I was probably being more glib about it than I should have been. I'm not complaining about their loyalty to each other in the movie so much as I am about the following: Of course Hud is going with them; he's our POV. Without him, or some logical reason for handing the camera off to someone else, there is no movie for us to see.
I also realize that he needs some sort of internal conflict where he asks himself if he's really going to do this. However, to me, it seemed more like having an attractive girl in a horror movie continuously decide whether she's going into the abandoned mine or not. Either explain to me with great reasoning why she's going to get herself killed, or just make her go in there. Don't try doing something inbetween the two.

Jan 22, 2008Roger Watersmelon posted a message on CloverfieldI pretty much agree with everything you've said here. Among my issues, I was so tired of hearing Hud go against all reason and continue with the party.Posted in: Alacar's Design Zone
Every time he'd say "I'm going" I just wanted to scream "Of course you are! You're the camera man!. If you don't go, we won't see it!"
Then again, I was nauseous for the last 2/3 of the movie. I don't know how much that explains my irritation.
I've been talking with some friends lately, and think it would be great to do something similar to Cloverfield, but when the main character leaves have the rest of the group leave him to get himself killed and then end in a coffee shop with everyone going, "Man, what kind of crazy (stuff) do you think he did while he was in there?" But I don't feel like I want to be part of the glut of amateur "hand-camera" movies that will come out of this terrible film. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
Hello, and welcome to Zombo Combo.
THIS IS Zombo Combo.
WELCOME . . . and hello.
As for the deck idea, I really think it needs to see something printed along the lines of Buried Alive in which it can basically dump the cards you need the turn before playing Rooftop Storm. If you're looking for cards to stall and survive, if you can squeeze white in there I think you'd have a better chance of stalling during the early game with things like Doomed Traveller, Timely Reinforcements, and Day of Judgment.
I think this post is getting overlooked, as it explains many of the issues people are having with color-bleed in this set.
Blue zombies? Ignoring cards like Drowned, what makes the zombies in this set blue rather than black is the way in which they are made. The blue zombies are being made by mad scientists studying the human body, rather than by dark forces demanding that they rise from their grave once more. Think Frankenstein's monster compared to Evil Ash (yes I realize Frankenstein's monster is black, but it would be blue if it were printed in this set).
Besides, if anyone would be allowed to mess around with color identity I would think that it would be Richard Garfield.
I guess that's what happens when you have 100 different hardware configurations for a console system
I wanted to give an update on my experiences with the 5th Anniversary edition of Oblivion. Amazon had a used one in its warehouse deals section for $21.99. It was opened, but was in great shape and had everything included. I took the game disc, rebate, and the manual to Best Buy and traded it in for $19.60 (after a 40% bonus for preordering Skyrim with them). So I paid $2.39 for the Steelbook, the plastic slip case, the map, and the Making Of Oblivion blu-ray.
My old White Label discs love their new home
My point was that the DS (which was such a success for Nintendo that it was known for a long time as a machine that printed money) is held in such high regard as a handheld, and is usually the first thing people point to when saying that there's no quality games for the 3DS. Well, I've attached that list of games I mentioned before from the first year of the DS, so that it'll be easier to see what I was talking about.
When I looked at it, I was surprised at what I found. As I mentioned, I only own 11 of those 142 games. It made me question the perceived "high quality" of DS titles available during the first year of production. My list only represents 7% of the games released, and although there are some higher profile games that I don't own, you could also easily drop probably 4-5 games off of my earlier list for being lower quality games as well.
That being said, the 3DS has still obviously had a pretty poor launch. When the president of a company comes out and apologizes to you for it, that's a pretty good inidicator that they made some mistakes. I just think that if we actually looked into it further, we'd probably find that a number of consoles were not as great at launch as we'd like to remember them. It's just that we're more aware of it now because, after all, we're all 6 years older than we were when the DS was new. (We're also 20 years older than we were when the SNES was new, but I'd like to not think about that)
I also took a closer look at those DS games and found that out of those 142 titles, I own 11.
Advance Wars
Brain Age
Castlevania: DS
Feel the Magic XY/XX
Mario Kart DS
Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attourney
Puyo Pop Fever
The Rub Rabbits
Trace Memory
Trauma Center: Under the Knife
Just how many games does a person need in order to be satisfied with a video game system?
I thought back to being a kid and absolutely loving my SNES. 16Bits? That's twice the number on my NES, how amazing is this thing? I'd play it constantly, and was genuinely happy that I owned one. When I looked back over my collection though, I realized that I only owned maybe 6-7 SNES games as a kid. I certainly played more games than that (Captain Video, how I miss your sweet innocence), and have since bought several more games as an adult, but at the time I only owned 6 games.
I already own 3 for the 3DS and will be adding Cave Story, SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked, and Starfox before Christmas.
I keep hearing this over and over again, and I never understand it. New Vegas has always been far more stable for me than Fallout 3 ever was; from launch all the way through the DLC content for each game. I always thought that it was an X-box specific issue with NV and that their version was finally "as bad" as the PS3's (FO3 was far worse on PS3 than on Xbx) but now that I see this I'm not sure what to think.
Maybe it's the hardware on the 60GB PS3, or maybe I'm just lucky.
Also:
Since no one else has mentioned it, I'd like to say that it's a shame that the collector's edition re-release for Oblivion was such a bust. A $10 rebate for buying Skyrim AND the Strategy Guide is absolutely NOT "$10 off the purchase of Skyrim." Furthermore, the requirement that you remove the UPC from Skyrim, The Strategy Guide, AND the collector's edition (!) of Oblivion seems ridiculous to me. I'm not butchering a collector's edition, book, and a brand new game just to save $10.
Not to mention that there have been zero new Elder Scrolls games releasesd since Fallout 3.
Fair enough. I thought the side story was cute enough to be a good diversion. And although, like you said, you could tell right away how the story was going to end,
With the way that things have been going so far, I'm afraid to even mention this. However, it looks like the PSN store is scheduled to come back online next Tuesday. More importantly though, they announced that they will be updating the store twice per week (Tues/Fri) for the next two weeks in order to make up for the release dates that were missed due to the outage.

I was not expecting digital copies of full retail release games, even if they are Greatest Hits titles now. The only one off the PS3 list I own is LBP, so I'm not entirely sure which games I want to get. I've heard good things about most of them.
Something else that I didn't think about at all prior to this announcement is that this applies to PSP owners too. Picking games from that list is going to be even harder for me, because I already own LBP (yes you guys get it, I own LBP ;)) and Modnation Racers on the PS3 but not on the PSP.
Then again, the $15 "loss" on Castle Crashers might be too high.
This advice goes to anyone that hasn't checked out the details of PSN+ before. Don't get sucked in by whatever free games they are currently offering, as you will not be able to keep them after your 30 free days are up. You can only play the free games as long as you're a PSN+ subscriber.
However this doesn't apply to any of the items that are available to PSN+ users that are discounted, but not free (ie $2.99 instead of $4.99). Any discounted game/item will still be available to you after your subscription expires.
I know that I'll be taking advantage of that month to buy out their Japanese PS1 game section, and then let the subscription expire.
