made more scarce by rarity.

It sounds like you do not liek Secret Lairs or Booster Packs. If true, I highly suggest other games, like the new Legend of the Five Rings card game.

The amount of flack that MaRo is receiving for this product and the lands on Twitter is really surprising.

I think he mean "on any product" cause full art lands were a big factor on the huge sales from Unglued, Unhinged, Zendikar(original) and Worldwake, Battle for Zendikar and Oath, etc (from a casual stand point(people that buy 10 boosters each set, more or less)) Now, since Battle for zendikar we had them in Amonkhet and hour, Unstable, the judge ones and other promos, Snow fullart, Nyx fullart. Maybe he is in a fatigue for fullart lands.

Fullart lands are always welcome but ye they are really pushing theirs sales with fullart lands now (Theros collector's boosters and normal boosters, this, etc )

Also, just for people to be aware: Every pack with the 5 30 cards decks comes with 5 fullart foil (1 for each basic land) and 5 non foil fullart (1 for each type) the lands inside the decks looks to be normal lands.

For a normal set sure but who thought they wouldn't do full art lands for this? Unsets are where the idea first came from.

The only legal cards (in sanctioned formats) are the lands (and one of the whys casuals bought it in the first place). As a casual it is the seccond product with fullart lands he is getting this year. (assuming he is a casual)

Un sets are fun and all, but it's a pet project for Wizards that gets people to buy in with fancy lands. When you have a just released set with fancy lands and now this back to back, it's too much.

Just like everything else Wizards did in the last year and continues to do... People thought the lottery cards were bad. That was mild compared to all of this other stuff.
invention/expedition/whatever-those-were-called lottery was not inherently bad. if you treated those as a nice bonus to what you get in pack it was actually good. they were problematic when you take into account that people can have gambling problems. the fact that this is preconstructed product that contains limited number of those lands speaks a lot of how confident wotc is with the product. by which i mean not at all and feel the need to boost sales by making parts of it artificially scarce.

full art lands are always welcome but they lost all novelty for me. including this we have four products with full art lands in 12 months span. it's just not interesting anymore.

    /edit
i have just noticed holostamp on those. why do they have it?

Which 12 month span had 4 full art land releases?

We have only had so many full art lands:

    February 2020 - Unsanctioned
January 2020 - Theros Beyond Death
June 2019 - Modern Horizons (although technically these are Snow-covered full arts)
    December 2017 - Unstable
July 2017 - Hour of Devastation
    April 2017 - Amonkhet
Jan 2016 - Oath of the Gatewatch

Also, I am not really sure full art lands are boring. Each one of the above sets had wildly different art, composition and theme. It is not like we were given a bunch of generic looking islands.

The Amonket full art lands showed the plane at Bolas' height of power, while the Hours ones featured the same scene but at sunset with the destroyed/crumbling architecture.

The unstable lands had no borders.

Theros Nyx lands do not feature terrain at all.

Unsanctioned lands have a unique frame.

    Modern Horizons has snow-covered lands.

If anything, the only "generic" ones are the Battle for Zendikar ones (and even they still have Hedrons and floating rocks and junk).

This lack of MSRP is really annoying. I want to know how much the set is to save up money but can't find a price.

As for the cards, there's definitely some fun stuff that will have to go in my Un-Cube. Don't need the reprints, but several of the new cards are slam dunks. And did I see Giant Teddy Bear tokens for Water Gun Balloon Game? I was planning to make custom ones but might not need to now.

    Looks like 50.
